  1. What's a good bait casting rod for under $100? Also what size line would be good?
  2. I'm wondering the same thing... 8-)
  3. 6'6" to 7' MHF to HF rod, reel 6.2:1 upto 7.1:1 6'6" to 7' MF rod, reel 6.1:1 6'6" to 7' Med to MedHvy Mod tip rod, reel 4.8:1 upto 5.8:1Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!! Thanks. 8-)
  4. I plan on getting 2 different setups...one for t-rigs, c-rigs and jigs and the other for spinnerbaits. I'm really not sure what gear ratios and type of rods to use with these baits. Right now i'm using a shimano baitcaster (6:2:1 gear ratio) and a 6'6 medium - fast rod. This setup seems to work best with buzzbaits and crankbaits. What would you all recommend?
  5. I don't think there's any grass mats in the lake i fish Mostly open (murky) water that gets about 25 feet max. Also, there's alot of wood cover but most of it is close to shore at around 2-10 feet.
  6. What's the best way to approach these conditions? Time of day, lures, depth...etc Thanks 8-)
  7. That helps a little...but my jig heads are round and have a weed guard on them :-[
  8. I figure it out I have 4" tubes and 3/4oz. Jig head with the weed guard....any links or pics someone can post?
  9. Thanks for the tips!! I actually love smaller diameter lines. My main setup is a quantum ignition combo spooled with Trilene XL....i've switched my other reels to yo-zuri and love it....guess it's time to change the Trilene XL ;D
  10. I second that. 8-)
  11. Thanks for the hlep guys! I just happen to have the setup (spinning reel with 6lb trilene XL) that you guys recommended 8-)
  12. Thanks for the link! My confidence baits are spinner baits, inline spinners, buzz baits and any type of topwater lure. I just got into river fishing. Up here in NEPA we got some pretty good smallies (which is my favorite fish to catch) My problem with river fishing is basically what lures to use...i see alot of people throw weightless grubs and let the flow with the current....detecting a bite that way is also giving me some trouble. If RW can chime in and give me some tips that will be much appreciated
  13. Problem is, i don't have a backyard I usually go down to the river since it's 5 minutes walking distance from my house and practice there. I have no trouble with heavier lures except the occasional backlash. I'm really not sure how to set it up for lighter lures...should i turn off the anti-backlash or loosen the spool adjustment?
  14. The lakes and river in my area are pretty stocked with walleye....I know NOTHING about fishing for walleye. Can someone give me some pointers on the type of setup i need... Types of lures and techniques that work best... Best time/season to fish for them and just basically any info to help a beginner out. Thanks
  15. I just bought some Gamakatsu Finesse Widegap hooks the other day....i'll be trying out those senkos i hear everyone raving about. I'm confused on how to present the bait...do i work it slow like a weightless texas rig? :-?
  16. I can't count how many fish i've caught this year on a buzzbait....bass up here in NEPA slam them
  17. Hmm...i'm fairly new to baitcasters...i didn't try to turn the anti backlash off with light lures in fear of a huge birds nest. I can get great casts with heavey lures though...
  18. Yeah, i should of gave a little more info ;D I fish rivers for smallmouth (and sometimes musky, but that's a whole other topic) Usually on shore or with weighters (did i spell that right? lol) Most of my fishing time is spent in a boat on lakes stocked with largemouth and smallmouth. I don't feel like i have mastered any particular lure even though i've been fishing about 12 years. I would say that I'm very good with spinner baits and topwater lures....which is what i intend to use with this particular setup. So, i guess my question is... what ounce spinner bait and topwater lures would you recommend for a MF rod and baitcasting reel loaded with 12lb line. Sorry for any confusion...i'm not good with words :-/
  19. Here's the deal, I'm gonna stock up on some new lures this weekend....specifically for my Shimano baitcaster. I have it setup with 12lb hybrid with a MF 6'6 rod. What weight lures should i be looking for? Most of my lures are 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8...i can kinda get a decent cast with a 3/8 lure...but i wanna get the most out of my setup and i'm thinking the right weight lures will help. Any advise will be much appreciated. 8-)
  20. Hey, sorry for hi-jacking the thread, but, i was planning on getting one this weekend. What weight would you recommend for MF rod with a baitcasting reel spooled with 12lb hybrid? 8-)
  21. I'll be wacky rigging a senko. I have 2/0 off shank hooks and 2/0 short shank hooks....can i use one of these or do i need a different hook? That is all
  22. OK. When you buy soft plastics like senkos, powerworms and such, do you leave them in the bag or put them in a plastic utility box. Reason why i'm asking is because a bunch of ziplock style bags seem to take up take up more space.
  23. I never used the stuff but see alot of different brands out there. What works best for you, and how often do you spray your lure?
  24. Texas and Carolina rigging soft plastics and jigs. I'm not really sure what rod, reel and line would work best for this stuff...12, 14, 20 lbs line ? :-/ (baitcasting reel preferred )
