  1. While many of us banglers spend the summer wishing we had a fancy boat to go out and search for schooling fish with some fancy side imaging, many of us miss out on some great opportunities to be had from the shore for some truly giant bass. Entailed is a step by step analysis of how to get more bites this summer fishing pressured public water that you can do owning one combo and 15$ in baits. you will need 1 fishing rod capable of throwing atleast a 1/2 oz jig ( you don’t have to use a trailer but it does up your chances of a catch while your mapping the bottom) 2 a 1/2 - 3/4 oz football jig maybe even 1 oz if you believe the water to be over 30 Ft deep 3 4/0 worm hooks and 1/4-3/8 oz bullet weights 4 a pack of your favorite plastics mine are midsize brush hogs / curly tail worms/ or rage bugs / rage craws / the original trick worm or squirrel tail worm pro tip if you have a dock or pier to fish off of make a couple cast under or around it. It stinks to see a 5 lber swim out from under a dock you walked on 1. grab a 1/2-3/4 oz football jig and slowly drag it along the bottom casting as far as you can. Eventually you will feel some cover in the deeper water make a mental note of about where you notice the most cover these will be your high percentage areas 2. Rig a non pegged Texas rig and pick a plastic I normally start with a creature style bait or curly tail worm 3 drag your Texas rig extremely slowly through your high percentage areas if you think your going slow slow down don’t be afraid to stroke or hop your plastics in the high percentage areas but be sure to pause after 4 if nothing bites your creature bait a shakeyheads squirrel or trick worm can work well for finicky fish 5 catch some monsters my pb of 9lbs 9 oz came off of this exact technique on a full size brush hog with a slightly smaller 9lb 1 oz as well on a public lake this technique can be deadly around points witch most boat launches atleast on my lake are situated near but in the heat of the summer when the fish move deep during the day this can be an Awesome way to catch fish at cookouts and Picnics I hope this helps some of you bankers this summer hook into some giant fish it is really helpful when you go somewhere you have never fished before and can teach you some new techniques besides a wacky senko. This even offers the opportunity of lucking into a school and catching a monsterous amount of fish.
  2. I'm new to bass resource! The most recent post about bass fishing in the area of south Atlanta was in 2012 when I searched. I was curious if there were any members that have any news on local ponds, lakes and even rivers. I live in the Fayetteville and Fairburn area and do a good bit of fishing. Been fishing all my life but have just taken up bass fishing this past year and am enjoying it! Thank you all for all your post and a huge shoutout to Glenn because his videos have helped me out the most in my transition to bass fishing. If anyone wants to fish ponds or lakes in and around south Atlanta, definitely let me know I would love to trade stories and locations with members, I've fished from Lake Peachtree, Kedron, Horton, McIntosh in Fayette County to Sweetwater creek, Glen Emerald and Piedmont park in Atlanta to some hidden lakes in South Fulton and Clayton. Anyone know of a couple of ponds in Fayette County? I bank fish 2-3 days a week and fish on a boat maybe 3 times a month
  3. https://imgur.com/gallery/QEa3kjd Taking a look at my terminal tackle box for this year. Realized that I was carrying way too much. So this year I decided to do some diy and follow a path of Mr. Adam Savage and his concept of “first order or retrievability” ie. The things I need are put where I can get them without having to open or move other things. Decided to go with Eva foam to hold the hooks firmly so they don’t move and provide neat organization. Also went much smaller as I found I only use a few hooks per trip so carrying a 20 of the same hook was pointless (hehe) and just extra weight. Always keep a bigger box with spares in the car in case. Have you guys used split foam boxes (Gammy split foam box) in the past? What do you think?
  4. Hello I am new here and I haven't really seen much on bank fishing in Hampton Roads. I have used Google Earth and so far most of the spots I have found either had no trespassing signs or the fishing didn't look as prime as I thought from Google Earth. I currently fish Lone Star Lakes in Suffolk and have had reasonable success. I catch 1-2 almost every time I go. But I am looking for more spots. Also are there any good night time fishing spots in the area for freshwater. Thanks.
