  1. On the 1-10 Angling Tech Scale (ATS), where do you rank and why? I consider a bank angler with a rod or two and a few lures in a pocket to be a 1. Someone with a tricked out bass boat with the latest FFS would be a 10. I'm a 3. I fish out of a plain hull, I.e. a Bell Rockstar canoe with no accessories and electronics. However, it is a Kevlar boat, which is advanced technology, and my paddle is carbon, which is more technology. I choose to be a 3 because it's all I can carry, but being a 3 allows me to fish water others can't reach, so at this point, even if were younger and stronger, I think I'd still fish at level 3. As far as why you fish at your ATS level, it might be your finances or a love of tech or anything else.
  2. From the album: A-Jay Pics IV

    Life Time Memory
  3. From the album: Double Digit

Knew she was big, but didn't think she would get to double digits. Though she was around 9.0 - 9.5 then I put her on the scale.
  4. Getting rid of a Pro Tournament Scale complete weigh-in package. I opted for the package that came with the weigh-in basket, w/ stabilizing lid instead of the carrying case. It’s 2 seasons old. Used for 6 events in 2021, and 5 events in 2022. 100% working condition, comes with weigh-in basket w/ lid. Paid $1,200 for it 2 years ago, asking $700. This scale is a the 50lb version. Willing to meet for purchase anywhere from Portland south to NH border. Payment will be PayPal, or cash only. If buyer wants to pay for shipping, we can discuss that further. Pictures are available upon request.
  5. Over the years, I have bought different brands of digital scales (Berkley, Rapala, BassPro, Generics, etc). nothing ever over $50. I cannot find one that lasts and that is accurate. I have never tried tried mechanical scales, maybe that's the next option. I am not a tourney fisher, so it's only for recreational weighing to keep track of my own progress. I certainly don't wanna break the bank. Read a lot of reviews about a number of them, but so many negatives, mixed in with some positives. Obviously, the negatives stand out. Anyone here use a good scale that they can recommend?
  6. Was a slow spawn this year with yo yo-ing temperatures. Caught two 5s on Thursday in the cooler weather but lost a potential double digit at the bank. Went back today to avenge my loss but didn’t have my scale. How much do you think this one weighs? Was chunky. I was thinking in the 6 to 8 range
  7. Looking to finally invest in a decent fishing scale basically for bass fishing only. I still have a few of those old black rapala ones with the hook and the actual spring. Looking to upgrade to something a little more modern. Nothing that'll break the bank. But something that's of decent quality. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. In October 2015, we had a discussion titled: Do You Have To Spend Big Bucks For An Accurate Scale? As part of that discussion, board member @Fisher-O-men recommended an inexpensive scale available on eBay (usually advertised as a "luggage scale") as a candidate. Curious, I ordered two of those scales from an eBay seller for about $4 each shipped (and you can still find them on eBay even cheaper than that). Upon receipt of the scales, I load tested them as I do all of my digital scales and found them to be VERY accurate, and repeatable, and were as good or better than the $15 to $20 Rapala scales that I had in service. That initial load test was documented in this post back in October 2015: Then, later in that thread, I posted this: So, as stated in the above quoted post, I have been using Unit 1 all of this year as my primary bank-fishing scale. This morning, I ran another load test on Unit 1 using the same 9.804 test weight and, still using the original supplied AAA batteries, the result was..............................the exact same 9.80 pound weight as on most previous tests (I did have one earlier load test on Unit 1 that pulled 9.77 - 1/2 ounce light). The batteries tested at 1.47v and 1.48v after nearly one year of service. Replacing the batteries with fresh AAA's testing at 1.62v each, resulted in a measured weight of, wait for it..................................9.80 pounds. Here is Unit 1 under load this morning: So, as promised, here is the one year report. You can see from the above photo that Unit 1 is now a veteran with scratches, smudges, and fish slime as well as some of the original factory lettering starting to wear off. So, far, durability seems good. I'll put another reminder