  1. Laugh all you want...the "fish egg evaporation" phenomena is well documented...my father has witnessed this before and I've never known him to tell fish stories...well, maybe on occasion, but this wasn't one of them.
  2. Thanks for the help everyone, I will be less restrictive about fishing after storms in the future.
  3. I am still new to the weightless senko's and line watching...it is a work in progress for me, as I have always been taught to keep the line fairly tight to feel the bite. I feel I am getting better at leaving it loose and watching the line, but I still have problems with reeling up the slack and automatically setting the hook when I see something. Having read enough posts to see that it's the correct thing to do, it is merely a confidence issue with me I guess. It's always been so drilled into my head to tighten up the line and wait for the fish to run, that I'm always scared to swing and miss. As I said I'm working on it. Back to the line issue, I haven't found it that difficult so far to see the strike on my line...that's actually been a pretty easy transition. To me, wherever I am viewing the line at on top of the water, I can see the strike...it seems to me that when they hit it, the line reacts at all points in its length, but, echoing what another poster said, I have found it more difficult when the fish picks it up and runs toward the boat with it, especially if it's not completely calm on the water and the boat could be floating in.
  4. My father always told me that bass fishing after a thunderstorm was a bad idea. He said that the thunder and lightning drive the fish deep and that they don't feed well for a couple days after one. Is this true?? We had some decent thunderstorms on Tuesday night up here and I'm wondering how long I should wait to hit the lake again. Anyone have a preference on a particular lure to use after thunderstorms??
  5. The most exciting form of bass fishing in my opinion is night fishing with a jitterbug!! It is one thing to get a bite first thing in the morning on a senko or weighted plastic worm, but it is an entirely different adrenaline boost to be fishing in the middle of the night and hear the splash of a huge bass as it attacks your lure!! Just typing this makes me want to go out tonight with the old jitterbug.
  6. Any trip is perfect, with or without any fish, just being on the lake and relaxing with my son, my father, or a good friend...the fish are just an added bonus. To me, there is no better way to get rid of all the everyday stress, which makes each trip perfect.
  7. I already do...This site already has me looking for my next nice combo...I've altered my Father's Day list of things with my wife and kids about 3 times in the last week based on posts from this site.
  8. fatboy and fishin buds...thank you for the support!! jcrzy...I have not fished quantico creek or scoped it out at all...it seems incredibly shallow and full of vegetation to me...lots of better places to fish on the base in my opinion
  9. My son caught that bass on Smith Lake, it borders the base and Stafford...there are two ramps each accessed through the base. Good luck, stop and say hi if you see me out there. He caught it on a t-rigged electric grape tournament worm...lots of coaching on it as he was using a light spinning combo with 6 lb test
  10. Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum for weeks picking up all sorts of advice and info. I feel like I have improved my bass fishing knowledge immensely!! I finally registered if for no other reason so i can thank everyone who posts. I am a Marine stationed in Quantico, VA and finally have time to get back into my favorite hobby. I bought a little 10' 3" Bass Tender boat with a trolling motor and have been fishing the ponds on the base here. The last time I did any serious bass fishing it was texas rigged tournament worms with bullet slip sinkers. In the last two weeks I have gotten completely up to speed with the weightless senko worms solely on the info from your site. I hope to post regularly but just wanted to introduce myself and say thank you for all the info, it has helped me boat a few nice ones already, though my 10 year old son humbled me by catching this bass Sunday Evening. He's officially hooked for life now. I will start seeking advice from him.
