  1. One thing to keep in mind if you fish anywhere there can get some wave/wake action. Being up front while running you will get beat up pretty good.
  2. Try a local club first, get a chance to learn what goes on instead of jumping straight to the bigger ones. Each club is different but the one I am in a 16 year old can join and be a boater.
  3. After dealing with the process of buying a house of the last two months we closed yesterday. After all of the grief and annoyance the actually closing went off very smoothly. Now begins the process of moving all of stuff and getting the horses moved. This is the first time in my wife's life she has had a place where she could have her horses with her. Instead of being in a townhouse with people everywhere I can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning on a front porch.
  4. Both are quality knots, use what you are comfortable with and can tie consistently.
  5. Good legal shine is available in a lot of areas now. My personal favorite is Belmont Farms Virginia Lightening.
  6. Check if its legal first...
  7. Whatever baits you have confidence in that matches an appropriate pattern for the time of year and conditions.
  8. A team tourney is okay every now and then but part of what tourney fishing is for me is pitting my skills against others in a little competition. A team removes that by making it about another persons skill also. Much prefer a co vs co, boater vs boater tourney.
  9. Depends on the boater, I have fished with some who do not want the co speaking up, to ones who specifically ask their co to speak up with they have some ideas. You should have some idea of their personality from spending some time in the boat with them, if they seem like they would be open about it ask if its ok to make suggestions. Offer them kindly if the answer is yes, if they say no just keep fishing.
  10. Nice_Bass, we actually just got the "conditional approval" from the underwriter. They are only asking for 4 more things, all pretty easy. Hopefully this will be it, and we do not close until the 29th so should be in pretty good shape. Our closing was pushed out because the sellers asked for extra time to get the house/barn packed up and the horses moved. It helped us too so we agreed.
  11. Moving out of Germantown to just outside Frederick.
  12. Thanks, I have not bought a house since 1999 and things have changed a lot. Will be going from a small townhouse in the middle of way to many people, to a custom cape cod on 6 acres with a 3 stall horse barn with very few people around. Cannot wait to sit on the porch in the morning with a cup of coffee and listen to nothing....
  13. Getting a mortgage is a painful ordeal, every time I turn around they need more paperwork. Will be glad when this is all done. It will be all worth it but the process is crazy.
  14. I was using a Baby Torpedo...
  15. Got out on the Susky around Harrisburg PA yesterday, got to love smallies on topwater.... smallie
  16. You did nothing wrong, it happens. Most likely the hook hit a blood vessel that runs down the tongue.
  17. Am I the only one wondering why this thread continues?
  18. I am with ec1....blade baits are strictly colder water for me. Can't get anything at all once it hits that mid-50's mark.
  19. True, never did see him hit the areas on the back side. I was surprised to see it held up for 4 days, well actually 5 because there was apparently another tourney Wednesday night which was won from the same area.
  20. Just my normal heads up... My club is doing a tourney at Black Hills this Saturday, will be 20 boats, so first thing in the morning and 3pm will be rather busy at the ramp.
  21. Logan S. is his marshall for the day...sure that is going to be a fun day.
  22. Keep an eye out for the Elite's, their tourney started today.
  23. Well no lure is "necessary", however will you be able to cover more scenerio's while on the water, yes.
  24. To clarify, by "binding" do you mean you are unable to turn the handle at all. Or you turn the handle and it spins but the spool does not spin? If its the handle does not spin it sounds like it just the using of heavier line with the drag tightened down it will be harder to turn not by an issue but just because you are trying to turn against a higher weight. If its the handle spins but not the spool, either the drag is not tight enough or the braid spinning on the spool. Did you use backing when you spooled the braid?
  25. Awesome...hopefully soon I can post the same thing. We put an offer on a new place. Would go from a townhouse to 6 acres in the country with the barn/fields for our horses. And plenty of room for a boat!!
