  1. I am in, I have a tourney on Black Hills on Sept 10th, I vote for the weekend of the 17-18. Black Hills would work at as a venue but the fishing is very tough at that time of the year. I don't have a boat.
  2. Got back from New York yesterday, Black Lake is great had no problems finding fish. Once we figured it our a little better we had no problems catching 17 inch largemouths and 15 inch smallies to the point we just referred to them as cookie cutters. Caught two pike also, which were the first two I ever caught. Neither were huge, biggest was 26 inches. We caught fish on slider heads, frogs, jigs, spinnerbaits (yes Sean I thru one quite a bit), cranks, wacky rig senkos, carolina rigs. Probably forgetting some baits but it was a lot of fun. As Sean said, I am up for meet as long as it falls at a time I am not doing a tourney.
  3. NY is tomorrow, stop trying to get rid of me..... After reading fishing reports and pictures from Black Lake I am stoked to go after some of those (not so) skinny, tiny pike. Most of the time will be fishing for smallmouth and largemouth, but will try for some walleye and yellow perch to eat. Unless the person who's boat I will be in is against it will try for a pike or two also, just for fun.
  4. I saw what??? Its all part of the fishing, part of what makes it fun when you do get the big ones in. I am having a rough year for big fish, best LM is 4lbs 4oz, best smallie is 3lb 1oz. Hope to get out of that funk soon.
  5. Don't have anything to suggest for specific openings, but want to say keep that attitude of willing to do anything. One of the biggest mistakes I see is people not willing to take a "lower" position then they have in their mind they are qualified for. My best job, the one I am in now, came because I took a position to get into the company and worked my way from there. A good attitude, work ethic, and willingness to actually work will take you a long way.
  6. I usually have a lot better success throwing a different bait, mostly senko or sliderhead, as a follow up bait.
  7. For deep cranks my Dobyns Champion 765CB has performed great.
  8. Great fish David301!!! Leaving on Friday for a week of fishing in New York, can't wait to get up there. Looking at fishing reports and the forums for the lake makes the anticipation worse.
  9. Another thought popped into my head, to actually fish where I said you need a tidal license and be part of the national registry..... not as good of an idea as it was when earlier
  10. dcfdpipeman, you can also take you boat to Mattowomen to test out the motor. If you go on the DC beltway to Indian Headpark way, to Mattingly Rd. Its the last left before you get to the gates to the Naval Research center. At the end of that road is a nice ramp which puts in the no wake area. If you go right from the ramp you are in no wake for a nice long way then it opens up to full motor. Plenty of room to test the motor and good fishing too.
  11. 1 - low ratio, 5:1 2 - high speed, 7:1 3 - high speed, 7:1 The lower gear ratio will make it easier pulling cranks all day, especially deep cranks. The other two will benefit from being able to pick up line quicker. How much is debatable, like everything else, but I have seen improvement on what I can do since I switched.
  12. Is there a fuel filter which may be clogged, or an issue with the gas lines. Any ethanol fuel used may have gummed things up.
  13. I will be in TN, but did buy my license for the time I am there. There is a small creek within easy walking distance with some decent size smallies and largemouth. There apparently is also a pond which was stocked with trout a few years ago, may hit that for some fish to throw on the smoker.
  14. They will get you good fish, just keep in mind that if the fish jumps there is a good chance they will throw the hook. Do what you can to keep them from jumping, and absolutely don't allow slack in the line.
  15. Does you Anti-Virus have an email scrubber option which can remove certain types of high risk attachments?
  16. It all depends on how wide the bottom of the boat is, and if it has a deck how high it has been placed.
  17. I enjoy watching sports but only at home, cannot stand being around people screaming at a TV or acting like the home team winning/losing has an affect on their lives. I am almost 40 years old and still do not get people who after the home team wins proclaim "We won". Where is this "We" stuff, you had nothing to do with it...
  18. I go up to Big Pool sometimes with Basser89, he knows the place a lot better then I do. But we usually do pretty well for numbers but not a lot of size. Although there are some big fish in there they are hard to locate. Fat Boy, looks like you had a good day on the water...nice work Wish I could get out but stuck studying for a 4 hours test on Wednesday then heading to TN over next weekend. Won't get on the water again until my tourney on the 9th at Black Hills.
  19. Was going thru withdrawal symptoms, but the forums are noticeably faster now. Great work!
  20. Both Hybrid and UltraSoft float.
  21. I fish the lower Potomac River which in many areas is choked with thick grass. Wouldn't use anything less then a heavy action rod with 50lb+ braid for frogs.
  22. Fat Boy don't worry to much, I spend hours in a boat or truck going to tourney's with HBM and he still gets me hooked into his jokes sometimes. One of the reasons it is so much fun to fish with him, I know I will get into fish, and have a few good laughs along the way.
  23. Good suggestion JF, the issue I have with setting the hook when you can't see the frog is they sit low in the water anyway. Losing site of them is almost always a case with the splash from the strike. That is why I wait until I feel pressure, or yes line movement but usually not enough slack to see it move without feeling it.
  24. Usually its the opposite of that, the trained professionals are not protected under the good Samaritan laws because they are trained and should know what they are doing. The average citizen is not traded but trying to help.
