  1. Are you getting the backlash on the start of the cast or more towards the end? How heavy of a lure are you you attempting to cast? If you have the cast control set very light you may want to tighten it some to help.
  2. became a fan of the Yum Money Minnow yesterday, was my first day throwing it and was impressed with how it swam. Have tried the swim senko some and it does look good also.
  3. Thanks to all for the tips, got to love this site. Can't tell you how much better my setups are, so excited about this season. Anyway, ordered some larger hooks, was the perfect excuse to make a small order. Got some yo-zuri hybrid (10lb) have to confess had mono on the one BC reel while I learned it, and got a TT 4in swimbait......
  4. They are 3.5 inches long... btw, first time I got a chance to use them, was impressed with their action.
  5. 4/0 swimbait hook. not sure what brand of the top of my head
  6. Got something that is bugging me. I was fishing a Yum Money Minnow yesterday around some laydowns. Had two good strikes and lost both fish, one was big which is why this is bugging me. So wondering what the experts think about hooking up better. Is it best to set the hook with a sideways hookset, or straight up? Once the strike happens to you give them a second to take it in deeper?
  7. All in all was a little tough today, front coming in so got very windy but managed to get a couple decent ones.
  8. Right now I am using a Revo S and a Citica which are my first baitcasters I have used successfully. I started out with a magnetic braking system reel last year and couldn't get used to it at all. I bought the Revo after suggestions on this site and out of the box it was 100% different, the centrifugal brakes were much better to deal with. So I replaced the original reel with a Citica 200D and loaded it with 40lb PowerPro braid. Took it out for the first time yesterday, used the same settings as the Revo and had no issues. Right now each reel has two brakes on, with loose spool tension. I guess after all that, in my opinion as a new baitcast user, go with centrifugal brakes. Oh and now that I am comfortable with these reels. I didn't touch my spinning rod at all yesterday.....
  9. I have the 565, love it, has been a great unit.
  10. no.... was hoping to get out today but wife had some car issues and got tied up doing some other husband duties while out..... Hoping to head out next wednesday, don't have to work and supposed to be nice out. Will probably go to Black Hills, especially after seeing you new PB Basser89, now I am really ready to go for largemouth......
  11. Way to go!!!!! Great way to start off the year..
  12. Not being mechanically inclined has its definite disadvantages... Dropped my boat off at the shop, will cost about 500 bucks to have a few things done to get ready for the season. Impeller, lower unit oil, trailer bearings, and a transom saver added... oh well, guess that means I just need to use it more often to justify the cost.....
  13. I have been out on the Potomac in the area around upper Montgomery County, lower Frederick County area. What area are you thinking of heading, you going for largemouth or smallmouth?
  14. While racing another car on the street he apparently lost control of his Ferrari and split the car in two. When will people realize the street is no place to race. http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/pgStory?contentId=9323124#sport=MMA/Boxing&photo=9324670
  15. Removing the B pillar....? Hope nobody gets wheels up, without the B pillar there is no center structure, and the doors were elongated. Interesting to see if it would pass the safety test. otherwise, very cool looking would definitely turn heads
  16. Found this video, just awesome what can be done...... http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/lewis-hamilton-uses-iphone-to-control-real-f1-car oh, and its a Blackberry Storm not an Iphone....
  17. I shuddered when I saw the topic of this post, staying home is never an option......
  18. yeah, the up and down weather has been cruel. Just when the lake's are getting close to being ready to fish it gets cold again. But fortunately the heated water on the river has the smallmouth action going very well so the winter blues are gone.
  19. Have not tried the Paca craw or chunk yet, one quick question. How do they hold up. Been using Power Craws and they have been working well but don't hold up very well.
  20. Yes pitching is what it should have said, I guess it is true working a 12 hour shift on a sunday causes slower brain function...... Guess I can add this to the list of what to practice when I get the boat out onto the lake.
  21. hjerk, you are referring to Private Message, not email....correct?
  22. Switching over to using BC reels, used spinning exclusively, I have gotten casting down okay, but...... I cannot get flipping right, keep getting overrun. Is flipping with a BC a matter of thumb training or is the tips to keep in mind. On my Revo I have two of the centrifugal brakes on and the spool tension is essentially turned off. I don't get backlashes in regular casting (well one or two during 5-6 hours of fishing except when flipping. Any help would be greatly appreciated, really want to get this down before the largemouth on the lake start hanging around the trees...
  23. Was a decent day today so headed out to the river to see what I get. Well the water was in great shape, although a little low. First fish of the day was a 15 inch largemouth, not huge but a decent one for this part of the river. Switched from a super fluke to a jig w/craw trailer. Got several 14-15 smallmouth so was pretty happy. Then got into a good one and after a good fight got it to shore. It was about an 18 inch smallmouth which would be my PB, only issue was had to go down a muddy bank to get him in. So had to decide between trying to get up the bank for a pic or take a chance of falling in. As I can't swim decided to release him without a pic. Got a couple more nice smallmouth thru the day. Glad I decided to save the honey-do list for tomorrow....
  24. Working in network security I can say you would be shocked to realize the lack of common sense some people will show sometimes. No matter how much we talk to people about being safer about their computer use they still click on or open the oddest things.
  25. I just got a Revo S earlier this year, I have not had one issue with the brakes or casting. The centrifugal brakes were no problem to me, my first BC reel I bought last year was magnetic brakes and it has been a test of nerves. Was out earlier today and was ripping away on cast without any issues. I have it on a 7ft BPS Extreme Trigger MH rod for reference.
