  1. As with anything else there is no "best", way to many variables and personal preference involved. Need way more info on its use, budget, nearby dealer support......
  2. Upper Potomac is smallmouth area. Upper reaches of the canal has good largemouth.
  3. That area is usually not that low even in winter, used to be a good area for me anytime it was not solid. Haven't been there in a couple years though. Most likely a draw down to work on the lock.
  4. I just find it interesting the Blue and Flathead catfish are also invasive on the lower Potomac but do not get a second thought by anyone.
  5. Debatable how much impact they have had on the lower Potomac.
  6. Follow the manual for the specific motor, it does not matter what other opinions people have or articles you read. Only the information from the manufacture matters.
  7. If its the same as the Ranger RT188 (almost the same boat) it is allowed a 4in jack plate, the Talon would void warranty if they could show the Talon caused the hull issue. They are not pad hulls. With the Evinrude the oil reservoir is put into one of the storage boxes in the back so you lose some storage area. The Mercury 115hp 2 stroke has it on the front of the motor.
  8. in regards to weight be careful figuring it out. dry hull weight is literally just the hull, no motor wiring, batteries or anything at all.
  9. Honest answer, I wouldn't do it unless it was a small aluminum. It will pull it just fine unless you are on a big hill, but braking will be a concern as will wear and tear on tranny. High winds could become an issue also.
  10. Just ordered mine last week. Everything I have read looks great, chatted with a few guys with it and they all love it. Gives you the information you need for a good price and its only a 10 minute install. No running wires, just remove terminator from Smartgauge plug, put terminator on one end of the VesselView Mobile wire and other end into the Smartgauge plug. Find a place to tuck the wires away and either zip tie or velcro the unit in place.
  11. no need for a story, truth always works just fine.
  12. It is just a partial tear, just a matter of giving it time to heal. Did get about 7 inches of snow from the storm but seems my wife enjoys the plow on the atv. Everything is already cleared, i never had to limp outside.
  13. well A-Jay that explains why I like smallies.... I don't think it matters, if your boat is above them they are not going to see much more than a silhouette.
  14. Bunnielab...if I find you I will tie you up, take you to some other state and tie you to a tree in the middle of nowheres.....
  15. I can move it and not spending to much time sitting around. Just have to wear the hinge brace when out and about. The biggest issues are steps and uneven surfaces. Trying to run the trolling motor or adjusting all the time to a moving surface in waves is a big no no.
  16. Someone spilled water on the floor at my work, and did not clean it up. I stepped around what I saw but stepped in other water, foot went right knee went left. After a ton of swelling and barely being able to walk I got diagnosed with a partially torn MCL. No surgery is required but will be out of commission for 3 weeks to let it heal. Have to wear a hinged knee brace during this period. Could have been worse, happy there will be no surgery.
  17. Ummmmmm...what?
  18. Back from Black Hills, water temps range 41 to 47 degrees, water has some color to it but not bad. Ended up getting some bass on jerkbait, jig, tube, and shakeyhead. Decent day for the water temp and weather.
  19. Almost spring, pretty soon the bobber trees will bloom.
  20. Anyone running Mercury's Vessel View Mobile? Interested to hear some reviews.
  21. I would like to see some new places, make them work out tough conditions. As for tidal Potomac or Chesapeake, that will not happen with the anti-tourney rules coming up.
  22. Under no circumstances should you be on the ramp with anything more to do than unhook front strap at launch or hooking it to pull out.
  23. I am hoping to get to Little Seneca (Black Hills) this Sunday. Air temps keep going down in the forecast, not doing it when its mid-20's. If I go I will post when I return. I have not heard from anyone who has been there yet.
  24. Get ready someplace out of the way, when in line for the ramp or on ramp only have the front strap to unhook so you do not take to long. Emergency brake anytime the truck is in Park, 4x4 only when necessary to pull out. They tend not to back up well when in 4x4. And if its a long dock and your by yourself put the boat away from the ramp so others can use the ramp while the truck is being parked. Once you do it a few times you will get into a routine.
  25. I have wondering what the non-pierce clips do to blook flow in the area they are attached. It would seem the area would go an extended period without proper blood flow causing an issue. But have no seen any research on that so its just an assumption on my part.
