  1. ok. thanks for the replies. the people on tackle underground (tackle making forum) said this wouldnt be good for the drill, and they reccomend getting some kind of motor made to be operated at slow speeds under load for a long time, like a rotisserie motor or microwave turntable motor. im gonna see if i can scrounge up a 6RPM rotisserie motor for really cheap.
  2. 3 ways: 1: nip it in the butt and solve the problem before it starts. DONT LET THE FISH GO IN THE GRASS! just horse it in above the grass. 2: use 30-50lb braid, it will not break and it will cut thru the grass pretty nice. 3: give the fish slack and hope it will swim its way out.
  3. hookem, your pic doesnt work, and Tin, STFU!!! ;D
  4. how many inches of the rod would be lost if you just trimmed it to the next guide? same thing happened to one of my ultra light rods, and i just trimmed it to the first guide. i only lost about 3 or 4 inches, and the rod works fine. if its a rod you dont really care about, trim it, if not, buy a guide replacement kit from the walmart fishing section. it will be a little package of 3 tips and a red tube of rod glue. they are pretty cheap. here is one made by Fuji for only 6 bucks. not sure if the ones at walmart are Fuji though, but they look exactly like this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_16514?cm_mmc=froogle-_-100-4-12-_--1-_-38-374-092-00&hvarAID=froogle&mr:trackingCode=C4199CE4-953C-DD11-98CA-001422107090&mr:referralID=NA and if you do get the rod tip repair kit, i dont reccomend that you use the "hot melt glue". i have found it kinda difficult to use. i just put a dab of 5 min epoxy in the rod tip with a toothpick and a little bit on the rod itself and slid the tip on. did this on my fly rod when my mom sucked it up in the vacuum and it works like new.
  5. wow i would have never thought of this being a crankbait rod. thanks guys!
  6. thanks flechero, thats the rod i have. except mine must be older or something because it doesnt have blue threads, it has greyish-red threads. why doesnt it list the power or action on the rod? are there any other companies that do this? and why do you think its a typo?
  7. i hate stale green lights
  8. ok. so, theoretically, if i were to catch a 30lb bass on a texas rig, i wouldnt have to catch a fish on a frog or crankbait but i could still win the contest. lol...i wish : ;D
  9. yes that is exactly what i wanna use this for. so you guys arent joking with me, it really wont hurt the drill?
  10. Dremel tool cutting wheel should leave a nice clean cut. i have never done it, but if i was gonna do it, thats what i'd use. i'd remove the cork with a razor and pliers, and then cut the grahite with the dremel. it might damage the integrity of the rod, so i'd be careful if you decide to do it.
  11. no neither one of those are the rod. this rod is made by All Star
  12. does anyone know if it is damaging to the drill (motor/battery) to leave it running at a very low speed for extended periods of time (about 30 min)? thanks.
  13. you could go to the hobby store, pick up some basswood blocks, some devcon 2-ton epoxy, paintbrushes, and some acrylic hobby paints in assorted colors. you can carve your own lures out of the wood (might need to go to the hardware store and pick up some screw eyes and split rings to attach hooks), paint them with the acrylic, and put epoxy over the final product. it does not matter what kind of paint you use, because it will be covred by epoxy so it wont get damaged.
  14. i have an allstar GT2 classic graphite rod that is 6' 6", 10-20lb line, and rated for lures 1/4 to 1 1/2 ounces. it does not list the power on the rod??? i thought that was weird, what power do you think it is? it doesnt really feel like a heavy power rod. honestly, it only feels like a medium. maybe its a medium heavy. i dunno. what do you guys think?
  15. pressure is key. i just pull tight and reel down hard. get em in every time. it also helps if you have a rod that is made for crankbaits. this would be a rod with a medium action. it has plenty of backbone but A LOT of flex in it. this helps in putting just the right amount of pressure on them so they cant get off and you dont rip the hooks out.
  16. if you leave your fish finder running, can bass hear the sound waves it produces? and does it spook them?
  17. sometimes you can make really successful colors by mixing plastics together :
  18. this contest sounds fun! i have one question though...is your final score invalidated if you dont catch one fish from each method? Entry Fee: (you could say i wasnt too thrilled with this one :)
  19. like most people said, it really depends on the lake. i dont stay out as long as a lot of people. im only out for a few hours. but on average i'd say i catch anywhere from 2 to 6 fish.
  20. as long as worms from different brands/colors arent touching you will be fine. different colors will bleed into each other and SOME different brands will melt each other.
  21. Redlinerobert posted a few days ago about a real nice leather sheath he had custom made. i dont remember the link but you could PM him and find out.
  22. whatever you do, dont do the same thing too much (unless its catching fish!) try to keep your retrieve as erratical as possible. you dont want a mechanical retrieve. other than that you just gotta experiment, you can jerk this thing very hard and it will go crazy and turn around and stuff, or you could give it regular jerks and it will dart around side to side like a normal jerkbait. you could even just reel it straight back like a normal minnow bait if the fish dont want a really aggressive approach. like i said, just change it up, experiment, and dont be mechanical. you will eventually find fish, and then after you do, do what the fish want.
  23. i must agree, those fish do look identical. that must be really awesome to catch the same fish a few months later and know for sure its the same fish. idk how much the average fish gains during spawn but i'd say first pic looks about 7lbs. it really doesnt look much bigger in the first pic than the second. its a hawg fo' sho'.
  24. both sizes work equally well. with a fast reaction bait like this, im not sure if that size difference matters much. nice color choice by the way those are two of my favorite xrap colors.
  25. get some 10 or 20 lb power pro for him. strong and it wont tagle up like cheap mono will.
