  1. DANG! Im out for March....most likely moving to NM then . Come the next year though I wanna go! Sounds like a BLAST! I do have a suggestion though.....the Cabelas here in Buda Tx has some GREAT BASS in the aquarium (not to mention other species) and heck, Bass Pro Shops in San Antonio has some lunkers in it too!...HMM....both places are within 25 miles of me ;D. Perhaps we could convince them to allow us all to "Test out" some of the newer gear and we would let them film us....LOL! Where ever the outing is I am sure it will be AWESOME! Regards
  2. Yup I would echo trying to throw a fluke in there.... This weekend with Rebbasser we saw boils chasing something right near the boat working back and forth over about 50 yards. I asked if these were bass and Reb said "HECK YEAH!".....I figured they must be chasing baitfish. I tied on a fluke and made a couple of casts in the way I thought the "schools" were going. Sure enough one slammed my fluke (first fluke use) and I landed it. I figured what the heck...not my usual type of fishing but I have a pack in my arsenal just in case!
  3. "Smithers...release the hounds!".....LOL..... Welcome to the forums...great information here....just read, read, read!
  4. Welcome! Great fish by the way!
  5. If you can...pick up a hook cutter so that you can snip off the barb end (if possible) and remove all the hook/bait you have left.
  6. Congrats on the boat! From the pictures it looks as though it is in remarkable shape! Do it justice and get it out on the local waters ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I am headed out in the AM for some fishing fun on the electrics only lake.....Only a 50 mile drive but well worth it! PS thanks soooo much for getting the site back up.....I have my fix...I am ready to fish!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. WOW.....OUTSTANDING! I liked the Cameo's in there! I also am honored introduce Burley prior to his video clip....LOL...... Great Job...I only wish I had the talent to make videos like that! BTW.....are there Resource stickers available somewhere???? The Jeep and the Boat would like to have em! (perhaps not the wife but she's on vacation....LOL) ;D
  9. Thanks Glenn! I had the same problem with a 4wd site we were running.....pain in the proverbial butt when it comes to ensuring the data stays! If funding was or is an issue just ask for some help.....pretty sure a bunch would chip in to keep it running......worked for our site! Regards and thanks, Mike
  10. Ill be honest...... The downtime just plain stunk! Not entirely sure what happened here but I am happy that the site is back up and running....if not slowly for me..... Question?....Why did the site go down? Is funding needed? Regards, PS.....1000000 Gazillion percent happy its back up!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Clearer the better on a prefishing day....slightly stained for a counter day! Hmmm....I would like to see the fish and know that they are there....then tick the heck out of them so they cant resist the bait!
  12. Avid, I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!!! Has had that happen quite a bit...even yesterday! However, the "jerks" actually asked if they could pass me up to fish the creek area I was in.....I had no problem as I was SLOW fishing senkos and they were spinnerbaiting it.....after they left the area (5 min)....I had one of my hits for the day and they saw it....funny....as I was SLOW fishing hard...heck I was by myself and learning the Senko style...LOL.....I do give em credit for asking. Regards
  13. Hi Fatboy! Yeah you got that right....I would KILL for a bass an hour! Heck...I may not even go home...Id just keep fishing....if they are biting (any type of fish) I find myself fishing until I am WORN out!
  14. Thanks!!!! I suppose I am not in the "light tackle" realm based on the def you put up. I see folks that fish very heavy test lines but to me they just look MASSIVE. I am going to stick with the under 10 lb arena!
  15. I was in a GREAT club in Fort Walton Beach Florida....til 1998 when I got stationed overseas. Well run...boaters/nonboaters...monthly fishing club tourneys...guys that would fish all the time! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Met some great folks, learned alot, caught a bunch of fish! I am SOOO sorry you had that experience....I dont know of a club near me in San Antonio but I would hope that it is run like the club I was a member in 10 years ago! One terrific note that LBH mentioned is that there is NO DRAMA here....I am soooo glad I found this site. Emailed a member here (Rebasser) and he has provided me nothing but tips/advice/encouragement....so even if you did not get the support from that club see if the folks here might fish with ya! If you are in San Antonio lemme know and we can fish!
  16. When I fished back in the south east I always caught fish on every trip. Sometimes just one or all dinks but caught something just the same. I just fished for 12 hours on a lake here in Texas and got nuthin'! There was a tourney going on and no one was catching. I did see a lunker while fishing (actually retrieving a snagged bait) but could not land it. From some of the locals this lake is hard to fish in summer....Ill keep trying though as it is a blast just the same! I am going to an electric only lake about 30 miles from my house and will try to fish there (thanks to a Resource member for the support and tips!...Rebasser!). One thing that I failed to mention. On the trips in the South East when I said I caught a fish every trip...that is not a lie! What I failed to mention is that if I got "Skunked" at the lake/river I was fishing I always stopped by my mother in laws place (on the way home in NW FLA) and tossed the line in one of her two farm ponds. You could catch bass on just a line and hook. My wife explained that her dad used to catch bass all the time but would "relocate" them to those ponds...they hadnt been fished for over 10 years since he died....those bass must be loving something in there because they sure bite!
