  1. The river is shot for now, with the storms coming tomorrow not finding a back seat to go out. So depending on what the weather is in the morning I may go out for a little while tomorrow. If not its a day to do homework....yippee....
  2. The alberto knot is great, and after you tie it a couple times is not difficult at all. Smaller than a uni to uni so it goes thru guides well, and is strong.
  3. There will be reduced stretch in the line, no need to set the hook hard.
  4. Welcome tserberis and MARsSPEED!!! MARsSpeed, does you name have anything to do with Summit Point Raceway? I have heard a lot of good fish from Lake Linganore but I have never been able to fish it before. The water is down at Black Hills because they pull water out once every spring and fall. I imagine the bite is slower due to weather and fish being locked on beds. That should change soon. Hoping to get out there saturday if I can find someone with an empty back seat. Basser89 is correct, there are no pike in the Potomac. In the Washington Country stretch there is a good population of musky but not to many farther downriver. As for the snakehead, I have only heard one reported caught in the upper, around the Whites Ferry area.
  5. Good around most things except for weeds.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the original motor for that boat, Tracker boats offers what appear to be great deals on boats but you will they are way underpowered to achieve the lower price.
  7. Check the max HP, how close is the 60HP to the max. An underpowered boat will drive you crazy.
  8. I have had good luck with Seaguar Invizx on spinning and Abrazx on baitcasters. If not around heavy cover on baitcast 12lb would work great, but the 12lb Abrazx would still be abrasion resistant. And even better they are a sponsor on this site....and no I am not suggesting only because of this. All my combos have one of these two lines except two braid setups and one copoly for topwater baits.
  9. I voted the 5 big ones, just because of tournaments, but it really depends on whether I am out to relax or win a tourney.
  10. No contest, get the BassCat. Can't think of anything that is better on the Nitro except for price. Customer service from BassCat is outstanding.
  11. I have had great luck with pline flouroclear and yozuri hybrid (ultrasoft on spinning, regular on baitcast). Tried cxx one for two trips, hated it due to line breaking for no reason. Abuse flouroclear & Yozuri with no issues. Use KVD L&L when I spool up and the night before each trip no management issues at all.
  12. Not a fan of country music, but he was my parents favorite for as long as I can remember. You have to admire his zest to live life. You can tell things were not right in the video for Aaron Lewis's Country Boy. May he rest in peace.
  13. Emergency drag changes are never good, I will sometimes loosen a little it once the fish is away from cover. Nothing worse than having line snap when the fish decides to make one last effort to get away. A quick shock on the line with only a few feet our does not work out well usually. As suggested before I use my hand to provide more resistance if I need to. I don't leave it lighter normally because I want to hookset and initial get out of cover ability.
  14. And it is not being able to handle the boat fine in perfect conditions. You have to give considerations for when the wind picks up, rain or a storm comes up. Seen a few trucks/trailers on their side or in the trees along the side of the road because conditions got the trailer swaying and the truck couldn't take it.
  15. What is the listed towing capacity of the truck? Probably will handle it but I would personally be worried about hills, and stopping in general. Also, will be a lot of wear and tear on a vehicle with a lot of age on it.
  16. You can probably find a tackle box full of baits around there. I know I have added a couple spinnerbaits so far this year, including the Megastrike Strikeback one in a tree 3 feet above water....
  17. What is your rod/reel setup and line? For these I use either a mh or h fast tip rod with 65lb braid, back up rod has 40lb braid but try not to use it in heavy grass. When I get a strike I drop the rod, reel in slack. and set the hook hard. This gives the fish a second to take the frog deeper, if you hook set to quickly you just pull it away from them.
  18. You might want to try a shorter bait also, the longer worm may not be taken in fully so you are not getting the hook deep enough. Shallow fish protecting a bed area are notorious for just picking up a bait to move it away from the bed.
  19. First baitcaster, stick with mono until you get comfortable. You will backlash, no point in wasting money on other lines until you get more comfortable.
  20. Munkin, yeah it does seem the average size in BH is going to be higher this year. Suspect the addition of yellow perch as a food source is the cause. Fish that friends and I have caught so far have been excellent. Speedbead, in Maryland if it is not Deep Creek lakes are electric only. You can have your big motor in the water but just cannot start it. Makes "blast off" for tournaments a little less thrilling....
  21. Haven't lost a topwater, but there is a really nice spinnerbait on top of water the stick ups thats about 3 foot out of the water...wind blew my line across it on the cast. Couldn't get it free. There are a lot of good places, not just the stickups. Look for places with cover away from where the "easy" places to walk. The stickup are getting pounded every day, won't stay so good with that much pressure.
  22. As a 12 year old... One of my favorites
  23. Any other fans of Joe Bonamassa? Have to admit I am usually into harder music, but sometimes mood is different and listening to Bonamassa is just what the doctor ordered. An immensly talented musician.
  24. Only one.... Aaron Lewis
  25. I agree with BrettD, not a lot of different while fishing moving baits. But when you get to any bait you fish where you have slack line it will hurt a lot. You need the extra sensitivity of a higher quality rod. Now for the weekend angler out for the fun of it the choice becomes personal preference, is the higher cost worth it for a few extra fish. Tournament anglers don't want to start off at a disadvantage when money is on the line.
