  1. Keeping you in my thoughts, Tommy - here's to a successful procedure and a quick recover so you can get back out chasing those Cajun Bass.
  2. I just joined the forum. I’ve been largemouth bass fishing for around 25 years from a youjgster. I mainly fish small shallow lakes/ponds and love beating the banks either from aluminum my bateau or the banks. My go to rig is a Shimano Calcutta ct50b paired with a falcon medium- heavy 6’6” rod using mostly soft plastics. I’m currently fishing a culprit 7.5” red shad worm on 10 pound stren clear/blue line and an 1/8 or even a 1/16 ounce bullet weight rigged traditional Texas style with gold success . This looks like a great resource community to us anglers and will appreciate any advice or wisdom anyone is willing to share when I ask stupid questions ok. lol
  3. Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster… I’m from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia Canada. I mainly target Smallies but get into largemouth from time to time. I used to be a kayak fisher (Old Town Sportsman 106pdl) but just finished my first season in a new to me boat (Cajun 162ZD Adventure) and it’s been a learning experience to say the least. Love the forum and all the information, tips and tricks and the personalities here. Hope to join in on the discussions!
  4. How much bass relie on crawfish as a food source depends greatly on the body of water. Some bodies of water have a limited population while others hold vast amounts. Just a dumb Cajun's thought but I'm fairly certain the bass knows the predominate prey species in its body of water.
  5. I have a 1989 Cajun 162ZD Adventure. As the name suggests, it’s not a true bass boat and only about 16’ long. it has quite a bit of storage for tackle and bags such things but it doesn’t have rod lockers nor is there enough room to build one in. I’ve been just kind of laying my rod on the side and bungee strapping them down and laying the ones I’m using down in the middle. It works but it can get a little cluttered and makes for transporting the rods securely a little bit sketchy.
  6. I'm going to St Pete Beach, FL the last week of March for a family vacation with my family. My wife is up for me to devote a day to some inshore guided saltwater fishing (bless her heart) so I'm using the same guide service I did back in April 2015 when I was there on my honeymoon. I talked to him this morning and I'm booked for Thurs, March 27 with Mike Anderson of Reel Animals out of Tampa. When I did this back in 2015, I had an awesome experience. We targeted snook, redfish, and sea trout on spinning tackle and caught a bunch of all three. One of the redfish was in the "keeper" slot and we were permitted to keep it. Our resort kitchen prepared it cajun style for us that night and it was fantastic. The guide I used last time was kick ass (it wasn't specifically Mike, but one of his guides) and he put my wife and I on fish regularly. I understand guide fishing is a crap shoot and the trip can turn out poorly; that's part of it. But the experience itself was so good I said I'd use Reel Animals again if I ever went back, so I am. I tipped him handsomely with straight cash. Here's some photos from 10 years ago that I hope to duplicate again in late March. I'll never forget the pelicans and birds that hung around the fish-cleaning table that afternoon. Those things would come right up to the table and wait for scraps like a pet dog. When he tossed that redfish carcass to them it was a "WAR OF THE BIRDS."
  7. Well, I bought an SLP Works Zillion from Amazon, and it didn't come with a spool, and it didn't come with a handle ...... oh yeah........ that's why I bought it. I'm the guy who always puts Amazon links on the forum when we're talking JDM prices. Especially with "Prime free shipping" buying Amazon is kind of a no-brainer. Buying from Amazon, you can also return it locally. https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-Gillion-1000L-Handle-Model/dp/B08NP1WDHM/ref=asc_df_B08NP1WDHM I've been buying in Japan since 2005, when google beta-translate Japanese didn't work, and you had to buy using a broker so the seller could get paid (Japan banking laws), he knows the language, and because you needed the broker for shipping. Buying direct from Japan is a very new thing. I still use my broker to buy from Yahoo, Rakuten, and the 99% rest of Japan, who don't care about our market or language. I have both US Prime account and amazon.jp account. If it comes from Amazon warehouse, you get the prime free shipping (or amazon.jp broker shipping rate) - if shipping is priced crazy, it doesn't. When I buy Japanese from Amazon, I will put the same item in both carts and check the total - usually it doesn't matter, and buying through Prime is the best price. If you don't have a Prime membership, buying a one-month Prime membership is cheaper than express shipping from Japan. Plus buying from US Amazon gives you the local return option, though we've talked before about JDM warranty and seppuku. amazon in general - it's amazing what you can get delivered tomorrow with free shipping - tools, fasteners, garbage disposal, oven heater coil, car parts, lures, hooks - in many cases, the prices are cheaper than retail stores - and they do the driving. Kinda the point of internet shopping - shop around - but paying USPS/UPS/FedEx on individual purchases adds up to the prime membership.* @Craig P - that's not exactly the case - it's sold by Amazon, and they get a better wholesale deal by making it look like Shimano, Daiwa has an "Amazon store" * last night I bought Cajun Thunder cigar corks and Owner hooks from Amazon - $25 compared to $40 mailed from Roy's Bait & Tackle .
