  1. Recently I tried Lake Trout jigging. People stated that all I needed was my bass gear and I'd be set. They were right for the rods but the reels failed me. Wherein the spinning reels worked great and had plenty of line (not a surprise as spinning reels naturally hold more line than bass baitcasting reels) the bass baitcasting reels did not. Using my Abu Garcia Revo Rockets which were spooled to the max they ran out of line at 180 feet. I'm using 30lbs. Power Pro braid and according to the chart that should be 140 yards/420 feet of line! Even if it was maxed out at 50lbs. line it should have 100 yards/300 feet of line. Here is a pic of my reel. Do Reel manufacturers lie about their reels line capacity?
  2. Hi guys, my curado 200i just broke so I'm in need for a new reel. So far, I have a: topwater/jerkbait/weightless plastic rod (6'8 M/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 100 frog/punching/swimbait rod (7'10 H/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 200 and my jig/chatterbait/texas rig (7'1 MH/F st-croix mojobass) which used to be paired with a curado 200i I already looked up on Daiwa website and the Elite, Elite P/F, Tatula 150 as well as their tatula sv tws all look interesting but can't figure out which one would be more appropriate for the use. I really like Daiwa's breaking system but I'm still open to suggestions.
  3. Hello, I’m looking for some help regarding my Shimano Casitas 150HG. The reel casts fine, but when I turn the handle to reel it makes a somewhat loud noise. Im pretty sure it’s the bearing but my question is what bearing should I replace? And does anyone know the size? Thank you
  4. I want to replace my handle on my Tatula 150, does anyone have any suggestions? I am looking for a good handle for the price. I bent mine awhile back and would like to upgrade. Appreciate it!
  5. Hey guys, new to the group. I joined specifically to get input on a reel decision. I recently purchased a 6'8" MH Favorite Summit for a fantastic price and want to pair it with a decent reel. I've narrowed it down to a Lew's Pro Ti, Shimano 18 Aldebaran 30 MGL and a 13 Fishing Concept C. I will be using it mostly for small-med jigs, small swimbaits, T-rigs, ned rigs, etc around medium-medium heavy cover in small natural lakes. My current arsenal consists of: - 6'6" MH Shimano Convergence w/ Shimano Curado 201 Bantam Reel (6.2:1) - 7' MH Lews speed stick TP1 w/ BPS JM CarbonLite 2.0 (8.3:1) - 6'10" MH Daiwa Tatula Bass rod w/ Shimano Curado DC (7.4:1) - 7'3" MH Favorite Emperor w/ Daiwa Tatula SV TWS (8.1:1) Anyone with experience with 2 or more of the reels especially, please give me your input! Thank you - Zack
  6. I've been eyeing the Smoke S3 for a while for my new setup and then when I learned of the new Tatula I started eyeing that. The Smoke S3 has only good reviews all over the internet including TackleTour's review and on TW, it looks great, and it has big spool capacity. My main interest with the new Tatula is the size, I am a teenager and I have rather small hands and I think this new tatula would fit my hand a bit better than the Smoke. I know Quantum hasn't had the bigggest following lately, but people are saying the S3 series reels are extremely good reels and i can't find a single bad review, the only problem I heard was throwing light baits and I don't plan on throwing anything under like 3/8 oz plus a trailer. I know there are a lot of hardcore daiwa fans on here so I'm probably going to get a lot of "just go with the Tatula no doubt" but I hope to hear from some people with experience with the Smoke. Just give me your most honest opinion please. Thanks, Harrison btw the rod its almost 100% going to be put on is a Dobyns Sierra if that helps you answer for some reason.
