  1. paul, it looks like you were using a fluke type bait....whenver i use UL tackle on bass w/ single hook soft baits, i sometimes cant get a hookset on them. half the time i do hook and land them (ton of fun...makes a 15"er feel like a 20"er), but alot of times there just isnt enough backbone in an UL rod to set the hook. How do you do it? do you need to let them have the bait a little longer or what? thanks!
  2. LPT is my favorite scent. i need a bottle of that stuff man.
  3. try to give her something shes never seen before. look closely at what others are fishing, and fish the total opposite of that. if they dredge the bottom w/ jigs non stop, then try a crankbait or vice versa. if everyone is throwing spinnerbaits, then try using a crankbait, or even a finesse tactic....just whatever you do try to be unique. maybe you could use a common lure but use it in a different way....use your imagination...just try everything.
  4. ive said it before and i'll say it again...PAUL YOU DA MAN!!!! i love reading your posts. they are so exciting. i also like how you can just say "oh i think i'll go catch a lunker today" and then you actually do! keep em comin' man!
  5. WAY TO GO!!! THAT MUSTA BEEN AWESOME! glad you went back and got er. looks like a 6 to me. nice n long. c'mon now...7 foot medium? thats not ultralite! lol. still must have been sure fun to fight that fish though. ive never had a topwater explosion before but i'll bet that was one to remember! keep it up!
  6. way to go avid!!! nice to see a full pic of you and the fish and to see you smiling ;D what an awesome day...i wish i could have a few like that. keep it up!
  7. thanks for the good word. and just so you know, i didnt make the rubber jigs, i bought them
  8. fish4fun, none of the DT's are good for plowing thru weeds. no lure except weedless rigged soft baits are good for plowing thru weeds. they will allllll catch weeds. if you must fish weeds w/ crankbaits, try to determine the depth where the tops of the weeds are. if the tops of the weeds are 5' below the surface, then put on a DT4, so that it will just barely reach the top of the weeds. if the weeds are very sparse, then you could brave it out and just fish a DT marked at the depth of the weeds and just run it thru the open spaces in the weeds.
  9. hah! then i guess my jigs werent good : lol im not too worried about it ;D
  10. thats exactly what ive been quietly thinking to myself thru this entire paddle tail craze. its not like they are anything new...just a slightly different body shape. look at saltwater fisherman, they've been using swimshads for as long as ive been around. i just dont see what all the hype is about...besides the colors.
  11. i say anything 14 inches and smaller. above that they are fun to catch and can sometimes have a little weight to them if they been eatin good. haha i like that "skidder" concept, i think i might have to use that one ;D
  12. goose, sticks, leaves, knife, huge mesh minnow trap (the size of a 55gal. drum) that sucker took me half an hour to get to shore from about 15 ft away on 50lb test., tarp, grocerey bags, various turtles including a massive snapper that broke my brand new lure, countless tangles of old fishing line, and this is the most common thing ive caught that isnt fish: WATER!!! ;D
  13. hah! that was so good ;D was that a parody of carrie underwoods song "jesus take the wheel"? (ps. thats a nice "10lb shiny bass" that they caught....maybe 10 inches! )
  14. hahaha thats great! thanks for posting ;D ;D ;D
  15. ive noticed that flat silicone stays put under the o-ring better. ive had a few round rubber jigs before and the strands were always slipping out or getting uneven.
  16. the DT Sureset just have better colors IMO. i really like pearl grey shiner color though. its a veryyy nice color. i havent noticed very much difference in hooking abilities w/ the sure set hooks. if there is any difference between regular VMC's and the Suresets, the suresets do hook and hold a little bit better. i say go ahead and get the suresets and see if you like em. normal DT's (including sureset) have a moderate wobble, DT FLATS (including sureset) have a tighter wobble, and DT FATS (including sureset) have a wider wobble.
  17. any rapala lures are good and will work. some specific lures are jointed shad rap original floater any DT's some must haves for me are: lunker city ozmo yum dingers river2sea v-joint min wake rapalas mattlures minnows bandit footloose and as always: GIFT CARDS!!!!
  18. florida, california, georgia, tennessee, texas. pretty much anywhere in the southeast will have big bass (with the exception of california...its on the west coast but has some giant bass).
  19. Eagle Cuda 168 Portable Fish Finder. do you all think this would be a nice choice to put in a jon boat that doesnt have a trailer and gets treated roughly? i figure i'd need a portable since i drag it on the ground, throw it in the pickup, store it upside unprotected in the woods. anyway, how is the product itself? is it nice? worth the 100 bucks? it got all perfect reviews on bass pro. would it be a good investment for the weekend anglers (my dad and myself) to help us get to know the areas we fish? link: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_75236_200001001_200000000_200001000_200-1-1 thanks for all of your input guys. (paul {hawg caller} dont you have a cuda? how do you like it?)
  20. The camo suffix seige looks like it uses 3 or 4 different tones, so it should work very well
  21. you're welcome good luck w/ the camo line. ive never used factory camo'd line, i always camo my line myself.
  22. Gizoogle, for all of you with a ghetto sense of humor ;D
  23. i dont think it does much at all, but like fourbiz said, if anything it will help because of less light. just be sure not to run into anything in your boat ;D
  24. thats some cool stuff right there. crayons are my favorite ;D i love going to youtube and just searching on high speed footage, slow motion, slow motion bullets, stuff like that. there is some pretty cool footage.
  25. man i need to get into swimbait fishin. how do you think swimbaits would fare in maryland?
