This is all personal preference but i prefer straight flouro. Not a big fan of braids lack of slack line sensitivity, the density of flouro provides better slack line bite detection. Fishing heavy cover i generally dont go below 17lb, mostly fish 20lb. Anytime i do fish braid, except frogging, I use a leader. Its debatable whether seeing braid makes the fish bite shy but for slower presentations i am not taking the chance.

It wasn't open, I only live about 15 minutes from there. Had some time to waste so just stopped by to take a look and walk around for a few minutes. It should open up March 1st, there was no ice or anything to keep it closed.

I took a look today, didn't see any ice. The area around the boat ramp is rather muddy but clears up pretty quick towards main lake.

Nothing is fool proof, and the OP was referring to skimming which the chip will stop. Anything to make it harder to duplicate will help. Its due to environment, guys out fishing during the spawn have no effect on grass which is the main issue. Something is killing the grass fields, if you look at old Google Earth images and compare it to current grass fields it will shock and repulse you. The health of the bass will rise and fall as the grass does. However, I have still not seen much being down to determine why the grass died.

Not everything in life is dollars and cents, sometimes an "investment" is in yourself and your loved ones. Time spent outdoors with friends and family is worth more than money. If it is within your budget and you actually use it go for it.

Leave in the morning for 3 days on a heated water lake. Can't wait to feel the tap tap and pull of a fish on.

Been doing well on swimbaits using the Sworming Hornet underspin heads the last couple years. Only issue is they are expensive, anyone know of a better price range underspin which they have had luck with?

Each year I pick a different bait to try, this year I picked up some Duo Realis 90 spybaits. Been reading up on them and watching some video's, a lot say to keep line on the light side around 6 to 8 pound. But the 90 is 1/2oz and there is some information noting you can move to baitcast gear with 12lb test. Does anyone have any experience with the 90 and tried different test line?

The 50 will work just fine, no need to go out and buy more line if you don't really need to.

Get the biggest one within your budget, the extra power will come in handy on windy days. And being able to move using a lower percentage of power will help make batteries last longer and not wear out the motor as fast.

x3 on the cheap mono to learn. You will appreciate it as you cut off a couple spools worth during the process. One thing you can do is pull off a little over a good cast distance and put a piece of tape across the remaining line. That way the backlashes will only go that deep. Will help save some line also. Otherwise, practice, practice, practice, then repeat.
