  1. I use spincast for panfish and a baitcast for catfish. I've yet to figure out the proper way to lay a spinning reel on the ground and keep the line tight at the same time on a spincast it's much easier. I use a cheap baitcaster for the catfish so they don't hurt the weaker spincast reels. If you're going to be bream fishing get a micro spincast reel. Zebco makes the best. You'll think you have a 7lb bass on the line when you catch a fish . Goodluck, -Taylor
  2. This is how I do it: I hold the reel with my left hand and with my first two fingers on my left hand I slighty press the line towards the rod. With my right hand I flip the bail. I cast and when I'm ready I let go of the line and the bait will fly. Practice, Practice, Practice. Goodluck, -Taylor
  3. What do you guys think of invisible line like Berkley Vanish? I currently use 12 lb Spiderwire EZ mono and love it. Though I've noticed I get more hits when I'm using the 15 lb clear white shakesphere line. I am a little worried the blue might be spooking the fish, so I've considered switching to the Berkley Vanish. Considering a spool a 12 lb test is almost 20$ I'd like to know what you guys think about it before I buy it. Thank You, -Taylor
  4. I bought a new Ambassadeur 6000 / Berkley Lightning Rod combo from walmart earlier today. I took it to my neighbors pond and tried it out. It works excellent. It throws very far, reels in perfectly and had no issues when I caught a small 1lb bass. The only problem that I had with the reel is the drag is kind of hard to set. When I changed from worm to spinnerbait I changed the drag and it's hard to turn the little knob on the side. Is this a serious issue (any reason I should exchange it?) If so this would be the third time and I'm getting tired of exchaning the same reel. 1st time the handle was bent. 2nd time it was in a car accident and something happened to it (wally world doesn't know about it though) Do you think some oil would loosen it up? Thank You, -Taylor
  5. I really liked the Curado but I've decided to find a little bit of a cheaper reel. Right now I'm looking at the Revo SC it's 130. I have 200$ I'm willing to spend I'd like to find a reel at 130$ or less. I've decided to get a little bit cheaper reel and have enough to get the Ambassador/Rod combo at walmart for 70$. I've owned one of them in the past and they're really good reels + it's a round reel and I'm use to it. Do you guys have any suggestions on a reel I can buy that's 130$ or under. -Taylor
  6. I just noticed on Cabela's they have a Revo SC I was wondering what's different from it and the S, SX and STX? I noticed it has 2 less bearings is that all? It also says Cabela's exclusive I was wondering does that mean they cheapened up the quality or just subtracted the bearings? Because I've heard at wal-mart they lower the quality of the reel so they can lower the price I'm scared to spend that kind of money on a cheapened version of the real thing. -Taylor
  7. Thanks guys. You've all been extremely helpful, but I have one more question. The Revo STX has three different models: -STX -STX-L -STX-HS I know the last is high speed but what are the other two? What does the L mean? -Taylor
  8. I've been fishing at my neighbors pond. We havn't been getting much rain lately so the water level of the pond has dropped quite a bit. This has caused me some serious issues. When the water level dropped it revealed alot of stumps and limbs in the water and I've been getting hung up on them quite a bit. Most of the time it latches on so well that I end up having to break the line. Other times I can just reel the limb in . My question is how can I avoid snagging the limbs and when I do snag one; what's the best way to get off the limb and save my lure at the same time. The good news is I've been using plastic worms so I'm not loosing a really important part of my equipment but when you start loosing more than one or two a day and loosing as much lead and hooks as I've lost it adds up really quickly. -Taylor P.S.: I havn't been bass fishing long so most of this is new to me. (Caught well over my share of bream though .)
  9. I've been considering buying the Abu Garcia Revo STX-HS. The one with the 7.1 gear ratio. It's priced at $199.99. I havn't been bass fishing long but I've had a bass rig for a while. I've been using a round shaksphere with 1 ball bearing and a 3.8 gear ratio. I figure it's time to move up a notch. My questions are: 1.) Is the Revo STX-HS a good reel for the money? 2.) Is there a better reel I can buy instead for the same price or less? 3.) I've always used a round reel never used a low-profile reel, are the low profiles just as durable as the round? 4.) What kind of rod should I look for, for this reel? Thank You, -Taylor
