  1. What are your favorite soft baits that you won’t leave home without? How do you rig them? What rod do you throw them on?
  2. I'm looking for a new "multipurpose" rod/combo that could be used for walking baits, jerkbaits, or small crankbaits; mostly medium sized trebled baits under 1 1/2 oz. Also, do you think a curado 70 would work for these kinds of applications? It would be best if any rod suggestions were under or near 200.
  3. Just curious guys... I'm still in the camp of just not being able to reel a baitcast reel with my left hand. It feels awkward, looks awkward, and just isn't fluid. I don't like the rod crossing my body from 5 to 11 o'clock either. Then of course there are people online who are like "Ohhh silly right handers it makes no sense to switch hands" yadi yada. I am right handed, so i cast from the right side, or overhead, then I'm able to switch hands before my bait hits the water. I hold my spinning rods in my right hand and reel with my left. So to the guys and gals that reel traditionally, and haven't gotten on the left retrieve train, do you guys notice any decrease in sensitivity or bite detection? Do you feel like you're as confident holding the rod with your less dominant hand? For me, and if I'm being honest, I don't think the confidence is as high as it is with a spinning set up, but its very close. Very rarely do I feel like I would have had a better shot if I got that bite on a spinning rod. However to me, the trade off just isn't worth it. And the confidence will increase with time I'm sure. I'd rather be able to reel smoothly in a circle and feel comfortable in my approach than feel like I'm missing an occasional soft bite. Am I wording this right? Make sense? What do you guys think? I'd rather build my last little bit of confidence reeling righty than try to learn to reel lefty.
  4. Hey all. Any help on these park ponds? Im new to the area. Tried El Dorado in Long Beach amd was skunked. Any bass fishing advice would be great.
  5. I just finished my attempt to create a dying gizzard shad. Any opinions or tips for me? Just curious what would be the most you guys would be willing to spend on a bait like this one?
  6. This week I plan on visiting my local Bass Pro Shops to do some shopping for lures but I do not know what to purchase so far I have the Salty Super Fluke and the Ribbit Frog in watermelon color. We are new to the Georgia fishing lakes not sure what fish bites what so I am asking everyone here. I tried the Super Fluke few times last week and this early morning when I took my father to Lake Blackshear and fished off the dock since we do not own a boat. Thank you for your time. - Jamie
  7. What carp bait works in the US the best? People say that boiles don't work here as they do in Europe. I tried sweet corn but it doesn't work. Also, I tried dough bait with strawberry jello and it didn't work as well. The only bait that works well is quick greats+white bread+creamed corn. If you know other carp bait and it's known to be working please share it here.
  8. Hey guys new member here with a question. Does anybody know of a good kit or anything that would allow me to customize my own spinnerbaits? I’ve been wanting to get more into customizing my own baits and I’m wanting to start with my spinnerbaits. I’d really like to customize my own skirts and stuff. I don’t want to manufacture my own stuff but I would like to mix and match my own colors but haven’t really been able to find anything on Google unless I’ve skipped over it. If anybody has any input it would be greatly appreciated!
  9. Need a little help from the group. I just bought a house that's blocks from the Glades and a major canal that runs from the Glades easterly towards the shore smack between Coral Springs and Tamarac. Mostly bank fishing or a little pier open for public use. However I'm inexperienced especially in fresh/brackish waters and I'm curious as to what kinds of fish I can expect to find, baits or lures to use? Line to use? Sinkers or floaters? Any specific knot? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm dyeing to learn what'll become my new fishimg spots
  10. So, while I have fallen victim to my share of broken lines and lost lures, I often wonder whether or not I’m pairing my line with the right tackle; obviously not! In my search for answers, very specific answers at that, I’ve come across what seems to have been the most thorough and yet efficient article on ‘bassfishin’ website titled fishing-line-guide [I couldn’t add link for some reason]. I mean, yes!!! Finally, a very detailed article, but... wow! I couldn’t help but feeling like my three rod, three reel arsenal will get me no where. I realize that there ideal setups per technique or presentation but where’s the middle of the road? How can I make the most out of a reel without having to switch out the line with each lure change? For example, if one of my rod and reel combos can work many techniques and handle (obviously) the weight of many lures but technically based on the article requires a different line for each, how do I get around having to switch out the line? Does anyone have better recommendations? I fish (freshwater) with monofilament because I’m fairly new to fishing and that’s what’s always recommended to me. My current reels and rods are as follows: G.Loomis Mag Bass 782c 6’6” Med Fast Mag Bass 844c 7’ Heavy Fast Crankbait 864C DF 7’2” Med-Heavy Mod Shimano Chronarch 200E7 7.0:1 Curado K 6.2:1 & 8.5:1
  11. I've heard a lot about the Whopper Plopper bait and am looking to buy one in the near future. The only issue for me is picking the size, 90 or 130? In my lake we usually don't catch very large largemouth bass on a regular bases, normally around one to three pounds. For the price I don't want to get a lure that is too big or too small for the bass, so, what do you guys think?
