  1. smaller baits will often get you bit more with generally smaller fish, whereas bigger baits will get you bit less, but you will generally have bigger fish.
  2. you can always send it my way if you are not pleased with it! ;D
  3. lol i added losing the fish just to be funny. i guess if you lose it, you didnt really catch it so how can that be part of catching!?!? i'll add a few options that you have suggested
  4. thanks for all the replies guys! this is a VERY shallow pond. it is only a few inches deep around the edges, then it drops off to a few feet deep about 10 feet from shore. the deepest part is in the very middle and i would say it isnt much deeper than 8 or 10 feet.
  5. i have never used floro, so i cannot speak for it, but i know for a fact braid is a zillion times more sensative than mono. braid is the most sensative line i have ever used. its very sensative. i can feel bites on slack line, i dont care if you say i cant, i KNOW i can because i have felt bites on slack line, i do all the time. either way, braid still has zero stretch, so you will have no problem setting the hook from 30 feet away.
  6. if its a big, well known lake, try www.topozone.com topozone will only show you an outline of the lake. if its a small, obscure lake/pond, your best bet is google earth. like ebby said, you can see some features like dropoffs and points when you use google earth.
  7. thanks guys. it is a great pond. i love that pond but i hate it lol. i love it because it is full of QUALITY fish. bigger fish than anywhere else that i fish. but i hate it because the fish are so difficult to catch. i have been skunked there MANY times. its also got kinda limited access. here are two pictures of the pond that, if put side by side, show a view of the entire pond (panorama style):
  8. thats pretty funny! ;D
  9. the 4.6lber i caught today had me burried in the absolute deepest stuff you could imagine. it was burried in hydrilla and snot grass and then it got tangled up in lily pads. it was about 6 feet in front of me and i was shore fishing so i got scared i would lose it. i just eased up on the pressure and the fish got it self right out of the pads and i pulled it on shore!
  10. what is your favorite part of catching a hawg? i know my favorite part is setting the hook. there is nothin else like reelin up the slack and swingin your rod back as hard as you can, and feelin a nice solid fish on the recieving end.
  11. USE BRAID!!! its more sensative so you will feel smaller taps, and its got no stretch, so setting the hook from 40 feet away is no problem. also, like others have said, watch your line. but most likely, you will feel the fish as well as see your line move. i know i catch a lot of fish at the end if a long cast and i feel them just as if they were 10 feet away.
  12. went fishing with the cavitron tonight and didnt catch any. i had one fish on but it was very weird. it must have struck as soon as my bait hit the water because when i went to start my retrieve after it hit the water, i couldnt get the bait to come to the top, then i felt a fish start pumping my rod! i didnt even know he had hit it, so i didnt have a chance to set the hook, and then the fish came off.
  13. that was a very entertaining story! hope he keeps on nailing the fish!
  14. i finally dragged my dad out to this pond i have been wanting to fish for over a week. i have been here several times before but only caught two dinks here. that changed today. it started off VERY slow. my dad got two hits right off the bat on an *** beaver but couldnt hook up. i was alternating fishing a 12" culprit and a cavitron. about 45 min to an hour later, i got one on my buzzbait but it quickly got off. then it was about 45 min to an hour of nothing. then my dad hooked up with a nice one and landed this fish on an *** 5" ***: it was hooked deep and was bleeding. i got the hook out cleanly (thru the gill method) but i wanted to get it back in the water fast so we didnt take measurements. i'd guess it was pushing 2lbs. then it got slow again. no bites for about 30 min. i decided to switch over to the ***. i was dragging it through some gnarly stuff; a combination of hydrilla, snot grass, and lily pads: i casted over to deep water, crawled it onto the slop, and was just twitchin it along. i let it fall into a hole and sit, then i felt a pretty slight tick tick tick. i slammed the hook home and stuck a nice pig. it was steady takin out drag. it got pretty freakin tangled up in all the slop, but it was no match for my 50lb braid. then it got caught up in some of the lily pads, and i started getting real scared of losing it. i just eased up on the pressure and he swam out of the pads. i dragged this 21 inch, 4lb 6oz beast on shore: not too long after that i caught a super dink using the same method: only reason i took a pic was to enter it in the *** contest. i proceeded to catch 2 more slightly bigger dinks before the night was done. all in all it was a good time. very slow at first but it got awesome at the end. sorry for dragging this post out ;D
  15. someone in the other thread called it the "Yamamoto Shrimp".
  16. anyone have a special technique for wading with multiple [1 pc.] rods?
  17. i say its about 3.5-4lbs. i dont accuse you of lying, or trying to exaggerate, im just saying my opinion, everythings cool. if you say your knuckles are 4.5" across, judging by that, the fish is about 19, maybe 20 inches long, and according to the weight calculator on Bass Resource (which almost everyone agrees weights fish too high), that fish would weigh 3.9lbs (19 inches) or 4.5lbs (20 inches). there is really no way to tell from a photograph, especially when accurate lenght and girth measurements are not given. but i can tell that is no 5lber. if you do have the length and girth but didnt post them, try using this formula to find out the weight: (girth2 × length) ÷ 800 most people will tell you this is a pretty accurate formula. might i add, NICE FISH!!! its still bigger than most of what i catch, good job!
  18. lol i do have good luck with it! i do it all the time with hyrilla and lily pads too.
  19. fish a different spot or fish with different lures. keep changing till you find something that works and stick with it till it stops working then try something new.
  20. k well i am going tonite, and i dont have any trailer hooks. i guess i'll just hope for the best!
  21. if i get to go fishing tonight, i want to try out the cavitron. i was wondering if you guys usually put a trailer hook on this bait?
  22. that bass (along with several others you have caught) has very strange markings. i havent seen those on any other bass. cool! keep on catchin 'em! hope you have a good time next week too!
  23. great fish dude! that 9lber is an absolute toad! but im left curious about the bright blue star thing hanging from you???
  24. that picture is absolutley hilarious!!!! ;D