  17. Any and all! Although I do get a bit annoyed at all the sponsor plugs (hey they have to have the show paid for right?) but I will get over those. We used to play a game a while back in my younger days that you had to drink whenever anyone said "NICE FISH"....You'd be amazed at how much beer you can put back in an episode. My wife had a different version....you had to change the channel whenever they said "NICE FISH"....I didnt like playing her version much....LOL
  18. I was fishing ALL day at Canyon Lake here in Texas and I can tell you that the jetskiers/boaters were all over the place. I dont have a problem with that at all if they are respectful. I am respectfull when I boat....I expect the same. Even when cruising to a spot or so and I notice folks fishing I slow way down to avoid wake. Not everyone does it but I do. As with anything in life there are good and bad people.
  19. AMEN! There is NOT a thing wrong with setting the hook hard when something is "just not quite right". It was the BEST information I got when learning to fish for Bass. The older members in my club told me just that and it took a couple of tourneys for it to register in my noggin. Watch your line. PERIOD DOT. Forget looking towards the sound of a boil on the water once you have made the cast. COMMIT TO IT. Treat it like it was your life on the line. Watch the line. If it goes in ANY direction abnormally GO FOR IT! I had a senior club guy laugh incessantly at me on a pre-fish day telling me I had a fish....I thought I didnt...never felt the proverbial "TAP TAP TAP".....the line went back and forth...finally he said..."Set the friggin hook or you get off the boat"....I set her hard and got a nice 4lb bass. The tip that mentions the finger on the line.....DO IT IF YOU DONT ALREADY......feel everything......dont expect BIG BERTHA to slam your bait and go on a trip to Mexico.....sometimes (more than most in my cases) it is very subtle....again...SET THE HOOK! Hope this helps! Regards, Mike
  20. MASSHOLES UNITE!!!!! There is a little known law in Mass where you can shoot a Yankee's fan and get away with it.....LOL I was raised just north of Boston (outside of Lowell)....my family led a turbulent life to say the least. My dad was born in Beverly....my Mom was born in Franklin Square NY. So you tell me......who won the battle????? THE SOX BAYBEEE.......... It was a very sad day as both my grandmother and father on my Dad's side sadly departed this earth without seeing the Sox win the world series. But we all know in our hearts that they were watching from on high when the SOX won the world series!!!!!!! Ohhh btw...there is nothing worse than a Yankee fan in Mass......oh wait....there is one thing worse....BILL BUCKNER! Take care!
  21. WOW....never knew this technique....will have to give her a go!
  22. Hi Everyone! With the risk of being flamed to death....what are your thoughts on light tackle. I used to fish tourneys in the Southeast and then took some time off from bass fishing. Trout fishing SOLD me on light tackle. When I was fishing in FLA, GA, AL...The MAX I used was 10lb test....tried some of the spiderwire stuff but always went back to monofilament (Stren). I am back into bass fishing and am leery of going with higher test lines.....prefer the thin light 8-10lb test. Am I crazy? I have no problem tossin' worms, spinners, cranks into cover and "praying" for the best...I think I like the challenge of landing a fish on light tackle. So....what are your thoughts? Most of my rods are 5'6" to 6' medium action with baitcasters. (like shimano reels) I have no problems tossing a very light mitchell with 6lb test if I am feeling in the mood. Regards, Mike
  23. Welcome! The soft plastics suggestions are spot on. Patience is a virtue when it comes to summer fishing as I have found. When fishing as a non boater in my old club in FLA I always tried to go against the grain. The Veterans in the club had some of the "dumbest" techniques I thought but nevertheless produced the biggest and most numerous catches. Read up in the forums here....I am just getting back into Bass fishing and have "relearned" a great deal. Try to hook up with a local club or find some members here that fish in your area. I have done that and (thanks Rebasser!) have really given me alot to try and look forward to! Regards, Mike
  24. Welcome! If you havent been there already...go fish Eufala! My personal favorite of all lakes in the world. Took 3rd place in a tourney there back in '96 and LOVE THAT PLACE!
  25. WOW....GREAT POST! I havent hit the big 40 yet....next May if I live that long...LOL...... When I was in college I went skiing in Colorado in the springtime as a freshman.....SOAKED up the sun and unfortunately the next day my room mate woke up screaming. My face had 2 degree burns all over it and my eyes were painful. EVER since then I apply sunscreen religiously and always will. I also do the "personal body check" for things out of the ordinary. One thing that folks overlook is your EYES! Having undergone PRK surgery on my eyes I have learned about protecting one of your most valuable senses. WEAR SUNGLASSES AS WELL! ALL THE TIME! EVEN WHEN IN CLOUDY WEATHER! SUNSCREEN/CLOTHING/SUNGLASSES are a must!!!!!