  5. I fish from the bank exclusively and use 2 rods. One is a 6 foot spinning rod and one is a 7 foot baitcaster. The 7 footer I find is too long for me to do a lot of pitching and flipping with. I just can't seem to get it down because it feels too long. I can do a lot with the 6 foot spinning rod. Should I downsize my baitcaster to a 6 foot rod?
  6. I've got a question I did not see answered in the articles section. I'm fishing from the bank on ponds and lakes where there is a lot of vegetation and was wondering would it be better to use a Texas rig or put the worm on a shaky head? Second question, is there a reason why I should not use a large worm like the Zoom Ol' Monster? Thanks
  7. Another question for you guys. Thank you by the way for putting up with all my questions,I'm learning a little great deal. So, you are bank fishing, you arrive at your lake/pond, what is the first thing you throw? Now I know that there are a lot of variables like time of day, weather conditions, seeing any noticeable structure, etc. So in general what is your preferred 1st application?
  8. When I first started bass fishing, I was strictly a bank fisherman.First thing I bought was a large 5 tray tackle box, which I carried along with me.I still do some bank fishing but years ago I realized I was tackle bound. I now carry a small 2 tray box and 2 rods. Im thinking about downsizing even more because I usually use the same 2 or 3 baits depending on the season or time of day. Its surprising what you can pack in a small box, and it frees you up with less to haul around. How do you guys transport your tackle when you bankwalkin?
  9. anyone bank fishing Lake Bastrop? if so any great spots?
  10. I'm going fishing in the morning with my girlfriend. I was wondering if anyone in or has fished in the Rapides Parish area of Louisiana, what are some good lakes around to bank fish for bass? On my profile I listed Rodemacher Lake (Cleco Lake) as my favorite only because I caught my most recent bass there. Any advice on the best techniques to use from the bank would be greatly appreciated as well.
  11. I have just recently started using Google Earth to locate fishing spots. ( I am a bank fisherman ) For those that do use it, what are some tips or suggestions you think I should be doing while using Google Earth? So far the only thing I do is use the previous dated pictures to see the waters when it was extremely low and find under water structure. I then pin these areas and then head out and try the spots out. I don't really know if there is anything else I can do with the application.
  12. Hello all! I'm new here, but have been fishing all of my life. I know the basics of fishing, but never really got into Bass fishing until recently. My husband and I watch YouTube videos, read articles, and talk to friends trying to gain every bit of knowledge we can. We have three young boys who we take fishing and we fish religiously. The problem is that we don't catch much. We catch 2-3 lb. Bass regularly, but nothing much bigger than that. I'm in the military and we have access to the base which has 11 ponds and 6 lakes... we've tried almost all of them. We watch 4-5 lb. Bass swim right at the docks and they will not hit anything we throw in. We only bank fish just because we do not have a boat (it will happen in due time). We use green pumpkin senkos, chatter baits, and jigs mostly. I know this is a LONG read, but we are looking for any advice we can get. My Dad took me fishing growing up and those were the best memories... I want to pass these skills along to our boys. Thank you in advance for any help you may have. God Bless.
  13. Hey everyone, just wanted to say hi to the forum. I just got back into fishing after a roughly 7 year hiatus for college, postgrad life. Before that my family was avid anglers here in the west metro of MN. Now out on my own I've picked up a couple new rod and reel combos and am ready to get back into bass fishing again, this time from the bank. Tight lines and big hauls everyone.
  14. Hi everyone, I'm new to BassResource! I live in the Euless area and am wondering if the main pond in the newer Centreport community between the apartments (off of 360/Trinity Blvd) is worth fishing. I've driven past it countless times and it looks straight up FISHY. Have any of y'all wet a line there?
  15. Hey all! Help me out if you can. How do you land a big Bass from a steep bank or overhang, other than pulling her in by the hook? (Risk lossing and/or harming the fish too high). Is pole netting the only option? I'm thinking of making a dropper net on a rope for the long landings, maybe a bucket with the bottom cut off and net attached. Anyone dealt with this issue? thank!
