  1. Short answer, yes. Longer answer, getting into a local club and fishing in their tourney's is a great option. I started fishing in one a couple years ago, I had never been in a bass boat before. I was looking to improve my skills, meet some other fishing people, and I always enjoy a good competition. The experience has been great, and I have learned a lot. Can now pick up a couple wins, in the coangler ranks, each year. Personally, well obviously from the above, I would choose the local club over starting immediately with the larger tourney circuit. Give yourself a chance to how it works, gain some experience, and there is no better teacher than the experience of fishing with different people. As far as steps to take, post something in the part of the forums here for your area of the country and do a google search for clubs in your area. Check them out for scheduling, rules, and stop into a meeting to talk with them. One thing I would look for, if possible, is a club where co's fish against other co's, boaters fish against boaters. Makes it a little easier to learn and a little more fair. Cost will vary, currently my club is $60 a year with 1 day tourneys $30 and 2 day tourneys are $40. I am sure others will chime in with their thoughts too, feel free to PM me if you have anything you want to ask about my experiences.
  2. The part I do not get is how will it be enforced, and how much would that enforcement cost? Is the lower cost something to get it pushed thru then in a year try to raise it/
  3. For those who fish or use the C&O Canal http://www.heraldmailmedia.com/news/local/access-fees-proposed-along-entire-c-o-canal/article_9de4496d-43fc-510a-b16c-3cf652594a89.html
  4. With those two rods you need to be casting at least 1/2oz baits while learning, what are you attempting to cast?
  5. Different tools for different purposes. Maybe if you let us know what baitcasters you have an the issue you are having we can help
  6. My setups: Mono or copoly for topwater, braid for heavy grass frogs/punching, and flouro for everything else.
  7. I am like Sam, I do not look at other sites unless a specific search takes me there.
  8. Nice troll....but I do find it funny how everyone always compares their greatest product to Shimano. Would be more believable if there was not the over the top boast about how much greater it is than anything. A simple review of the product would go over better.
  9. Yes it is different, but different does not mean bad. I just purchased my first Apple product, a MacBook Pro. Sure it takes me a minute to figure out things sometimes, but it has been worth it. The thing just plain works, no fighting to get new things installed, or printers to connect. Boot up and wake from sleep are amazingly fast. Even my non-tech wife grabs it now over the Windows 7 or Windows 8 laptops.
  10. Find the motivation to do it for your teammates.
  11. Thought I could find info in search but came up with nothing useful, so here goes. Was fishing the last couple days and lost a glove overboard (was making a run and didn't realize until later). Now need to get another pair of gloves for cold weather fishing. Looking for a pair gloves to keep hands warm but able to cast a baitcaster. I know its a hard find so looking for info from others who fish in cold. Not overly worried about price for the right gloves. I do not want anything with exposed finger tips or mitten style. Any suggestions?
  12. Nastynate, may see you down at Anna. Going down for the weekend (Friday thru Sunday). Will probably end up spending some time looking for stripers while down there.
  13. Abrazx is a good line at a good price, will fit your use perfectly
  14. Anywhere from 12lb flouro to 65lb braid. Need specifics on what you plan to use them for before suggesting line.
  15. Thanks Logan This is the club that I am part of, it is a great bunch of guys to fish with, can't wait to get next season underway. I do not own a boat so I fish as a co-angler, great way to learn, go to different places, and get off the bank.
  16. Another vote for Snell....put the line thru the eye of the hook from the side with the point. Once you finish the know any pressure on the line kicks the hook out towards the fishes mouth.
  17. There is no way a relationship like that will work unless something changes. It will come between you if its not resolved one way or another. And you run a big risk of ill affects with your kids as they grow up seeing this. Time for a blunt talk, if it doesn't get better time to move on.
  18. Still prefer Waze and will reinstall when I need it. Keeps you up to date while you drive. Checking before leave is good but no updates. Living in the DC area the traffic is horrid any help is good.
  19. I had it on my old phone, haven't reinstalled on the new one. I liked it for the most part on long trips, can get annoying though with the "car parked on the side of the road" type alerts.
  20. ROI and fishing tourneys does not go together very well. If the goal is to make money open a business, just buying a boat and going tourney fishing won't do it. As they say, to make a small fortune in fishing, start with a large fortune. And fishing tourneys should not be based on money, everything else in life gets twisted by money. When debating the boat thing about enjoyment, time away, and having some fun with life. Way more important than making fishing about money.
  21. Nothing more than a classic bait and switch sale. Only a couple items are anything close to actual "special" deals and there is a limited numbers of those available. The rest is sold at prices you can get any other time and a lot of time lower prices are available closer to the holiday. The "special" deals are only there to get a mass of people in the door. You could not pay me to waste time doing BF shopping.
  22. The only two I know of are the creek in Cunningham Falls State Park, and Hunting Creek. Both areas are very regulated catch and release, specific artificial lures only.
  23. Funny you mention setting the hook, there are sometimes I set the hook and get a fish into the boat but thinking back I don't know why I set the hook. Just becomes a natural thing.
  24. Hand eye coordination works, I find myself doing the same thing in tourneys when I try to make that perfect cast. Have to relax and just fish.
