  1. i fish a small, shallow farm pond frequently, and Rapala DT Fat 03 is a killer bait in there. i fished a pretty good sized pond today, and the top producer was an *** *** jr. in camo clolor. it caught my dad 9 bass and me 5 bass.
  2. I made an entry for maryland!!!
  3. yup yup yup, you need to use square billed cranks or coffin billed cranks. i have found that square billed work a little better for bouncing off stuff. two great lures to invest in are: Rapala DT Fat and Rapala DT Flat. the fat has a square bill and its a very fat bodied balsa lure. the flat has a coffin bill and is a very flat bodied balsa lure. a nice sensative rod will aid in the crashing technique, for the sole purpose that you will know exactly when you hit something. when you feel the bump of hitting something, just stop, and let your crankbait float. if you know there is very little chance of snagging the object (like a smooth rock) then you might even want to jerk your lure forward and then stop it. what i do is i will run my crank into whatever is around....the bottom, stumps, trees, rocks... but i try to stay away from brush. brush (at least my interpretation of the word "brush) is like a bush w/o leaves...tons of thin scraggly branches shooting out in all directions. since this isnt really a very "solid" target, there is alot of open space between the thin branches, it is easy to snag in. when im fishing brush, i will usually either put the crankbait down and pick up a worm, or just fish the crank around the edges of the brush. you will get snagged a lot less if you hit more solid targets like stumps or trees (that dont have tons of scraggly branches) and rocks. the cranks will just bounce off to the side of these. bottom line is just keep things erratic. this is what will keep the bass interested in your lures. most pepole will be mechanically dragging their lures in open water for fear of snagging. dont be like other people...fish it in the nasty stuff where the bass actually live hope this helped....GOOD LUCK!!!!
  4. well if you have gin clear water that is a big help. depends on what the bottom is like. usually the beds will be round crater looking things on the bottom. most of em are around 2 feet across...but that varies. they are usually either lighter or darker than the surrounding bottom. some of the beds i saw today were light around the edges but had dark in the middle...i think these were abandoned beds and sediment filled in the middle, because i didnt see any fish on those beds. the beds that i saw fish on were all lighter than the surounding bottom. you will usually see at least one fish hanging on or near the bed. today i saw beds with 5 fish on them.
  5. my biggest bass (7lbs) imediatley bolted for deeper water when i caught it in 1 foot of water spawning. my second biggest bass (6lbs) was also caught in a goot of water spawning, but it was much closer to me and it spent most of the time thrashing like crazy around the nest.
  6. a bait shop eh? that looks more like around 7.5lbs to me....
  7. great hawgs!!! i love spawn fishing for that reason...you can see the fish and watch how they react to your baits. that looks like a killer pond too!!!!
  8. i would think it does keep the others out, but like others have said, he could have found a better place to hang them. perhaps you should talk to the farmer about it and see if he could take them down and put em somewhere else.
  9. thanks guys. that fish is my 2nd personal best, and my 1st best came from the same pond too! ;D
  10. Official entry for: MARYLAND 22 inches long, 15 inches girth, 6lb 3oz. caught on a bed w/ a custom painted lipless crankbait.
  11. my bass: 6lb 3oz md state record: 11lb 2oz 6.1875/11.125=55.62
  12. look what i caught on this lure this morning! i just plopped it on the bed and twitched it and nailed her.
  13. well my dad and i went out for some spawn fishing today. i got there and a few casts later i hooked up with a dink.... a few casts after that i hooked up with a real hawg on its bed, but i was fooling with a tangle in my line so i couldnt get a good hookset and the fish was off after a very brief fight. my dad caught two dinks right after that, and then it was about 30-45 minuts without a bite. i moved locations and caught 3 dinks on consecutive casts. my dad came over to where i was and we didnt catch any more. then we moved over to the eastern end of the pond and fishing started getting awesome! my dad got a dink or two, but i didnt get anything. then we walked a little further up the bank and i spotted a big ole female and male on a bed. my dad casted his *** baby *** on the bed and the male just nailed it... that was his biggest fish of the day. a little further up the bank from that bed there was another with about 3 or 4 really good sized fish. we pestered those for for well over 20 minutes. then i decided to fish my lipless crankbait that i just refinished (bluegill pattern) and i plopped it right on the bed. i saw the biggest female suck it up and spit it out of the bed. i tried again a few times. a few casts later she sucked it up again and i set the hook!!!! this was a very powerful fish i tell you what. length, 22". girth, 15". according to my scale it was 4lbs 9oz. but it was a whole lot heavier than that. i used the formula g2*l/800 and the fish turned out to be 6.1875lbs, or 6lbs 3oz. this felt like a 6lb fish, so im trusting the forumla on this one. it was great that i caught that on my own paintjob. after that it was pretty much non sotp action with dinks. my dad ended up with 11 bass (all dinks except the big male he got) and i ended up with 6 bass (all dinks except the big female) and a catfish.....catfish are yucky ;D.
  14. thanks guys! the bait is a bagley baitfish, and i just refinished it to look like a bluegill
  15. that would be nice, and for each post in that thread we could say something like "OFFICIAL ENTRY FOR: MARYLAND:" and then put our picture up.
  16. i have a fly rod and i barely ever use it. but it is quite fun to fly fish for bass and panfish. i never did catch a bass on it though... i mainly tie flies. i usually dont end up fishing with them though.
  17. i have to disagree with you muddy. i think that being able to know how to tie and be able to tie a wide array of knots off the top of your head is being versatile. perhaps "versatile" is not the best word choice, but what i mean by it is that you are expanding your knowledge. in other words, not confining yourself to only knowing one knot, but knowing several different knots for different applications. are ya following me?
  18. Just as a point of clarification the best to worst classification above is opinion. Other people have the opinion that the snap and the knot are equal (ie there is no difference) and therefore tie a palomar to the snap and snap to the crank. yup they sure are opinions i ordered em that way because i feel that he would be better off to learn the knots to become more versatile in his fishing instead of taking the "short cut" and using a snap. just my opinion...dont want any conflict
  19. do we even have memebers from Alaska and Hawaii? this might be a difficult task to complete in the time you have alotted.
  20. first time i saw that it was on some funny website w/ funny pics, and they were all arranged in thumbnails, and i thought those were full sized people until i clicked it to enlarge it!!! very funny picture ;D!
  21. ok i gotcha. well i'll participate for maryland. arent you supposed to put up a picture of your bass?
  22. dont be ashamed at all!!!! i happen to dislike rooster tails in particular (cant ever get em to spin) but i LOVE LOVE LOVE blue fox vibrax minnow spins. i have caught countless bass, bluegill, and crappie on them. i have a few in every color and size. i may just bring my ultralite and fish the biggest size i have. how great would it be to land a 5 pound plus bass on an ultralite w/ 6lb test!!! well im going fishing tomorrow and i will try these suggestions and let you know how things went.
  23. i dont know much about anything on this subject, but if i read correctly (and you typed correctly) that tiny 3/4 acre pond is 25 feet deep!?!?!?!?!? thats incredible. i wouldnt be suprised if you snagged a dead cow when bottom fishing in there. ;D
