  1. I agree with Grey Wolf, hybrid on the bc. The ultra soft is better on spinning gear.
  2. Welcome 301-fisherman!!!!!! Black Hills can be a tough place to fish from shore, but there are some really good fish there. I will put together some thoughts in an PM to you a little later.
  3. Ghoti, if this is the way he handles himself they probably don't want him back....
  4. Would suggest, if possible, to let him try on a rod/reel you are comfortable with that you know how to adjust. Then its just the usual, practice, practice, practice, especially in the back yard. No pressure to catch anything there.
  5. Love the baby craws, used them last saturday to get 3rd in a tourney. After all the rain the flood gates were open so main lake was out of the question. Almost everything was muddy too, except one creek a couple boats found (not mine). Got my 5 fish limit for 10lbs 9oz on a t-rigged baby craw or a sliderhead with baby craw.
  6. This is what I was hoping I would not see.... http://www.wtop.com/?nid=41&sid=2366170
  7. I had Lasik 13 1/2 years ago, could not be happier. Went from 20/400 to 20/20 in one eye, 20/25 in the other. I was able to drive myself to my post op visit the next morning without glasses. Just like srv1990, do resource on the doctors who do it. Don't just pick the cheapest.
  8. It always amazes me how different peoples thoughts are on line. I tried Pline CXX (6lb) and threw it all away after the 2nd trip with it. It kept breaking for no apparent reason. But gave the flouroclear (10lb) a try and it has performed very well for me.
  9. But I did snag into the biggest turtle of the night..... Was hoping we would get into a few fish just for the fun of it and to have some confidence I was showing Bass-a-holic a decent place.
  10. Two more... 1. Saying GM, Ford, or Dodge are "american" cars because they are "based" in the US. Dodge is owned by Fiat, the other two have built more plants in Canada, Mexico and China. Other companies are building in the US. Its the only companies who get a pass on outsourcing jobs to other companies, why is it okay for them but when other companies do it they are being unamerican. 2. People saying they will "revoke" guys man cards for doing something they don't do. Everyone is different which is great, world would be boring otherwise. Seems to me it takes more of a man to do what they want, then someone afraid to because of how others would view it.
  11. Got a few hours in on Black Hills last night, met up with one of my club members. We did not catch any thing large but each got about 5 or 6 in the 14 to 15 inch range. Every fish we caught was around shallow wood on slider head with finesse worms. With the bright sunny days the water temps have come up 15 degrees in two days. Once the fish get adjusted to that rapid change Black Hills will be on fire.
  12. This tourney was last weekend, waited for a couple pictures. The tourney was on Lake Gaston, weather was pretty good and the bite was good on Friday. The first picture is my 5 fish limit, for 10lbs 4oz. Most fish were caught on 5in senko's with one on a soft swimbait. Second day the bite slowed but still worked my way into a 5 fish limit for 7lbs 1oz. Ended up winning the co-angler site by a little over two pounds. The second pic I don't know what morning it was but nice pick. My boater was hellbenderman on BR.
  13. People who wait until the last second to cut across a couple lanes of traffic to make a turn Those who ride in the left lane on the highway and won't get over if they are holding up traffic. See this all the time with people going 10-15 mph under the speed limit. People who leave their stereo on loud when they go into a gas station store, don't get me wrong mine is on loud when I drive but turned down or off when I pull in somewhere. Although it is funny when their car vibrates like its falling apart on bass hits...
  14. Its a Toyota MR2 with an engine swap I don't have one and can't think of anyone who does so unfortunately can't help...
  15. When your confident about what you are doing you are calmer and patient which helps catch fish. In a tourney you get the nerves going and work to fast, hooksets become to quick. My last tourney I had to sit down to force myself to slow down. After a couple hours of no bites I was nervous and the bite was when the baits were worked slow. After sitting down I catch 2 decent fish and won.
  16. Backing is exactly what you described in your first post. Its a great idea, saves a lot of money by not wasting the more expensive line.
  17. Seems baby-ish...now that is funny. Who really cares if it helps learn a new technique. As for the suggestions of left or right handed reels, go to a store and try each styles. I reel spinning with my left hand but on baitcasters it feels very odd to me, just can't do it. People will give you all kind of reasons for using the different styles but it comes down to what feels right to you.
  18. Being in Frederick you can also make a short drive to Cunningham Falls, small lake there with some decent largemouth in it. Its good for small boats and has plenty of shore access.
  19. Wow Sean I go away for a couple days and you make that comment, you know what they say about paybacks Welcome dcfdpipeman, thanks for the service you provide. Don't have much to add seems things have been covered. My schedule is pretty full for another month or so. Only fishing I will get is after work during the week.
  20. During the off season I got a Dobyns Champion 765CB Glass, paired it with a Curado 200E5. Absolutely love this combo.
  21. Been up for around a week and a half. But if you want to throw the criticism out there an explanation of might help.
  22. My personal opinion is the Dobyns Savvy series, would love to be able to switch all my rods to them. The biggest thing is how the rods feel to you, everyone's style is a little different. Some people hate the Skeet Reese rods because they feel "whippy", others like the feel.
  23. Second bait...
  24. Here are a couple from my first attempt to paint my own baits. Don't think they are too bad but plenty of areas for improvement. I addition to these two styles I have shallow cranks in the pattern similiar to the "perch" pattern. Please give any tips or suggestion, looking for ways to improve.
  25. I would go with the Savvy 734C