  16. I am road tripping from Las Vegas to Michigan in a couple weeks and I'm looking for some good bass spots along I-70 to fish at dusk before I turn in each night. Any help would be awesome...they need to be close to 70. Thanks.
  17. I fish a lot of the drainage canals down here in New Orleans, and I've found 2 in particular that have produced very well for me. Both are much deeper than the others and have sloped concrete embankments leading down to rip rap banks. The rip rap is stacked about a foot out of the water, sloping down into about 2-3ft of water, then it drops off to around 6-7ft and gradually gets deeper towards the middle which is about 9-10ft. I like to fish any bridges that cross the canal, and have had great success fishing lipless cranks close to the pilings as well as just walking the bank and casting parallel. Most of the fish I've caught lately have been sitting in the 2-3ft of water very near the drop off as you would expect but fishing from the bank definitely is a disadvantage, plus quite costly because of hang ups and lost lures. I usually throw a lipless crank on the bridge pilings and along the bank, but because of the extremely warm temps lately it seems that maybe they're getting up closer to start bedding and the reaction bite has died off. Weightless Texas rigged Senkos have been my go to technique simply because they don't hang up as much, but the wind gives me a hard time with such a light lure. I've tried adding weight to the T-rig but this gets hung up and tungsten ain't cheap lol. Anyone have any suggestions for something different to throw?
  18. Hello All! I have been lurking around this WONDERFUL resource of information and I wanted to introduce myself finally. I have been fishing for about 4 months, mainly on weekends but loving every minute of it. I have been watching and reading every chance I get and I have learned a lot. I have also become a rod/reel addict! so I am wanting to see if you guys could help me associate my rod/reels to their best partner. Now some of these rods/reels were purchased second hand, off craigslist and some new. I was mainly looking at price point starting out and have bought a few pricier items as time has gone. I need help matching rods to reels and possibly weed out the stragglers/duplicates. THANK YOU! 19. Hey guys I am fishing 90 percent of the time from the bank and was wondering if you guys have any tips or tricks for this style of drop shot.
  20. Just wondering if anyone knows of public ponds, rivers, or lakes in the valrico, fl area. I tend to fishing 30 min north along the Hillsborough river and some local ponds but its not ideal for a quick fishing session. If you have any decent locations that your willing to share lmk.
  21. I started bass fishing again for the first time since I moved to Tacoma from San Diego a few years back and I have had a much harder time finding the bite. I've checked out quite a few lakes south of Tacoma and haven't had much success or found a lot of good access to banks. I've fished kapowsin, spanaway, tanwax, and Ohop all with minimal success and was wondering if there are any other suggestions for a bank angler. I don't mind driving an hour or so (I live 5 minutes from lake spanaway) to find lakes with more accessible banks and active bites. Thanks!
  22. I am a young bank largemouth fisherman with not much money to spend. I also do not want to carry around a lot of rods fishing from the bank. What rod, reel, and line would be the most versatile to use in my situation.
  23. This a bank fishing report for the Stranahan River. I started at River side park on 205 Coral Ridge Dr, Coral Springs, FL 33071 and worked my way up to N Pine Island road. 24. Hey guys, I've been wondering if anyone has had any luck fishing the Griffin Canal or the South New River Canal. I have fished there once or twice with no luck and I've heard you can catch Bass Peacocks and even maybe a snook or tarpon. Anyone have any tips on where to fish (I usually go to the Nob Hill intersection) and what baits to use? I am very interested in catching a snook in freshwater but know only of that spot and the Canal running along State Road 84 I also do enjoy catching everything else in those waters so if anyone has any info on pretty much anything in the Davie/Plantation/Cooper City I'm interested. Thanks!
  25. I'm having a tough time catching fish from the banks of lakes during the summer. Can anyone give me some advice on where and what to fish to get some bites?
