  1. I am a State fan and I know its almost sac religious but I was pulling for Duke. Guess now I will have to pull for ( it pains me to say this ) Carolina. I really thought Duke had it in the first half. On a side note I hope you are ready for college football. Not so sure it will be a good Pro season.
  2. x2 for the stalker bag. I bought one this past winter and I absolutely love it.
  3. My family will be taking a camping trip to Kerr lake this summer. I just got a new to me Bass Tracker PT 175. In the past I have just drug my jon boat up to the bank. With this boat I will be mooring it off of the camp site. My question is how much weight will I need on the moors and what is the best material to do this with? I didn't know if I could use cinderblocks or if I needed like 50 pound anchors to do this with.
  4. I'm glad you didn't take what I was trying to say the wrong way. I was by no means trying to discourage you, but being in your shoes I know it generally goes one of two ways. Either you settle for what you can afford and are not happy in the long run, or you go all out and have no money for anything else. I learned that the hard way and if I can pass along anything to you its that sometimes its better to wait. I have finally gotten out of my financial sitiuation, have money in the bank and have a new to me 2006 tracker in the drive way and its paid for. I am 30 now so it took time but I am happy and not in debt. If you want a boat, my best advice for you now would be to start with a jon boatlike slonezp said and add on as you can afford it.
  5. Lynyrdsky1, I have been following your posts on this for a little bit and have yet to comment. Let me say a few things to you. 1 you are a young guy and you seem to really think things through from what I can tell by your posts. I would give you this advice because I have been there and done that, made some really bad decisions and put myself and my family in a bad spot due to my desires. Figure an amount that you think you can afford, cut that by 30% to 40%. Things always come up. Stuff breaks and needs to be replaced. You may have to save longer to get what you want, but fiscally its the smart thing to do. The costs associated with owning a boat do not come down what you see in front of you. Figure anything and everything that can happen will happen ( Murphy's law) and they do. To me it's a toss up. Buy simple and upgrade as you go and as you can afford it, or wait and sve until you can afford exactly what you want. No matter what you have it will get old after a while and you will want more. I am not trying to discourage you from getting what you want, but I have been in your shoes ( a young guy) made some bad desicions and if I can pass anything along to anyone it will be to always think ahead on big purchases. Good Luck.
  6. I have the magazine, if you can send me your address I will mail it to you.
  7. Welcome aboard. I just left Lejeune I am now recruiting near Charlotte. You are in a good area for bass once you figure out the area. Look up some local clubs and join as a non boater. If you want some more specific info let me know.
  8. I agree with DVT's remark above. When I spool a BC reel with nothing but fluoro and then go back and put it on the rod, the last few loops often seem to try to "jump off" the reel. After placing the reel on the rod and tying on a lure, I always pull off some line to remove any slack from the spooled fluoro and then reel it back tight. I would almost bet that this is your issue. I have done that a few times after the backlashes. I would clear the nest out and then pull the line off down to the spool. Spray the KVD L and L on a rag and put tension on the line with my hand as I reeled it back tight. It just seems like during the cast the line is coming loose on the spool causing the birds nest. I am also thumbing the spool with my thumb. I guess I need to maybe adjust three of the brakes on my reel ( Citica) and try again, but that has always been too much for me in the past and severely limited the distance I could cast.
  9. Thanks for the replies, I will keep playing with the reel until I get it figured out. I am currently using 12# vanish.
  10. Good luck, let us know how you did. I imagine it will be more crowded than usual. I heard yesterday that the new VA state record blue cat was caught at Kerr ( as we North Carolinians call it) at 106 pounds. I will try to find a link for it. Updated with link http://www.catfish1.com/forums/attachments/f154/139940d1300401359-possible-new-state-record-blue-catfish-out-kerr-tony-milam-state-record-jpg It was actually 109 pounds.
  11. You have a few options from Goldsboro. The nuese river is a good fishery. You are only an hour from the coast there so depending on the time you will arrive I would try to get down for the spring runs. There are a few lakes within an hour or so drive. If you want more detailed info let me know.
  12. I recently switched to fluorocarbon on some of my baitcasters. I have tried adjusting the brakes and have had no success. Every other cast I am getting birds nest. I had no problems with mono on this setup. I have heard that fluoro is harder to cast. It seems that I can get a few solid casts after using some line condtioner. Any suggestions? I am getting frustrated seeing that I am wasting some pretty expensive line.
  13. Carfax is a start, but they are sometimes over rated. If something happens and it wasn't reported then the carfax is useless. I have heard of instances where someone gets in an accident and a shadetree mechanic fixes it up and the next owner has nothing but problems. I think the biggest thing to look for is a reputable dealer and don't jump on the first one that catches your eye. Comparative SHopping!
  14. I have been guilty of this in the past. This year not so much. I came to the realization that, 1. These guys spend a heck of a lot more time on the water than I would ever be able to. and 2. They are working directly with the manufacturers and I am almost posotive that while the baits they are throwing may have the same name ; they are more than likely 100% customized to the particular angler's desires. That being said if you buy them and have confidence in them, more power to you.
  15. Active Duty Marine Corps for the past 13 years. Good luck on your deployment.
  16. I don't get it either, I guess people feel that if they get their post count or stars up, that they are more important than the others. I like most could care less about that it's the value of the information.
  17. What time do the weigh-in's start?
  18. Nice fish, I would love to get up to Belews one day to fish, but don't know my way around the place. I am going to be fishing Norman, High Rock, Badin and Tillery this year.
  19. What species are you guys hunting in the salt. Most MH spinning rods6'6 will handle inshore species. If he has a medium freshwater setup it will handle what he wants, just require more maintenance. A lot of guys I used to fish with around the OBX would use cheap diawa combos and replace them yearly.
  20. I have two a 6'6 and 7'2. The 6'6 I have had no issues with. The 7'2 broke beneath the reel seat when I was holding it to lift a fish. I love the sensitivity, but I will not be purchasing another.
  21. I grew up close to you and my dad is from downtown Sanford, if worse come to worse. My dad works with a guy who repairs them. I can get you the info if you want it.
  22. I would say to look on CL or a local classifieds for someone who can repair. I tried to repair my sons gen 1 touch a few years ago and was really happy until it came to putting the push button back on. Needless to say he is a proud owner of a new touch. They are a pain in the rear to repair. I am not saying this to discourage you, just to let you know.
  23. I personally am a fan of anything with Clint Eastwood. There is one film that I love that wasn't on there that I am particulat to. The son's of Katie Elder (spelling) with John Wayne. I love that movie.
  24. I have been having this adult beverage on occasion for the past week or so. It has become my favorite. Didn't know about it til this year so I am not sure if its new or not. What are your guys thoughts?
  25. Thats cool and what its all about. I have heard Anna was one tough fishery anyway. I for one appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to help out deserving kids.