  7. Hey guys I’ve been looking at a reel called the typhoon made by a company I can’t say for some reason, but if you know what I’m talking about is it a good reel and would it be good for froggin
  8. So I am looking for a new casting reel, the most I would like to spend is 80 but I can do 90 if it is worth it. I am looking to put it on a medium heavy rod. I have had the abu garcia black max before and wasnt too impressed and would like something nicer. So far, I have looked at the Abu Garcia Orra sx, *** origin A, Lews Laser MG speed spool and shimano caenan. Any advice on which of these reels are better than the other or new suggestions are appreciated
  9. I am a relatively new fisherman and love the information on this forum. Unfortunately, i'm also a broke a** college student and need to upgrade from my 10 year old $25 combo. I'm looking for a solid MHF 7-7'2 rod ( needs to be good for all around fishing, which is why i picked this), for under $80. I would prefer a solid $40-$60 rod, but if its a great deal will consider up to 80, so please refrain from the "spend $20 more and get a ..." as i really don't have the cash.. Also looking for a quality reel, same range. Any sales on nice equipment would be VITAL (and preferred), or any combos that offer a solid deal on rod and reel as well. I just missed out on a $60 sellus and sedona combo at dicks and am very ticked, so that is pretty much my standard for deals, I figured someon on here can help me find where the major deals are. Thanks guys, happy fishing
  10. What is the difference other than the price between the Lews Speed Spool LFS and the Lews Tournament MB Speed Spool? Other than the price. If you have both or either of these reels or have a different reel you own that's for around the same price it would be appreciated if you shared.
  11. Hi, Im pretty new to bass fishing. I have a Kastking Royale Legend Low Profile Baitcasting reel. What brand of reel grease and oil should I use? I do maintenence on it about once every couple months.I only have some cheap grease and oil I got from Walmart (Penn brand), I use that, but want to use something that will make my reel run smoother.
  12. Is anyone aware of some of the lightest inshore baitcast rods on the market today? If there's already a recent forum, feel free to let me know. Thanks
  13. I'm looking for opinions on a good monofilament to use on a baitcasting set I'll be using exclusively for topwater presentations, such as poppers, walking baits like a spook, and prop baits. I'm planning to use 12 - 15#. I've been using braid & fluoro pretty much exclusively for about 10 yrs. I've only got one set up with mono, and it's an ultralight with 6# Trilene XT. I like the XT, but thought there might be better options out there. I've used Suffix Siege in the past too & had no issues. Thanks!
  14. Hi, Ive been looking for a good baitcasting rod and reel, and I just cant decide on one. Ive looked at mostly Lews reels and a cheap st. Croix rod. I mostly do weightless worm fishing (senkos) and I need one that doesn't exceed $220. Thanks.
  15. Hi BR, You might have seen my other post about my top water rod. But I am upgrading my crank bait rod also. I am from Toronto Canada and our fall fishing is coming to an end. But it is also a great time to grab discounted gear and upgrade arsenal. I am a huge Loomis fan and I was wondering which Loomis rod would be best for crank bait. I am most likely looking in the GLX line since NRX doesn't make crank bait rods. Keep in mind I think I am leaning towards a GLX 843 CBR OR GLX 845 CBR , let me know what your thoughts are! 17. Hi all! So I recently got into fishing and bait casting specifically and fell in love. So I recently purchased and was gifted a few items and want to make sure I have the right techniques for the right rods. i have" 7 foot St croix avid x medium / fast action 7 foot 3 inch *** *** black MH /fast action Also an entry level Ugly stick 6 foot spinning rod (with a upgrade pfluegger president reel). I also have two very nice reels to go along with my bait casting. I was thinking the 7 ft st croix rod would be for lighter baits and lures, like 3/8th crank baits cause I love my crank baits. For flipping pitching and punching, I would use my *** *** black. and maybe for weightless senkos use my spinning rod or st croix. Thoughts?
