  1. For the treble hook baits I would go with the mod action.
  2. I have a 7ft MM St. Croix Premier crankbait rod, I paired it with a Curado 50E and toss 1/4th baits with no issue. Keep you eye on the flea market section, never know what will show up there which will work well.
  3. I agree with Catt on setting the hook immediately, and since the jigs have a thick hook make sure to set the the hook like you mean it. When you feel the bite or see the line twitch try to cross their eyes, if the thick hook hits a hard part of their mouth it will take some force to get it to penetrate.
  4. Got out to Black Hills the last two evenings. Monday night, met up with Ken and 301. Fishing was slow, both in number of bites and the presentation it took to get them. Caught a couple, nothing big. But another guy there caught a beautiful 7 to 7.5 pound largemouth. When I first got there the wind was still blowing, all my bites came while it was blowing. When it stopped I couldn't find anything. But always fun to get out, especially when you meet up with two new guys. Look forward to the oppurtunity to fish with them some more. Last night, met up with Sean (basser89). Managed to find a few bites, again the presentation was slow. In fact extremely slow, most bites I never felt just saw the line twitch. When I set the hook immediately I would most or hook up for a second then off. Switch to not setting the hook on the line twitch and let the fish swim for a couple seconds and managed to land a couple. Did manage one decent fish about 4 to 4.5 pounds. Sean found some bites too, even after a kayaker decided the only place to fish on the 500 acre lake was right were he was. Not sure when I will get out again, hopefully it won't be to long and I can meet up with guys again.
  5. I agree with the first reply, play to your strenghts. It doesn't matter what your boater is doing, as long as your pattern fits the depth/cover being fished stick with what works for you. Also, relax out on the water. I see a lot of guys fishing there first couple of tourneys get caught up in things, whether its the time limitation or wanting to do well. This causes you to fish to fast, relax and the results will come.
  6. Make it a chatterbait, and in the face it would match mine from two weeks ago.... Couldn't get mine out, after a trip to the hospital and 6 stitches later it doesn't look to bad. I do have pics but they are rather nasty so won't post them.
  7. Give the Dobyn's Champion CB 765 Glass rod a try, most don't realize it is a glass rod until I tell them. They do make graphite rods for crankbaits which acts more like glass but why buy something that acts like the glass rods when you can get glass which is not heavy or unbalance like the older rods.
  8. Anyone going to Black Hills tonight? I was planning to meet 301-fisherman there at the stickups, I haven't heard from him so not sure if he going to be able to make it. But thinking I will still go, and hope the wind isn't to bad. I am sure the temp drop has slowed things dramatically but we will see.
  9. Not necessarily a death sentence, I have caught plenty of fish with hooks in their gullet. Or even "expelling" it out the other end.
  10. But on thing is if it was Darin "Big Daddy" Young playing at least you could have watched the best american playing.
  11. The story of that guy is pretty amazing.....odd to say with the title but the world needs more of him
  12. Welcome Pescado, its a great place to meet up and talk about fishing the area.
  13. Some type of conservatory, plants/flowers type show.
  14. Wow, big drop in temps. That will make it interesting. I was thinking of going sunday but no luck finding a boater to go with and with all of these people at the park I will avoid it. Wife is out of town Sunday so will end up going somewhere just don't know where yet. Sent a message to 301, hopefully we can meet up Monday after work at BH. With those temps and the drop may be fishing a lot of plastics close to cover.
  15. Sean, I sent 301 a PM hopefully I can help. But also my wife is on travel next week. If the weather is decent will hit BH at least one evening after work. If 301 can join me we can take a look. Have to check weather to see what night or nights I go over.
  16. Don't get overly concerned with distance at first, get comfortable with consistant cast with no backlash and accuracy. As you get more comfortable you can start turning down the brakes which will help with distance.
  17. Good luck on Friday Fat Boy. Last saturday it was not hard to locate bass, just finding them over the 15 inch minimum length for our tourney proved a little interesting. If all goes well I will be heading out to Black Hills on Sunday with a boater from my club. Hopefully the couple of colder nights will not impact the bite to much.
  18. x2 on mothballs Make sure to get the old fashion kind.
  19. I fish from the back of the boat and mostly finesse fishing. Most of the time this works, but if the boater is trying to cover water it has to be scrapped. My club is boaters vs. boaters, and coanglers vs. coanglers. I do not expect and will not ask that he pass up a spot so I can have first shot. He is fishing for a win himself, not guiding me. The most important thing to learn as a coangler is to adapt, look for different angles or other ways to present baits the boater isn't doing. If its a team tourney then its all different, a plan of attack should have been discussed prior to hitting the water.
  20. No one wants to stick there name on the quote for obvious reasons, but other Jets players are already making comments questioning the decision. Just a few stats from last season: Orton-Tebow Comparison W-L Points Comp.Pct. TD-Int Rating First 5 games (Orton) 1-4 105 .587 8-7 75.7 Last 5 games (Tebow) 1-4 79 .402 3-4 60.5
  21. Don't worry Sean we would have blamed you for any confusion anyway Sounds like I need to hit Black Hills sometime soon. Great to hear all the good trips and big fish caught. Will have to see if I can make it out next weekend. This weather has been strange but it is making the fish bite. Was odd fishing shallow wood for prespawn fish on the lower potomac saturday.
  22. Ha ha....no i didn't take a pic.
  23. Thanks Peter! The lunker was 5lbs 10ozs. Sam is a great guy to fish wish, willing to share a lot of information. And you can never argue against riding in a 22ft ranger. Surprised to hear it got better later in the day. Most our fish came early.
  24. Fished with potomacbass today in our clubs team tourney on the lower potomac. We ended up with 15lbs 11ozs to take first place, and got lunker at 5lbs 10ozs. The lunker came on a sliderhead with a hard candy baby rage craw. Was a good day for numbers and size. Great way to get the season started!
