  1. Hi Everyone, I’ve read some of the posts on here and I’d be interested in getting a bass boat in the next few years. Starting to gather info about it now so that I’m ready by the time I decide to pull the trigger. I’m not looking for somethings super fancy with all the bells and whistles. Just something to get me started on the water by myself with the basics and that I can customize with electronics down the road. Would like to stick with the boat for a while so quality and durability matter. Here’s some other info that might help with suggestions: - I tournament fish as a co-angler a good amount throughout the year mainly in WI and IL lakes/rivers. - Would be nice to be able to use my boat in tournaments eventually once I build up enough experience fishing as a co-angler - Bodies of water I fish are anywhere around 2,000 to 10,000 acres. Size is relative but I’d say they’re smaller to medium-sized natural lakes. Not like I’m fishing the great lakes but would be nice if it could handle the crazy pleasure boater wakes since it’s tight quarters at times. - Need to fit myself and another person comfortably while we’re fishing. - Nothing super big but preferably not tiny either. I have a small SUV that I’m sticking with for a while so would probably need to get a hitch installed. Let me know if there’s any other info that might help give suggestions. Again, I’m not in a hurry to get a boat. Just seeing my options for the near future! Appreciate any advice! Umair
  2. How much am I looking at to have a dealer install a fishfinder that is not flushed just to run the wires and mount the transducer?
  3. Hey guys, new to the site but I had a question for all of you long time boaters. What are your thoughts on Crestliner as a brand and specifically the Storm series? I’d like to upgrade the 45 lb thrust motor to a 65 lb and I’m thinking I want a 50 hp motor. I live in Ohio and plan to fish mainly inland lakes but I would like to ocassionally take it out on some of the bay areas of Erie.
  4. Which one shines above the rest you use to own and why you pick that boat over this boat
  5. This is your normal Chevy vs Dodge vs Ford. I'm looking for someone who owned multiple different bass boats and will say what they liked and what they didn't like about it. Not looking for the "yep i owned 5 tritons and loved them all".
  6. Is there anywhere in NY where I can rent a bass boat for lets say 2 weeks and take it wherever I want and then bring it back to the same place when I am done? We are going on a large trip in August and buddy's boat is out of commission until September and we need a boat. Also do Bass Pro or Cabelas rent out boats as well? Thanks to whoever answers.
  7. I have been looking for a used boat for months in the Midwest. I have been on craigslist, FB marketplace, ebay, dealer websites and everything else I can think of on nearly a daily basis. I cannot seem to find a boat within my price range that does not get sold in a day or is less than 500+ miles away. Does anyone know of any other ways of finding for sale by owner boats for sale? What I am looking for, should be the standard bass boat that is for sale but has been a huge process to get one located. (Fiberglass, 150 HP, 18-20 ft, 2000 and newer and under 20K). I need to get one purchased asap. Any info would be much appreciated.
  8. I have a 1986 ranger 375v love the boat mostly everything still works! But I can’t remember since I’ve had the boat if I ever tested the kill switch lanyard and today while out on the water I pulled it to test it and the motor did not cut off. What could be the cause and where should I start?
  9. Hi BR, Saturday I picked up my new Ranger Z520L from Cabela’s. Here is a VLOG of the experience. Thank you for watching...JN https://youtu.be/4YisL4VsOxw
  10. I recently installed some new electronics on my Triton 189 TRX and all are wired to my cranking battery. I have Helix 7 (.9 amps), x 2 Helix 10 (2.4 amp each), Garmin Echo Map Ultra 126 (3.3 amp) and Livescope System (1.75 amp). I also have a one 10 foot power pole, and the typical other systems that require electricity such as live well, lights, and pumps. Obviously, my current battery (Interstate Marine Cranking 27M-XHD) isn't cutting it and drains pretty fast. I can't get a full day of fishing out of it. What should I do? Is there a large battery that I could go with to meet my needs? Do I need a second battery to only run the electronics? Do I get a second battery and a switch where I could go between the two if one dies? Thanks in advance for the input.
  11. Looking into a 16’-17’ aluminum bass boat... any thoughts? I’ve looked into almost all the manufacturers. Just looking for some opinions. I personally like the Xpress, but I’m also a fan of the Triton and love the value of the Tracker. Any insight would be appreciated.
  12. Hi, I have a 2006 welded aluminum Duracraft stick steer bass boat, with a 2006 Mercury 40hp motor that was passed down to me from my grandfather. Is it possible to convert the stick steer shift to a tiller handle steering or a console steer?
  13. Hello all, I fish for VT and have a boat down here, however I'm looking for somewhere to store my boat in the winter so it'll be out of the elements and ready to go for the intercollegiate tournaments in the spring. Looking to store from mid December- beginning of March. I am willing to pay if its nothing crazy but I am combination of the two poorest types of people, a college student and fisherman. Thank you! Please let me know, much appreciated.
  14. I have a family friend who has a 1990 pro craft pro caster 180 with a Johnson 150 GT v6 for sale $2000. This will be my first bass boat and I've read my forums about what to look for when buying but I can't really find anything particular on this model boat. Any help would be appreciated on what to look for and is that a good deal. I don't know the hours on motor and if I had to guess it probably hadn't been ran in over a year. Thanks for any help,
  15. Here is my problem, I do local/club bass tournaments. I started doing this about three years ago. I do not want to quit. I love the competition, it pushes me to do better; However, I have always had a fondness for intracoastal fishing, and want to get back into it. I want a boat that can do it all. Rather than have multiple boats, or spending too much on one boat. The intracoastal bass boats from Skeeter, Ranger, and Triton are more than I can afford new, however I refuse to buy another used boat again! I am looking for something around 30k base price, and at least 18ft (I know that is asking a lot, lol). Anyone have any suggestions on what would be the best way to go? Keep in mind it has to meet tournament regulations for bass fishing. Is there anything out there that fits my needs, or do I just need to pick one and go with it?
