  1. I came in the computer room last night to find my wife wiping away tears. She showed me the article. I could see why it upset her so. That little guy could be our grandson's twin.
  2. I thought it was either angels or Ricky Skaggs. I would have been OK with either one.
  3. We buried my Aunt Mary Monday. At the end of the funeral Mass her son played his guitar and sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain". When he got to the refrain I could hear this fabulous harmony just like in the video. Problem was, I couldn't see that any of the other choir members were singing. After a while I noticed that he was stepping on a switch at the beginning and end of each refrain. He was turning on a "harmonizer" that turned his voice into three-part harmony. Man, technology is cool.
  4. I was driving from Tallahassee to Kentucky Saturday and stopped in that BPS store. I slipped behind the curtain and got to watch Denny Brauer do a presentation about, of all things , flipping and pitching. I learned more from that presentation than I could have imagined. I got tickled at Denny telling how he had eaten lunch with Bill Dance and Roland Martin earlier in the day. "Man, I have admired those guys ever since I was a little boy."
  5. I thought that the remarkable thing was that the winner won it catching shoal bass way up the Flint River. If I can get a kitchen pass and the weather cooperates, I will fish Seminole this weekend.
  6. I have always used RatLTraps and Spots pretty much interchangeably. I tried an Aruku Shad last year and caught a lot more fish with them.
  7. I was heading North on I-65 in Alabama last Saturday and a Gold Wing that same color was heading South. I could see that bike forever. It really impressed me that the color stood out so much. I have entirely too many hobbies, so I have cut back on some. I still do a lot of bicycling and my garage is full of woodworking equipment which I actually get to use once in a while.
  8. Are you hunting with dogs? The temperature isn't that bad, but I wonder how the sleet will affect the dogs' ability to track. I used to raise beagles and loved rabbit hunting. That was back in the day when deer were few and far between back in Kentucky. By the mid 1980s deer became so common that my dogs spent more time running deer than rabbits.
  9. Anything but Starbucks. Why anyone would burn their coffee beans is beyond me.
  10. From the Gander Mountain Web site: What ever happened to the Gander Mountain catalog? Gander Mountain sold its catalog business in April of 1996, and the buyer subsequently closed it down. At the same time, retail operations were sold to Holiday Companies. We are sorry, but Gander Mountain no longer carries a catalog of its products. We are, however, adding new store locations all the time. Visit our Store Locator there may be a new store near you. Can I order Gander Mountain merchandise on-line? We are working toward entering the direct selling business and look forward to selling hunting, fishing and camping products on our website in the future. Unfortunately we don't offer on-line merchandise or catalog sales at this time.
  11. I started watching it, remembering how much I loved Lonesome Dove. After about 20 minutes it was just too painful to continue and I turned it off.
  12. I'm still fishing out of a 1984 Bass Tracker and it is solid. Check the transom and the decks to be sure they haven't rotted. Sounds like a good deal.
  13. My 1999 Mazda B2500 is a rebadged Ranger. I have 138,000 miles on it and it still runs very well. I will buy a six cylinder, extended cab Ranger or Mazda when this one gives up the ghost.
  14. I pull a 17' Bass Tracker with my four cylinder Mazda B2500 with an automatic. I wouldn't try to pull anything larger.
  15. I have another one: At my age, I still remember how to fish... and can.
  16. Texas doesn't require blaze orange while hunting on private land.
  17. One of the ladies I work with has a purse made by Rawlings. She was not aware that they make baseball gloves. Robert, You carried a Louis Vuitton briefcase!? Please tell me it didn't have that logo all over it like the purses do. :-[
  18. Best I can recall, Burning Man is equal parts beer, left-handed cigarettes, and nekkid people (most of whom should have kept their clothes on.)
  19. My wife cashed in some of her wife points a couple of weeks ago and had me go see Enchanted with her. I tried to get her to go with one of the daughters, but she wanted me to go with her. I have to say, I was tickled at the movie. It's Disney making fun of the Disney fairytale princess movie genre.
  20. Having grown up in Kentucky and spent years being called hillbillies by folks from Ohio, I am rooting for LSU or anyone else that plays the Buckeyes.
  21. Opera- Latin for death by music Here's my rant about opera: I don't want to hear power in a singing voice. I want to hear beauty and I don't hear beauty in opera. All I hear are melodramatic, vocal calisthenics.
  22. What about that "Sierra cement" I recall reading people complain about? Looks like the avalanche patrol guys are going to be busy.

  24. Going to babysit the grandson so my daughter and her husband can go to a movie to get his mind off the drubbing that Florida State is probably going to get from Kentucky this afternoon.
  25. Thank goodness my little grandson insisted on watching Blues Clues when his father turned The Christmas Story on yesterday. I think the room would have emptied except for my son-in-law if we had to be exposed to it one more time.
