  1. Looking at a custom frog rod that can either be 7' or 7'6" for a great price and opportunity. What would you guys lean towards? Really hoping to also throw some A rigs and larger swimbaits so the 7'6 looks good but it's rated for 1/2- 1 1/2 so might not toss a frog well and the extra length might make walking frogs uncomfortable. What rod would be more suited to the frog and what would be most versatile? Thanks!
  2. Hi BR, Got to fish Sam Rayburn with Ken Smith recently and we had a blast. Below is a video of our day...hope you like it! Thanks for watching! James N
  3. Where i am from in SC, people use a A-Rigs alot in the winter. I never really had much confidence in throwing one, and the only one i have is the Yumbrella. The problem i have with it is that is it really heavy. The areas i would mostly use it would be throwing by docks. What is a good lighter weight umbrella rig? and what jig heads do yall use?
  4. I'll be fishing texoma in a week and I was wondering what heads and swimbaits to use there.
  5. Ok let me set the scene really quick. Sunday morning I fished a local tournament on a lake I don't really fish often except for these weekly tournaments and I only fish the tournament once a month. I usually fish with my wacky rig and my pitchin stick with 3/8 oz jigs, its what I have the most confidence in. Anyway, we(my brother and I) got out on the water and started to fish and noticed a lot of bait fish schools...A LOT. At this point I realized I had the wrong stuff with me. I tried everything and I got nothing. I spent more time tying and re-tying baits than I did fishing. Changing plastic colors, sizes and types. I threw stuff I never thought I would throw and still nothing. We ended up getting skunked and leaving about an hour earlier than weigh in time. Yesterday morning it dawned on me that maybe an A-rig would have worked wonders. The lakes around here are shallow, they avarage about 6 ft to 7 ft at the deepest and at most 10 ft to 12 ft deep in holes so nobody really throws and A-rig because its too bulky and would get snagged easily. I have never used an A-rig and have no idea what brand or size to get. I was thinking the Yum Flashmob Jr with colorado blades since most of the water here is stained to muddy and of course shallow. I wanted any input from seasoned A-rig anglers and get some advice on which brands and styles are you guys' favorites and of course how to fish this thing. Thanks in advance guys and tight lines!
  6. I haven't used an A rig before and need some advice on the type of rod, reel, and line to use. What rod should I use? (Length, power, action) What should I look for in a reel? What line should I use? (mono, fluoro, braid) and what line strength? If you have particular makes/models of rod, reel, line that would be great. Otherwise, advice on what to look for is appreciated. Thanks for your help. Mark
  7. First, foul hooked fish don't count. That's obvious. I don't take pictures with accidentally snagged fish, and just unhook them in the water. If it didn't eat it, it doesn't count! But I had a strange situation yesterday on the Alabama Rig... Was fishing an A-Rig yesterday with 2 hooks and 3 teasers, since I can only legally use 2 hooks in a deep reservoir. So I hooked a big fish and I fish it it up right next to the boat... looks to be a 6 or 7 pound largemouth. It has the middle (and biggest) bait in it's mouth, but during the fight the second hook has gotten stuck into its side. Then it makes one last attempt to get away just as I am netting it, and the hook in the mouth pulls. But sine there is one hook still stuck in it, I am able to net it. This would have been my new PB, but I don't feel right calling it my PB, since without the second hook snagging into it it would have gotten away. What do you guys make of this situation? Legal fish or not?
  8. Saw today that BASS banned the A-Rig in ALL tournaments that impact Classic qualifying. Suppressing innovation, or the right call?
  9. Really wanting to get into fishing umbrella rigs, and was wondering what your favorite rigs and baits were. Thanks
  10. I have a Yum Flash Mob Jr. and several packs of the 3.5" Alewife Cane Thumper. Looking for recommendations on some good jig heads for this rig. I usually use 1/8th oz on the top and 3/16-1/4 oz heads on the bottom, but looking for a good brand to pair with the shad color Alewife. I've gotta a BPS gift card and need to order some! thanks for the input!
  11. I been wanting to get a rig, but want to wait till I get a heavy action rod, but can't wait any longer! I've been fishing some multi bait rigs recently like the double fluke and the donkey rig. I went out yesterday with a donkey rig baited with Super Fluke (White Ice) and caught several good fish. The equipment I have to accommodate, hopefully, a light umbrella rig is a Veritas 7'6" MdHvy, BPS Pro Qualifier and 50# Power Pro. I've seen several rigs at Academy that looked good, but want to get the forums opinion and advice on what will work for my setup. Mainly jig head weights, baits and maybe brands? I'd like to go inexpensive if at all possible. Any help is greatly appreciated! ~Tight Lines~
