  1. Im in the same boat... when I was about 15 I wanted to get into bass fishing, but had no idea how. Who do I credit for helping me? Jimmy Houston and Hank Parker. I watched their shows and read every bass fishing magazine I could get my hands on. Check around ebay and places and pick up back issues of Bassmaster and bassin and you will learn tons.. This season, concetrate on the senko/ fat ika fishing advice above. If you can master those this season, you won't run out of fish to catch, guaranteed.
  2. Strangely enough, I have several of those lures in a tacklebox here with a bunch of old tackle I have (yeah, collecting old tackle gets you through the winter months of cabin fever) I may just have to tie them on and give them a shot (if bass season ever opens here, ok so it opens this saturday)
  3. Same here, I thow darker, shad like colors until the cows come home. It is rare they don't produce.
  4. I usually just bring my MH spinning rod with 8lb line. It limits the size of baits I can throw, but can fish almost any application. If Im fihsing close to the truck, I always keep two or three rods loaded. But if Im walking, I load my fishing vest with all of my favorites and pack the trusty spinning rod.
  5. I'd do love fishing the Greenbrier, doesn't get much better than that. I waded two miles of River one day near Alderson and me and my buddy caught 70+ smallies between us. It was unbelieveable.
  6. Agreed. I have caught more fish than I can count on the original floater and the J-7. They always swim true.
  7. Im Trielene XT XL only.. don't trust anything else.
  8. I was reading this somewhere, don't remember where now, but someone (a pro Im sure) said they give the hook a slight twist to it is barely out of line and gets a better hookset? Anyone else ever heard of this? Sorry, can't sight a source on it, can't remember where I read it, but it was recent.
  9. That is a crazy idea.. I hope it isn't true....
  10. I have a bait called a helgy or something Im going to try... But has anyone else found any good artificial hellgrammite baits?? I'd like to find some soft plastic one, and I think I have seen a hard one from rebel once upon a time... I just imagine they would be great for fishing the rivers here in Canada for smallies... we used to fish the live ones growing up in West Virginia and they were great... bass love... er uh... hate them... haha. Thanks!
  11. Tie a rope on the end of a rake... sling it out as far as you can and make some holes in the cabbage... then come back and fish those holes... Sounds crazy, but it has worked in the past, I have even read there are some tourney fisherman that do this from their boat. Rake a couple of trails in the veg in the morning, come back and fish it in the afternoon... Weird tactics for weird fish....
  12. I like to stop and go with it. With tubes texas rigged, I like to let them fall to the bottom, rip them back to the top and let them fall again. I find a lot of bass hitting them on the fall. When you feel a little bit of resistance, SET THE HOOK! But like everyone else said... once you learn to fish the Texas rig, it is a go to set up. Honestly, in the time of the time I spend bass fishing, I bet 80% of it is spent with a texas rigged tube or senko. They catch fish if you can find them almost all of the time.
  13. I think Hank Parker was the one who really got me hooked on Bass Fishing. Bill Dance is #2 on my list and then I really like the Denny Brauer too. Which one is the fish kisser? Jimmy Houston or Roland Martin? I think it is Jimmy. I like Roland Martins show, but he is sometimes fishing for sail fish in the caribbean or something, so its not as good. Either way, I dont really get them here in Canada like I did when I lived in the US, so that sucks.
  14. I assume it is a day of fishing that they smash into 22 minutes of tv program. Im sure a whole day of fishing produces 22 minutes of fish for most.
  15. lake okeechobee for me. I think all of those fishing shows I used to watch probably influence that.