  12. I'm going to go bass fishing, and I'm going to use live bait in a lake lewisville's marina in Fort Worth. However I'm not sure what to really use as a rig. Do I use circle hooks or a live bait hook. Should I use a bobber if so how big does it need to be for the fish not to pull it down. Any tips would be much appreciated
  13. What is a good bait for spring bass fishing i've used senkos and jigs but haven't had much luck other than a couple dinks. < the picture is as a joke> I live in iowa
  14. I have a tournament in 2 weeks at wylie. I have never fished there. What is the main baitfish in the lake, and what works best? Also is the water normally stained or pretty clear? Thanks!
  15. Hi, I know nothing about fishing. I found a bag of lures that were my grandpa's. There are 19 different lures. He used to fish in Ohio on Lake Eerie. My dad had them, now I have them. Are they worth anything? I don't fish often and would like to give them to someone who could make use of them! I posted some pictures at the following link - had to post them on another forum - pics were too big to post here Thank you! Best Regards, Calvin
  16. Hi everyone, Just started fishing at a new lake called Lake Chabot in the Oakland area and was wondering what you guys have had success on in that lake specifically or if you have any tips when fishing a new lake. It is a relatively large lake with deepish water in certain areas. Stocked with trout but has bass and catfish as well. Thanks for the help!
  17. What's going on fishing community? This Spring I plan on fishing a farm pond I previously fished this fall. I know for a fact there are 4-5 lbers in abundance there; maybe even 5+ lbers. How do I target the bigger bass of this pond more efficiently without catching dinks? What lures would be recommended? Also a side note - These bass seem to like the banks. I had a 5lber slam my top water frog at the edge. Thanks everyone!
  18. Okay so I know the bait you're using is really important but my question is how do you know which bait to use if they are similar. In my arsenal of baits I have a lot of different soft plastics and when I'm trying to fish slowly on the bottom I normally go off of color but does the bait actually matter? Like if I am throwing a texas rig what is going to decide whether I tie up a craw or ribbon tail. And when I do fish slow What is the difference of fishing a fitness worm, jig, or any slow moving bait, if the color matches and sizes is it just personal opinion or is there better times to throw a craw over a worm and so on?
  19. I need some help locating ledges in lakes when you don't have a depth finder. I fish out of a jon boat and do not have the money for a depth finder at the moment. Any tips on finding them to catch deep summer bass?
  20. hi, i am wondering what size minnow is too small for any kind of bait fishing. for instance, would a minnow of about half an inch be good bait for anything at all? i am mainly going into trout fishing. im mostly set up for smaller trouts at the moment.
  21. Today I caught my first striper ever. It wasn't a huge fish, only about 2-3 lbs. But while unhooking him hooked my index finger with a treble hook (for the first time as well) from the lure past the barb. Pulled it out, and caught two more stripers. It was a good day.
  22. I was wondering what some of the best ways to catch bass at Lake Anna in Virginia (cold side) are and what baits/lures are the best?
  23. We are taking our Bass Boat and going to Douglas lake on vacation for a week from June 20-28 this year staying at Anchor Campgrounds. We have never fished Douglas Lake before. We will be fishing for Bass primarily. Can you give us any ideas of what crank baits, swim baits, colors, etc. to have with us for this trip? Also since our fish finders are older any locations to concentrate on would be great. From what I have read so far we are coming in a little late in the year for this lake and we will have to go deep for the bass. Do you agree?
  24. Hi, I live in Quad Cities and looking for some bait shop (preferably on Iowa side) that sells xlarge minnows and leeches . Like catfish or pike's size. I know that local gas stations sell some live minnows but they are too small. Google is not able to find anything else so I would appreciate if some shared information about such places. thank you,
  25. What is your go-to bait that always seems to catch you a fish when having a tough day? For me I'd have to go with jigs, and chatterbaits.