  8. A longnose gar is more like a Cajun pickerel or pike. 😉 The real Cajun muskie is the alligator gar...tried to land one once that was all of four+ feet on 10# line and a spinning rod. Had the bright idea of trapping it between my boat and the shore of the bayou so I could save my crankbait. As soon as it was in shallow water it began flopping furiously and broke the line. 😳
  9. Ssssoooo is @Catt a dumb Cajun? I was searching about Cajun red line and found this https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/search/?&q=cajun&page=1&search_and_or=and I appreciate the laughs brother, seeing you say something like that so many times on multiple pages had me gassed haha. But anybody have any feedback on that Cajun red line? Like Berkeley BG? Better? Worse? Something else?
  10. Cajun muskie!!! 😂 I like it!!!
  11. I've got a worked over P07 and its easily one of my favorite compact/full sized pistols. Just about a full cajun trigger parts replacement and cut for an RMR. I'm most accurate with it and shoot it the fastest. It's honestly almost boring to shoot with how easy it is. Less metal in the frame and lower bore height make it really controllable. Depending on what circles you run in the CZ is as popular or more than some Glocks and M&Ps. It's unfortunately now associated with people trying to be "trendy" or "crunchy granola" type people. Mostly labeled from sore glock boys.
  12. I grew up on the Louisiana/Texas Gulf Coast. I fished from Brownville Texas to Panama City Florida & out 135 miles. I've fished numerous saltwater tournaments both inshore & offshore. I worked as Deck Hand & First Mate. Working on a Charter Fishing Boat someone has to clean all fish, wanna guess who! I got tired of the smell of fish guts, diesel fuel, & even the smell of saltwater. Being a Cajun during the 50s & 60s everything was a food source including bass. Bass fishing down here for me was a simple choice because they are so plentiful. I got into tournament fishing during the 70s on Toledo Bend & Sam Rayburn. I fished with guys called the Hemphill Gang. Exactly 😉
  13. ^ And here I thought it was just the result of Cajun Grade school...
  14. The reason the private sector is faster at responding is most don't have to wait on some boards of directors approval or the DOD. This is the reason to support LOCAL businesses! "Improvise, adapt, and overcome" Due to the terrain the Cajun Navy is coordinating teams with horses & pack mules.
  15. I stand corrected, the Cajun navy is there with a team of mules delivering insulin and other supplies . Great humans like @Catt know what’s up heard from my aunt and uncle in Brevard and they are ok. No power but alive and safe
  16. The fed has a lot of folks helping as well as the state the Cajun navy would be all over it as well if the roads were open you are correct @Functional, the news teams couldn’t get a hotel with power or water within 2 hours
  17. So I heard a term alot growing up in Texas and Louisiana that I just heard again...Coon ass. My question is ...is this an offensive term? If so I apologize. My dad always referred to his Cajun fishing buddies this way...didn't seem to phase them from what I remember.
  18. All Cajun recipes start with vegetables! Onions, bell pepper, celery, green onions, carrots, tomatoes, & potatoes. We cook with pinto beans, blackeyes peas, Lima beans, red beans, Navy beans, kidney beans. Then there's collard greens, zucchini, yellow squash, & pattypan squash. @Mobasser cure for the corn!
  19. I think bass can see our line but that's not my question. My question is what do they think it is? Do they gasp & say, that dang Cajun at it again. Next how can a bass pick out my line given everything floating in the water.
  20. Anyone have any recent experience or interaction with Cajun Rods? I've read a comment or two online which seems to suggest the company is under new ownership and the founder, Jaesen Yerger, is no longer affiliated with the company, but I can find nothing official online to confirm this. Nothing mentioned on the web site as far as I can tell. I've emailed the company a couple of times and have never received a response. I've also tried calling and no one ever answers the phones. This was a great company at one time, with a great product. I hope things haven't changed, but I'm getting the feeling they have...
  21. Guys revitalizing this thread. I kinda miss doing this. Scenery much different now in East tn. Gets too cold for my Cajun self at times 😂 Also I just was reading and realized about ghoti 😔 he sent me a pair of costas with bifocals I still have. We had so much going on this past year. He was a great man
  22. Examples Pre-spawn/spawn, the bass are moving, this Cajun will be moving. Dog Days of Summer with night time temperatures still in the 90s, the bass are lethargic & not moving. This Cajun ain't gonna be wondering around far. I've been known to sit on a single piece of offshore structure all night.
  23. @Koz The best "fast food" around here is Mom-n-Pop owed stores. one I frequent is Cajun Fast Mart. Excellent breakfast sandwiches made from scratch. Lunch there's brisket sandwiches made from brisket they smoke in house. They have more hunting & fishing equipment than most Academys.
  24. Hey all.... Cajun Red fishing line advertises that red is the first color to "disappear" under water. Thus, fish can not see the line. If that is the case, what does this mean about the "bleeding" everything fad. Red hooks, bleeding tubes, red dots or "kill spots" on hard lures all of which are supposed to attract fish. Which school of thought is correct or is it all a bunch of hooey!!?? : Please weigh in with your opinion folks!!!!! ajr
  25. Couyon (coo-yawn) A Cajun French term used to describe a foolish person. For $1,100 One lure Or a week on Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, or Lake Fork. 🤔
