  1. Would suggest one that has the boaters compete against each other while the co's compete against other co's. Makes it a more level playing field, which is a lot more fun. It is a great way to learn.
  2. Catoctin Creek Distillery (Purcellville, Virginia) Rye Whiskey is outstanding.
  3. Or adjust your hooksets to fit the situation.
  4. Doing ribs this year, I love both turkey and ham but its another meal where I will cook what my guest or I want. Never been a person tied to tradition.
  5. After talking to Desmobob I purchased the Striker Ice Predator suit, completely impressed by it. The flotation portion is a huge added bonus when out in cold water.
  6. It depends on what section you fish, most of it has no restrictions on baits you can throw
  7. 8lb Invizx for spinning and Abrazx for baitcast gear is all i use
  8. In general my method on gear ratio is, for any bait which is moved by the rod go high gear ratio. For baits moved by the reel go lower
  9. I did an overnight catfish trip the day after having all 4 removed....
  10. I can't stand braid on spinning setups, wind knots and no sensitivity on slack line drives me nuts. Tried a couple different flouro's and found one that worked great for me at a decent price, Invizx 8lb.
  11. Custom 7ft 4in ML from DVT paired with a Stratic CI4 with 8lb Invizx flouro.
  12. Definitely some good fishing in the area, there is a post in this section called "Maryland Who's Who" with a lot of good information. I assume you will be in the College Park area, is this correct or a different school in Maryland?
  13. Same here as long island basser, out money is seperate. I buy what fishing or tech gear i want. She buys horse or horses she wants. As long as the bills are getting paid. Money is not important enough to argue both of our credit ratings are over 800. about unless bills dont get paid.
  14. I found the perfect rod, for me, formthis application by going custom from DVT. Let him know what you want and you will get it exactly as you want.
  15. Speaking as one of Logan's (Stratos20SS) co-anglers he is great to fish with. I have never once had to fish without the information I needed or had to ask for anything. I generally get more information than I expect from a boater. A lot of co's do not look at the electronics, if they are not being looked at there is absolutely no reason to leave them on.
  16. From a co's point of view, I will keep an eye on it if left on to keep up on depth around points or humps. It is to out of the way to keep watching for details like specific bushes, trees or rocks. But it does help, unless its an area I feel I know well if the boater ask if I want it I will request to leave it on. And if it is being left on a co should understand how to adjust it, but ask the boater if its okay to change it. Part of being a co for most of us is to learn, and we wish to one day have a boat of our own. Using whats available to you on different boats means you get to see different brands/models great time to take advantage.
  17. With spinning I won't go over 10lb diameter, becomes a handling mess. For baitcasters I have not had any issues, one Curado 50E i use 20lb Abrazx on. I have not gone bigger on anything so no input past that size.
  18. I second the switch to a MH rod, will help with hookups. Also, switch to a keel weighted swimbait hook instead of no weight. The bait will swim better.
  19. I have a DX742C paired with the CI+4 and love it. Would be a light for what you want to do, I would suggest a 3 or 4 weight in whatever length you prefer to use.
  20. I do a lift quick and reel, not a hard hookset just a quick lift. Seems to work for me. Wondering though, if what you were doing worked for you why change?
  21. Thanks for the info, never actually heard of Jennings Randolph. Just completely for forgot the Yough.
  22. Hooksets are free, if you feel a bite, think you feel a bite or anything different set the hook. Yes sometime it will be grass or rocks but you will learn the difference over time while hooking more fish.
  23. It is just a little overfilled, take off some like and soak in KVD L&L. Flouro is the best choice for the tactics you described. I have 15 rods with Abrazx or Invizx flouro, one with copoly for topwater and 2 with braid for frogs/toads. Managing it is no bigger issue than any other line if you do it right.
  24. The other electric only places you can have an a gas motor just cannot start it.
  25. The only places allowing gas motors in md are deep creek, conowingo, and the potomac. And electric only does not allow big motors to put boat on trailer. But honestly its not that hard, just line it up, get some momentum and lift the electric motor right before the trailer. Helps sometimes to back the trailer in a little deeper.
