  1. many of you have said "find the fish and the fish will tell you what they want". i have a problem with this. if do not hook any bass, you have no success to build off of, so you cant find what is working. take this example. you are in a small lake, you are throwing a crank. you spend 10 min in this one cove, nothing. so you move to the next cove, nothing. you continue this until you cover the entire lake with no bites at all. well the fish have to be in there somewhere, so it is inevitable that you have "found fish" you just dont know where. how will you know what the fish want if you have no feed back from them? hope my little example wasnt too confusing. ;D
  2. i have always had REALLY crappy luck after bad weather. hope you have a good trip!
  3. you could take a sheet of latex (from a rubber glove or something) and cut it into a strip that would fit and then glue it onto the peg and then cut the latex into a skirt w/ scisors. or you could go to a craft store and find a sheet of this really thin leather (my local Michael's has it) and do the same with that. get creative!
  4. there are also a bunch of videos on youtube explaing how to rig tubes (and several other baits).
  5. shimano citica hands down. get them while they are on sale (usually 120...85 is a GREAT deal). they are worth every penny...trust me. http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SCIT.html
  6. those are good colors to start with. you can texas rig them weightless, or with a bullet weight. there are also tube heads, which is basically a jighead that slides in the tube and the eye pops out the top of the tube and the hook comes out the back where the skirt is.
  7. my friend was telling me abotu something like this at school. except the one he told me about wasnt betting on sports, it was getting a bunch of refferals to click on ads for you. it really seems like its not worth the time....
  8. hahaha the look on the carp's face is priceless!!! looks like hes saying "OH #$%& !!!!"
  9. thats a good idea. i might try that if i find im missing a lot of fish.
  10. those are all registered to stay there with ny city.we have to leave the boats locked at the reservoir. welllllll...nobody has to know
  11. thats awesome! glad you had a great day! take some pictures next time .
  12. 7lbs. april 29, 2007. 7:30 am.
  13. that lake looks absolutley awesome! glad you had a fun outing. ps. you wanna hook me up with one of those random piled up jonboats?
  14. i've really been paying attention to my line lately and really getting in touch with my lure and whats going on down there. i use braided line so its pretty visible on the surface of the water. i have found there are VERY distinct feelings for each thing your bait encounters underwater. it is difficult to explain, but i will try to type what i feel. i experience all of this when im fishing weigtless, t-rigged plastics. when im pulling it through weeds, it feels kinda crunchy. cant really explain it better than that, crunch. imagin pulling your figners through very tangly hair. kinda like that. i can always tell when my lure is about to hit a piece of rock or wood because i can feel my line scraping over it. braid is very textured so i can feel my line against hard objects. i will feel the vibration from the line and then it will just stop and i know my bait has hit the piece of cover. then i just ease the bait over it and continue. gravel feels like a bunch of constant teeny taps, while mud feels like constant stickyness, like something is dragging your lure. the most important thing i have found out when im fishing plastics is that if i am moving my rod and i feel something that feels like a hit, 90% of the time its not a hit. its just me pulling the bait into/through something. however, if im not moving the rod or reel and i feel a tap or see my line move at all, it is a fish of some sort, and i'll let em have the bait for a few seconds, reel in the slack, and set the hook hard. hope that helps you distinguish some stuff. PS. dont worry about what the other guys say, just do what feels right to you. good fishin!
  15. yeah im definitley getting a college degree. i never could understand why some people dont even bother finishing highschool. it is so important! life will suck without a good education. :
  16. Sam those are great tips! i will definitley try those. dead sticking sounds interesting. lol! i have done it with trick sticks before and it is usually pretty productive.
  17. what i used to do is spool on mono and leave enough room for twice the distance of your best cast. then spool the rest with braid.
  18. THROW EM EVERYWHERE! throw DT3's and 4's along the flats, DT6's, 7's, and 10's along the drop off, and DT16's at the bottom of the drop off. use the cranks like a search tool and locate the fish, and then fish at the depth the fish are biting.
  19. i think i'll fish the whole worm rigged normal on a 4/0 and if i find im missing alot of strikes i'll cut some off.
  20. i was rummaging thru my plastics collection today and found a pack of these: http://www.touchdownlures.com/1012moomauworm.html they look very unique. that tail must put out a hella action. im gonna try to fish em tomorrow and let you know how i do. i think they will do pretty well.
  21. That is probably what I'm leaning toward, if I go with the 100 I'll get the 6'6" MM and if I go with the 200 D I'll go ahead and get the 7' MF. Thanks. Also, is Ugly Stik a good brand? yeah the 200 fits perfectly on a 7 footer, and the 100 fits perfectly on a 6 and a half footer. but dont base your rod specifications on what i use. for example, i got a 7' MF (medium power, fast action) because i wanted a rod that would excel in fishing weightless texas rigged plastics. i got a 6'6" MM (medium power, medium action) because i wanted a rod with a lot more flex so that i could fish crankbaits more efficiently. choose your rod specs. based on the types of fishing YOU will be doing. as for the ugly stik question...the short answer is no. they are not sensative, they are very heavy, and they are not very stiff (which is not always a bad thing) making hooksets difficult. if you are looking for a rod in the price range of an ugly stik, i reccomend a berkley lightning rod or shimano clarus. these are the best rods in that price range IMO.
  22. my best advice for mono is to can it and switch to braid!
  23. thanks so much! you guys are a great help. how do you determine all that stuff?
  24. well the biggest hooks i have are 4/0, and i wont be able to get any bigger size hooks between now and tomorrow. are there any tips to help me land fish on a 10" worm using a 4/0 hook?
  25. k thanks for the advice. im pretty excited about using these 10inchers. i know very well that this pond holds a good population of 5lb + bass, which is very big for my area (at least for me it is...) and im hoping by upsizing my baits i will catch a few of these pigs. im gonna check out the fishing article library and see if they have any tips on fishing supersized worms.
