Years ago my father and I were fishing on a golf course lake in Louisville, Kentucky. It was early March, spitting sleet, and bitterly cold.
Dad pointed to some golfers on the other side of the lake and shook his head. "Can you believe those idiots are out there playing golf in this weather?"
I have a question for those of you who fish out of a bass boat alone. How do you go about launching the boat by yourself? I assume you attach a line to the bow eye. Where do you attach the other end? To your truck? To the trailer?
I drove up to Louisville last week and pulled my late father's old Bass Tracker Tournament TX back to Tallahassee. It's at the shop getting the carbs rebuilt, so it will be a week or more before I get it back. In the meantime I have been going over in my mind how I will launch it by myself so I don't look too foolish out there the first time.
Shakespeare 1969 baitcaster. I was too poor back in 1969 to afford an Ambassadeur so I bought this one and put it on a Fenwick Lunker Stik. Both of them really stunk up the joint.
Yeah, that happens to me when I chew tobacco too.
Don, do you have a camera set up on a tripod in your boat? I fish alone most of the time and don't have anyone to take my picture when I catch a fish.
Never sit next to your girlfriend a a BASS tournament weigh-in. Your wife might just surprise you and watch the weigh-in on television.
Oh, wait a minute. That one's not a myth.
I'm glad YOU have to fillet them. I told my wife last night that there are a lot of crappie in the lake I have been fishing lately and asked her if she would like for me to catch a mess for dinner. She declined. I was grateful for that 'cause I hate cleaning fish.
I'm going to pick up my Dad's old Bass Tracker this weekend. I would like to have an on-board charger installed on the boat. Is this something an amateur can easily do.
The boat has one cranking battery and one battery for the electronics. If I understand correctly I should get a two bank charger.
This is a situation where I don't know what I don't know. Any advise would be appreciated.
It's funny how the perspective is different from one group to another. I recently discovered a fishing newgroup based in the Florida Big Bend. I was amazed to see pictures of guys with stringers of big dead bass. In my first post to the group I gently chided them, reminding them of a line my father used to use: Bass fishing is a whole lot like basketball. It's hard to get up a game tomorrow if you kill all the losers today.
Man! You would have thought I had called their pick-up truck ugly and their dog gun-shy. I'm not very welcomed there any more, which is OK since a lot of the guys are pretty racist and the moderators don't seem to care.
When fishing gets really tough I take a ribbontail worm and put it on a 1/8 oz jig head and just swim it slowly. It isn't fancy, but I catch fish on it.
I wouldn't bet against Fritts, given the situation. The winner is going to have to cover a lot of water to locate those scattered, suspended fish.
This is a tough time for a tournament, but you know that the winner is going to be worthy of the big paycheck.
I bought a five year Florida fishing license a few years ago. It came with a apckage of goodies that included a Hover Lure. I sent it to my nephew in Kentucky and told him that we were just slaying the great ol' big 'uns on it.
I hate seeing people who obviously don't know anything about fishing try to market their gimmicks.

She looks so sweet. It looks like you are off to a good start. Those are genuine smiles. I'll keep you, and her, in my prayers.

You boys have just about talked me into it.
About my Dad: When I was a teenager my Dad and I had no interests in common and barely spoke to each other. We both took up bass fishing at about the same time, and those days in the boat together became the catalyst for developing a friendship that lasted until the day he died.
My avatar is a picture of Dad with the biggest bass he ever caught, 9 pounds and 8 ounces out of Lake Jackson here in Tallahassee. He released it.
