i share the same views as btlva on this one. i think its no more unethical to keep a bass than it is to keep an aquarium fish. but i can see how it could get pretty expensive though....

just went on tackle tour and those are the hooks that they reccomend.

not sure if it was covered in that big article cuz i didnt take the time to read it, but you might also want to try those ewg hooks with the weight molded on the bend. that will definitley keep them upright.

what me is that i cant twitch it downward. i fish from a v-hull jonboat so the hull that i stand on is below water level a little and the high walls prevent me from jerking down. or i will fish from the shore and that can be hard to twitch downward too. how can i walk without twitching downward? hope i didnt just thread jack :-[

like frogtog said easy come easy go. just remember what you were doing and keep doing that. same goes for if you land it. whenver you get a hit, remember how you got it and keep doing that. sometimes, if you lose the fish quick into the battle you can cast to the same spot and it will still be there and usually immdiatley hit your lure. the other day i scared a tiny bass out of the shallows so i casted to the direction it went and sure enough i got hit i was using an UL rod so i couldnt set the hook. i repeated this 4 more times before the fish wouldnt bite it anymore.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh talk that talk dssavedra.......... haha youre pretty gangster but seriously! thats what i was doing! i could feel the weeds hitting the lure thru my braided line its real sensitive...it rocks...dont make fun of me :'( haha j/k ;D but yeah thats good advice i'll do that next time. but half the time he wont want to change lures or something like that or he wont put on what i have when im catching bass. he's kinda hardheaded when it comes to that like sometimes i will be a crankbait day and i'll tell him but he'll go fishing a big ole 7" yum dinger on the botom. but it usually ends up him catching less but him getting the bigger one.

yea i pretty much figured it wouldnt be best for cranks. i do OK w/ cranks on my current M/F but like micropterus said, ya gotta be real gentle.

i saw these and i was wondering: what are they for what do they do do they simulate a single hook (like a worm hook) so that fish dont come unbuttoned as often? what would happen if i replaced the trebels on my crank with small wide gap worm hooks? would i be able to use a stiffer rod with it?

thank you tyrius. : yea i have a pack of 7" yum dingers and my dad has caught some pretty nice fish on those...i dont like them tho...but he has more patience than me (must be an old timey thing :) j/k. here are some fish he caught on the 7" worm, i think they were both around 18": that second one was a little bigger and that thing fought like no tomorrow. when he hooked it it fought for a little and then just hunkered down to the bottom. his rod was at a steady bend all the way to the middle and the line was dead still. I thought he was snagged but he insisted it was a fish. he wasnt doing anything and niether was the fish. it was like that for about 30seconds. then i grabbed his line with my finger and gave it a little tug and it tugged back HARD then the fish slowly tired out and was landed.

on this page for daiwa rods (and practically every other rod they make) some of the rods have the action and its letter is R. what is this? ive heard of like F, EF, MF M, MS, S but never R. anyone have a clue? http://daiwa.com/Rod/detail.aspx?ID=81

thanks everybody. its weird, we'll be fishing in the same boat with similar lures, and he can never catch anything...he always gets frustrated and today he said he didnt want to fish anymore till spring unless he catches some bass next time we go. im gonna take him to the farm pond for some action....

rubber skirted bass jigs ususaly imitate crawfish or something else tasty on the bottom, bucktail jigs usually imitate something along the lines of a minnow, so do float n' fly jigs. if you dont know what a float n fly jig is, its a small light jig (as pictured) that you put under a bobber and fish suspended in the water colomn. then there are bare jig heads where its just a hook w/ a lead head. you usually put somekind of soft plastic on these (curly tail jig, small minnow lookin thing, crawfish soft plastic...) and you just use the jig for casting weight and to sink the bait to desired depth.

they pretty much covered it on the reels. if its a crankbait rod, use it for stuff w/ trebel hooks. for stuff with a single hook, get a stiffer rod.

ok i figured it would be the right one. is it just me or do M powers on casting rods seem stiffer than a M power on a spinning rod? my jigs arent heavy, i like strike kings baby boo.

well i got lots of fishing in this weekend. yesterday i talked my mom and dad into taking me to the park for some fishing. my dad only caught one bass and i caught 4. the biggest being 10" the smallest being 7". That 7 incher is my new personal best smallest bass so anyway that day wasnt great. but today got out this morning in the boat and i caught a 14"er, on a jointed rapala, then i caught this monster 19.5" 3.5lb bass on a DT6 ticking the tops of weeds. after that i caught one about 8" trolling to a new location, and at the location i caught another bass about 10" my dad caught nothing. so all in all i guess it was an OK weekend. that 3.5lber made it worth while. that was one of the hardest fighting bass ive had.

is a M power with F action casting rod good for weightless plastics, mainly senkos, jigs, and spinnerbaits? the ratings on it are 1/8-1 ounce.

is there a way i can check on the poll results? anyway, i think im gonna go with the daiwa. i will mainly be using weightless soft plastics and small jigs on it. so i would get a 7' M witha Fast tip.

that is exactly what i was talking about. the point isnt in line w/ the rest of the hook. those are for live baits? i had a pack that had the offset thing at the eye to hold on a plastic worm. i didnt like those hooks too much...