  18. Hi guys and gals I'll try to keep this short and simple. I'm new to fishing, have a super tight budget and just wanna have fun with a somewhat dependable setup. I'd like to show you what i'm looking at and have someone help me disseminate what's best and worst of the group. 1) http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Tourney-Special-Rod-and-Reel-Baitcast-Combo/product/2254710/ 2) http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=65167646 3) https://www.amazon.com/Lews-Fishing-American-Heroes-Baitcast/dp/B00PB7J1DE/ref=sr_1_4?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1468902587&sr=1-4&keywords=reel+rod+combo&refinements=p_n_feature_nine_browse-bin%3A6680030011%2Cp_36%3A5000-10000 4) https://www.amazon.com/Shakespeare-Elite-Baitcast-Combo-Medium/dp/B011LUVLZU/ref=sr_1_12?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1468902308&sr=1-12&keywords=reel+rod+combo&refinements=p_n_feature_nine_browse-bin%3A6680030011 Or a non combo, something like this. 5) https://www.amazon.com/Shakespeare-Casting-8-20-Pound-6-Feet-Medium/dp/B00F0KLSBA/ref=sr_1_5?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1468903303&sr=1-5&keywords=baitcasting+rod&refinements=p_72%3A1248957011%2Cp_n_feature_nine_browse-bin%3A6680030011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_five_browse-bin%3A7933066011|7933065011%2Cp_36%3A2000-5000 with https://www.amazon.com/Baitcasting-Fishing-Bearings-Baitcast-Baitcaster/dp/B011WM9D7A/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
  19. I have a quantum Kevin van dam signature series baitcasting pole it's green 6'6" it say spinnerbait on the pole, I broke it coming back from a fishing trip so I would like to find the same pole because I don't want to spend to much on a new pole until I have the money for a dobyns. Please help me find the same pole
  20. I'm just starting baitcasting. I bought a new Abu Garcia Silvermax reel and put it on a couple rods that I got a garage sale. After trying the reel on both of the rods I'm not getting great casts. Now I'm sure there's some 'new to baitcasting issues' here (user error?) but I'm wondering if the used rods I got are actually baitcasting rods or just some old 'push-button' reel type of rods. Can anyone help me out? Is there a difference? The rods are a Zebco Rhino and a Berkley Phazer. pics linked here https://www.dropbox.com/s/tq1wortw9l9esi3/Rod1.jpeg?dl=0 and here https://www.dropbox.com/s/u3grbz0yzt9rnm1/Rod2.jpeg?dl=0 Thanks
  21. I'm looking for a good baitcasting rod that's under $200, I primarily use soft plastic frogs, lizards, flukes etc. and I'm looking for a good pole that shapes around that setup and I don't quite know what rod to get. Please help.
  22. I am looking to buy a baitcasting rod/reel for jigs, preferably from abu Garcia, pfluegar, Berkley, or fenwick because those are the brands FFO carrys. My budget for the combo is 80-100 dollars. Any suggestions?
  23. A friend of mine is getting into bass fishing. What would the best baitcasting combo for him to learn on that would cost around $100 or less? I know you generally get what you pay for with baitcasters but wondering if there was a good combo out there that would be good for a beginner, or even getting rod/reel separately that wouldn't break the bank?
  24. Caution stay away from Cabela's website, the reel deals are too good! LOL. Purchased 2 new Lew's Tournament Pro's last week for $119.99 a piece. Today they added the Okuma Helios for $119.99 with the current discount code it totals to $104. Plus $30 rebate from Okuma its dirt cheap! .. Are the Helios any good? Never owned a okuma, but this deal just looks nice. What's scary is I don't even have rods to pair them with.. Yet LOL
  25. I need some advice from someone who has used this rod. I'm not really interested in using it for cranking as my cranking rod will easily throw the lightest cranks I use. What I'm looking for is a rod to pretty much replace the spinning rod I use for weightless plastics, drop shots, mojo rigs, shakey heads, etc. Assuming I have a reel capable of casting light weights and use 20 lb braid mainline, do you think the action is fast enough and backbone powerful enough to fish it for this purpose effectively? I have the 711MHRB and found it perfect for t rigs and jigs with a similar setup. It fishes mod-fast, so I'm assuming the med light version is similar, but I don't know.