  16. I just recently purchased a 17' ProCraft 170 Combo Fish and Ski with a 90 HP Mercury Tracker Pro and had some questions for equipment advise and if anyone knows where to find the dang ladders for this boat. The receivers for the (from the pictures I've seen) stock ladder set up are at an angle toward the rear of the boat and I haven't been able to find any boating ladders at all that fit these receivers. I had a friend of mine recommend a collapsible rope ladder, and I found a few that look promising, but figured I'd ask around before I spent the $35. I've also noticed buttons for seat pads in front of the windows on the front casting deck, but have been unable to find any online or at my local shops that have bottom buttons like that for easy removal. I've just been using my throwable PFD for a booty pad for my lady, but would like to have the real thing. Last, but certainly not least, I have one of the base model Hummingbird fish finders that came with the boat, but would like to get a nicer one. The fish finder setup is located in front of the window, and is an SOB to see when the sun is in front of you. I guess I'll need to take the window off and move the receiver up on the console to make it easier to see. The Garmin Striker 4 was recommended to me by a friend, and it seems like a solid little rig, but I wanted to hear from someone who has some time with actual machine. ?
  17. So I'm on the hunt for a 18'-21' fiberglass bass boat newer than 2002 for 10k-15k, any suggestions on what boats, where to look, and what brands to look into to? thank you~ Jacob
  18. My husband & I are heading to lake erie (Presque isle) & we were wondering if any has taken their own bass boat there ? & if so, where is the best place to launch & fish for bass?
  19. Good Day to everyone, I am new to these forums and look forward to a lot of great discussion. In the next week or so I will get my profile completed! Anyway, I was googling information about transducer mounting location and came across this website. I just bought a 1990 Champion 201 DCR bass boat with a 200hp mercury optimax outboard, I upgraded to a Raymarine fish finder and from what I understand, in order to properly use down/side imaging you shouldn't use a thru-hull transducer. It would be awesome to have everything work at speed but would at least like the depth to show without cutting out. Speed will come through GPS and the imaging isn't important at high speed really.... I will get pics up later of the back of my boat, it is stepped as most bass boats are. Just wanting it to read reliably at speed, any info helps as I am a rookie when it comes to bass boats!
  20. I have Purchased a Tracker Pro 170 and want to Install a Recessed Foot Pedal Tray on the front deck... Has anyone put a tray on a Tracker Pro 170? After contacting the Factory for details on the "Ribs and Supports" under the Deck, all I get is that they would not give advice except that it could Void the warranty... I could use info from anybody before I begin any Cutting through the Deck...Thank you, I appreciate any help that I can get.
  21. Hello I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander V6 3.3 that had a towing capacity of 3500 lbs. Would I be able to tow with it? I'm looking to get an aluminum bass tracker because they're light but i'd prefer a fiberglass...any reccomendations for a light rig? thanks
  22. Hey everyone, new member checking in. I just recently discovered Bass Resource and am loving it so far. I love the wealth of information available here for a noob like me. As a little introduction on me, I live in Oregon and have always done the normal PNW stuff... fly fisherman/steelhead/salmon/kokes, etc. Last spring/summer I got into bass fishing after talking to one of my coworkers who was a tourney angler back home in New York. So far I have only really done any pond/small lake fishing from the bank and my kayak. I want to start doing some bigger water fishing, and do a lot more than fish the same 3 places this year. So my question naturally is about the boat that I already have available to me. My dad (and by extension, me, since he lets me use it) has a 20' Thunder Jet jet boat/sled. Just like this one, only white: http://www.boats.com/power-boats/2001-thunder-jet-20-sportsman-5650969/#.WLXbXIsQxcQ. He gave me the go ahead to mount an electric trolling motor to it. But I'm wondering if there even is a way to mount a bow trolling motor to it. Based on the Minn Kota weight/length vs thrust rating chart, I'm guessing I would need a minimum of 70#, but a 100 ought to allow me to use it in the river as well. I found a 101# Maxxum Pro on craigslist for like 500 bucks, which seemed reasonable to me (or am I way off base?). I am also thinking that a long shaft would be best for this kind of boat? My concern is around attaching the mount.. There is not a whole lot of real estate available on the front. Because of the low deck in the bow, plus the gunwales having the rail running down them I am not sure if there is enough room to drill and bolt down the mount. So I defer to you guys, who are much more knowledgeable about this stuff! I was thinking mount it off to the left of the anchor cleat, and have the shaft run up along the rail, but I'm not sure if that would work. What do you guys think? Waste of time? Ruining the resale of our boat? Even possible? Thank you all in advance! Ryan
  23. Hello all, I recently purchased this 1999 Sprint 207 DC. I was and am aware of 0 compression in cylinder #2. I am looking for direction in having this Merc 225 rebuilt, or a remanufactured powerhead. I am located near Dayton, Ohio, and am looking for a well known and respected dealer or mechanic that stand behind their work! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you ladies and gentleman!
  24. I am looking into getting a new boat. I'm thinking between 18-20 feet. I mainly fish inland lakes and larger rivers but may go out onto Lake Erie once in a while. My budget is around 20k, any recommendations. Ive been looking into the ranger rt188, Lund 1750 rebel xs, and used glass boats.
  25. Hi I just bought my first fishing boat it is an old boat 1995. It has a metal livewell and I was looking to seal a leak somewhere inside it that I can't find. Was wondering what type of sealants I could use inside of it. Thanks
