well, i lost my better snagproof frog (tournament series). i left it on the bank at the last pond i fished.
all i had left was the crappy original snag proof frog with stiff legs, and a crappy, small, dull double hook.
did a little modification this morning to turn it into what i think is gonna be a pretty good little frog.
first thing i did was trashed the double hook and put in a stout, gammie 4/0 EWG. very sharp, very strong, and its still weedless on the frog (kinda have to skin hook it like a plastic worm). i also put 5 BB's in the frog for weight (since the lead ballast weight fell out) and rattle.
next, i decided to do something about those legs. i was gonna cut them off and put some rabbit strips there, but i didnt have the right color rabbit. then i was gonna try olive green hackle, didnt have the right length. so i left the legs.
but i took a wire and made a brace for the legs. i wrapped it around one ankle and then left a length between the legs and wrapped it around the other ankle so it separated the legs and held them separated.
then i submerged the back half of the frog in boiling water for 30 seconds and dunked it in cool water for 30 seconds afterward.
the result...two separated legs that actually kick when the lure is twitched!
i think this frog will be a winner