in my computer for December 1, 2017 and we'll see how this unit performs over its second year of service. Since the earlier thread, I purchased 2 more of these scales, and now have a total of 4 of them. The WORST unit (Unit 4) reads 1 ounce heavy on the 9.804 pound test weight - all the rest are within .02 pound (1/3 ounce) of the test weight. I use them for weighing stuff around the house, for weighing packages to determine postage, and for back-up to my other fishing scales. Oh, and I also use them for weighing luggage ! FOUR of these scales cost about what ONE of my Rapala scales cost. Value delivered so far... Given the accuracy, low cost, and apparent durability of these scales, there is NO EXCUSE for anyone NOT having an accurate scale. No more of those "look at this picture - how much do you think she weighs" threads - BUY a scale !
  9. That I can weight 1/64oz to 30oz. I need it for the fishing lures and gear. there are so many in market, I want to know if you have something that you sure it is exact and working good. I bought one and it is garbage, Going to toss it into bin.
  10. I weighed this one on a really old spring scale (non digital)  and under the gill slit but the fish was kind of at an angle when hanging there weighing it. Scale read just under 8lb mark. It may be just me wanting it too be heavier lol but does 8lbs seem right? Also, do I get a more accurate weight if it’s whole body is hanging off the hook of the scale like hooking it’s lip instead? https://share.icloud.com/photos/0OxFZ4T1ptJJ3q3ZGzGvHTNsQ
  11. I'd like to buy good dependable scale that's accurate(!), and lasts awhile - a good 3-4 years at least. My budget is around $100 so what would you recommend? I don't want to buy some cheap garbage that tells a different story either. I'm likely going back to church in due time, and I don't want to "lie" anymore. lol
  12. I assume this is in the right forum. If not, mods please move it to the appropriate one. I emailed Rapala customer support this question, but an AI bot replied with a prepared answer about pride in their products and their warranty policy. I'm comfortable with the accuracy of my Rapala RHCDS50 scale as I've used it on objects with known weights. The problem is that when I catch small bass under a pound, the scale often registers 0.0.0. This is the second unit I had the same issue with. I had lost one and purchased another. Is this a known issue with this scale or digital fish scales? Can this be user error? Should I be gripping in a different spot? Gravity is gravity, so I I understand this question may sound strange, but I find this very puzzling and am looking for an explanation. Thanks
  13. This phots showed up yesterday on Facebook & some guys were questioning the validity of the scale it was weighed on. They still questioned it after the marina employees verified the weight & that their scale was regularly checked for accuracy. Then today I noticed another photo that better illustrates the true mass of this fish caught by Joe McKay on Lake O.H. Ivie.
  14. Any recommendation on an accurate scale? I'll take accuracy over durabilty if that matters.
  15. I know there is already a thread on this but I’d like some more info. I’m not asking for a specific just which is better the lip grip or the hook that goes up the gills?

  17. Please help me if you have fish gripper and you know what is the best for money in market, I need it at least 20lb test.
  18. I got home from work, grabbed one rod and some essentials and headed for the pond. A couple were fishing my “usual” spot on the bank so I went further down. After 20 minutes they moved halfway to where I was so I packed up and headed to that spot. On the third cast I had a light strike on a weightless Senko TR (that was it for me). I saw the male half catch a dink, but a few minutes later he hooked a decent bass. It got caught in weeds and I thought he was going to either lose it or fall in, but he got it. He started heading towards his better half so being gallant, I grabbed my scale (I remember being scaleless lol) and headed over. It was a nice bass that weighed 5.8 lbs. He was happy to know how much it weighed (he thought maybe 4 lbs so bigger than he thought). His wife took pics so now he knows how big that bass in the pic is! Good for me was that he shared info that he caught it on a Z Man TRD Ned rig. And that he uses a Ned rig a lot in these ponds. I guess I need to satisfy the Monkey and get some mushroom heads and some Z Man TRD’s!
