  1. I prefer the high speed reel for carolina rigs because the leader can have several feet to move around. The fish can get a lot of slack in the line and when you set the hook you need to gather the slack from the rod tip to the weight and the slack between the weight and fish. Personally, I have a Revo STX-HS.
  2. Some of these phishing emails are done very well, generally no company will ask you do things likes this. One thing to look at, if you hover your mouse pointer over the link the actual url it will go to will show in a pop-up. If it doesn't make sense don't click on it. Everything else in the email can be spoofed, the actual url cannot.
  3. If you have to hide things from your spouse, your problems go far deeper then what fishing gear you have.
  4. Here is my list: Dobyns 765CB Glass/Shimano Curado 200E5 Dobyns 734C/Revo STX Save Phace mask Under Armour Base 3 cold weather gear Under Armour cold weather gloves Bunch of new baits
  5. How much are you willing to spend, what baits and techniques you planning to do with it?
  6. Its never a bad idea to have a backup email address or two. Use one for you actual emails you want, use a backup or two for filling out forms online. You know if you have to fill out anything online you have to include an email address and it will start getting spam. Just dump it to a backup address.
  7. As long as there is enough water to cover their back bass will go there.
  8. As usual Raul gave a great answer, from my personal experience I would do the medium/fast action as a spinning rod for lighter baits.
  9. The two I have are the SS743C and 765CB Glass. The 734 is my primary jig rod, its paired with a Revo STX-SH which is proving to be an outstanding pairing. The 765 I have not had a chance to use much but has been great so far. Send an PM to David P (sorry Dave for keep dropping your name), he can answer any questions about Dobyns rods you have. He answered a lot of questions about them before I bought my first one. Glad he did I got a different one then I was originally going to and its perfect.
  10. I think the mental games is a huge part of KVD winning. Yes he is a great fishermen but he has everyone so worried about what he is doing they do not concentrate as much on their own game plan.
  11. Mostly when using braid in clear water, a flouro leader is far less visible to the fish. You still get the sensitivity of braid without the visibility issue.
  12. Over the last two years I have replaced all of my rods, trying different brands. Late last year I bought a Dobyns Savvy 734C. The next rod was another Dobyns, at this point any rods I get will be Dobyns, love them.
  13. I have only used the Dobyns Savvy so can only comment on them but love it. I have a SS734C for jigs. Liked this one so much a month later got a 765CB glass crankbait rod. This one is in the Champion line because the Savvy doesn't have a crankbait rod option.
  14. I switch, some people think its a bad thing especially with pitching and flipping. The thought is you will miss hooksets on quick bites. But watch a lot of the top pro's and other's who have fishing shows, a lot of them switch.
  15. Hotrod, The only thing we were doing was vertical jigging with silver buddies in 18-22 foot of water. We starting getting more when we shortened our hops off the bottom to 6-10 inches but that may be something to play around with. I know some other people there were using live minnows. Also, sometimes you can pick up decent fish on a dropshot using small plastics.
  16. Got out for the day yesterday, went down to Occoquan. Ended up having two other boats from my bass club there. Only a couple bass were caught but we all got a good number of yellow perch. Time for a fish fry tonight. The water was in the low 40's and pretty cloudy in the Occoquan, but the main river was worse. Ended up just staying in the Occoquan fishing silver buddies.
  17. personally would go with 6lb yozuri ultrasoft on the spinning reels. The spincast I would either go with the same thing or go up to 10lb if you wanted a little stronger line.
  18. I fish similar style and went with a 734. It handles this size bait well and having the extra power is good to have even in moderate cover.
  19. Slider head with a finesse worm or 3in senko style bait....
  20. Sorry if this is on here already but I looked and don't see it. For someone who is just starting to try to repaint their own baits. What would a good setup be in regards to paint gun, paints, and seal coats?
  21. easy pick there, dobyns savvy
  22. Looks like I will be fishing for a week on Black Lake near Hammond NY. I have no idea about this lake at all. The trip will be the last week of July. If anyone has any information please let me know. It will be greatly appreciated.
  23. I agree with J Franco for the most part. Only two things concern me when I see it. One is laying a fish on the ground. The other is something I see sometimes on fishing shows. If they are putting fish in a live well. The person on the back of the boat opens the livewell and the person on the front tosses the fish in from the front. The fish hits the lid and bounces around before going in. There really is no excuse other then being lazy to do that.
