  1. LOL Guess Pacman will be the next booker t.
  2. Frogtog, I bet he is a Tarheel fan too. Just kidding ;D
  3. Nice looking family man. I was also going to add reason #3 for you The water right behind the house ;D
  4. If you have a mounted gps, I would get a backup handheld and extra batteries, and a map of the water you are fishing. Nothing sucks worse than your gps crapping the bed and not being real familiar with the area you are fishing.
  5. I have been told that the best way to prepare them is: Preheat your oven to 350 Place two fillets skin side down on a piece of hickory wood. Cover with onions, peppers and your favorite seasoning. Let it bake for 25 minutes Remove from oven, take fish off the wood and throw in the trash Eat the wood and enjoy. ;D
  6. With tonights hall of fame game football season has officialy begun. To those with NFL network I hope you enjoy. May your favorite team do well. May the CHARGERS take it to the house with a championship. Jeremy
  7. Jim, As an active duty Marine, I appreciate the post. However with all the different opinions on the war I can see where it could have gotten out of hand. LBH and Glenn came out and let you know it wasn't personal that it was just a touchy subject. I will say God bless your son and you for your genuine concerns for all of us on active duty. Jeremy
  8. LBH, Thanks I will be heading out to pick that stuff up. Hopefully next Fri or Sun I can get out for some bass.
  9. I think I know of the picture you are speaking of. Its a guy in his yak by a tropical island ( well some darn clear water anyway ) and there is about a 12-14 ft shark in trail. I know for one if it was me you would think there was a 250 merc on that yak cause I would be on plane and gone ;D
  10. Brad, With being new to bass fishing ( by new I mean just a few months) I would be looking for a good starter kit with a mix of different bait types. That way I could try new lures without having to go and spend a fortune. Or maybe put together a seasonal kit, for the different times of year. I will be looking for your kits soon.
  11. I know it may sound funny, but I have known people to troll spoons for cats on Kerr lake in NC/Va
  12. I am looking for some recommendations on tackle kits. I want to get a variety of lures and spend some time on each type until I get comfortable with them. I thought a variety kit may be useful. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I live in coastal NC so a lot of the water I fish is brackish. I also have a few man made resevoirs within a few hours that I fish. ie Kerr lake, Shearon Harris lake.
  13. Thanks for the reply, I believe it was a poplar tree
  14. Generally what is the concensus on how long you should wait to fish new cover. A local watering hole had a tree blow over. How much time should one give until you fish it.
  15. I will have to second/third or tenth for the beetle spin. In my young and short freshwater days its the first lure my dad bought me and it seemed like the fish would hit it as soon as it hit the water. The biggest bass I ever caught though was on a red shad culprit. Well maybe not classified as a catch. I was about 11 years old fishing with my buddy at his dads pond. I cast out and get a back lash. As I am pulling the birds nest out the line seems to get tighter and tighter. I set the hook and pull up a 4# bass. I sure wish they would just bit the hook like that today.
  16. Does that mean that the fish will be biting twice as good during the small hours?
  17. Truly a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families.
  18. Thanks for this post it really clears up a lot of confusion for me, along with your other post in the deep water fishing thread. I the biggest thing I need to tackle now is associating the features of the lake with a topo map. I can read maps, but some of things I think I am seeing on a map aren't there on the water. I think I am seeing now that my past fishing trips that I thought I had planned out really well were just gunnin and runnin. Maybe there is some hope for this jarhead.
  19. on top of what has already been posted extra bulbs for flashlight some type of signaling device
  20. Senile, I have a Garmin 160c. I usually go out to 12-18 ft of water and try to find a nice sloping point. I usually start fishing these with deep cranks. I have varied the retrieve speed and tried different color patterns. Once I have fished these a while I will go to a c-rig plastic and drag it down the point. The water I fished is clear and not much forage, but has rocks and stumps. I just don't seem to be able to catch a fish deep. I have tried about everything that I know, its probably just needing to spend more time at it. I usually go back to shallow after a couple of hours.
  21. Trying to find good structure that is holding fish. I never seem to be able to catch deep fish.
  22. You have received some great advice. I would really suggest saving as much as possible. I am only 27 , but I have had saving for retirement stressed to me as much as can be done. Besides retirement the more cushion you have as you get older the less stress you will have. I honestly remember being 14-15 and having that paycheck burning a hole in my pocket and laughing at everyone who told me to save and by no means am I suggesting to not enjoy yourself or reward yourself but you are never too young to think about your future.
  23. For the majority out there. How do you approach something not in your comfort zone. I just started bass fishing and I am not comfortable outside of say 6-8 ft . I have read and read and tried to apply, but it just doesn't seem to produce. I am getting frustrating with it, not to the point of giving up but to the point of questioning my interpritation of information. I know some days are better than others, but I am seeming to have no good days. I am comfortable with the shallow bass, but I have been told that the big uns aren't shallow in the summer months.
  24. Confucios say: Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day.
  25. I really haven't followed baseball since the strikes, but my personal opinion on it is the same as the babe ruth/ roger marris homerun deal. The game has changed, technology the number of games per season. Either way you look at it, its still a great accomplishment. It just doesn't seem to have the same meaning. I bet ole hank didn't take performance enhancing substances either.
