  1. This is a awesome clear water bait. In my experience, the further the cast the better chances of landing a fish. Our local lake is so clear you can see 20ft easy, the Sebile Magic Swimmer on 10lb Fluoro is the best combination to load the boat quick! They will hit this whether they are feeding or not simply because of the great action.
  2. The Paca Craws are big fish baits period! You can fish them on Jig Heads in deep or shallow water. You can fish them t-rigged in creek mouths and catch nice keepers. The best way to fish a Paca Craw in my opinion is to fish it T-rigged flipping\pitching into tops and structure in deep and shallow water. I have caught numerous 6lb+ fish on this rig. The best time to throw this is pre-spawn and spawn. If you fish it in open river water, it works just about year round.
  3. We have tournament coming up and I have found a new slough I've been wanting to fish. I've fished it once with no luck. I was throwing a White Spinnerbait with Tandem Blades (Gold Willow & Silver Colorado). I also thew a frog near some grass and didn't get a strike. This was a pond before the Lock & Dam was put in place and the river was flooded. After the flood, they owners broke the dam so the river would feed it. There has been big bass caught from it. The water averages 6-7ft and has cypress trees along the bank. The mouth and a little ways in the slough has grass but once you get past the old dam it's just cypress trees and underwater tops and such. My question is, what is the best thing(s) to throw in here for big bass?
  4. I talked to the guy who won the tourney and he caught all of his fish on a top water frog in grass where the shad were. I couldn't find any grass with shad, I could only catch the 3-4lb largemouth from the grass with no shad. I caught them all on a frog and spinnerbait, none on a buzzbait. I guess I'll wait until the water warms a bit more. Quick question, do you guys think color really matter when fishing buzzbaits? I primarily throw Black/Black or Chart/White and sometimes a Silver Shad (Silver/Grey/White). I use the Cavitron and the Culprit buzzbaits.
  5. Since this is such a big rod made for very long casting and deep cranking I was thinking of another Lews BB-1NG simply because of it's cranking ability and smooth casting. To anyone who has a Revo Winch, how does it work for really long casting and deep cranking? With this rod, I want a reel that can throw DD22's, Bomber #7's and Mann's 20+ crankbaits. I would like to keep it under $150
  6. Well, I finally got lucky and won a rod at our last tourney. It's a Quantum Tour KVD 7'10" MH Cranking Rod "TKVD7106M". I have three Lews BB-1NG I use on the BPS Crankin' Sticks and I love those but what reel would you guys suggest on this big rod? I've considered the new Abu Garcia Revo WINCH and another Lews BB-1NG. Suggestions?
  7. The water temp is warming to the mid 60's and the weather has been good the past few weeks. It's the end of April, some of the bigger bass are coming off beds and some are still on beds. My question is, when to start throwing the buzzbait early? Is there a set water temp before the topwater bite is best? I've been throwing a buzzbait with no success however I've been throwing a topwater frog in grass and tearing them up. What's wrong with the buzzbait? Not time yet?
  8. Hey guys, I have a question I can't make my mind on. Which rod would you use for deep water jigging? Normally I fish football heads and finesse jigs in 15-30ft of water. Berkley Lightning Rod, 7ft Medium/Heavy Rod or a BPS Bionic Blade 7ft Medium Casting Rod. Also, any other suggestions would be nice. I like buying new rods every once and a while.
  9. What do you set your Surface Clarity and Noise Rejection to? You don't use Auto Sens, right?
  10. Do you guys use Auto Sensitivity or manually set yours? Also, what do you set your grayscale settings on? How do they get their screen to display such a image in the sample I posted initially? :-/
  11. I'm fishing a few new lakes this coming year and I need this 520 to show me the bottom very well so I can get an idea of how to fish it. I've been playing with settings trying to get the best picture but can't get anywhere close to the image I posted. Whether I am sitting still drifting or zooming down the river this unit displays the same. The bottom barely is a line; it's nothing like in the image above. I have a X135 on the bow networked with the 520 and it does the same thing, can't get the image too look good. I want to be able to see the bottom, the drop offs and the fish arches but can't get these units to work properly. I'm about 1 or 2 more trips away from trying out a Hummingbird. :\
  12. I have a question for all of the more knowledgeable anglers with Sonar equipment. I have read all my books on this unit and I can't seem to get the sonar options set properly. My question is, what is your setup configuration on your sonar settings? Noise Reduction Level? Surface Clarity Level? Do you use Grayscale or FishReveal? Grayline Setting? Do you use "Auto Sensitivity or manually set yours? I'm just trying to get an idea of what needs to be where and what everyone uses. I've tried several different ways but can't get it to do what I'm looking for. Just for an example of what I would like to sonar screen to look like. I'm trying to get it to show this while I'm running but I can't for some reason.
  13. I have been all over that website, the information I'm looking for I want to come from actual owners.
  14. Hey guys, I am about to purchase the Navionics HotMaps SD card from our local dealer however I have a few questions. First, what is the difference in the HotMaps Premium and HotMap Platinum? Which is the best? I looked at the available lakes and the HotMap Premium only had my lakes so I will get this one. Does the HotMap Platinum include the 3D lake view and satellite imagery? Also, I would like some feedback and comments on you that have it already.
  15. Well, I haven't had a chance to take my new boat out yet but I do have some waterspots on my Lowrance 520C screen and wanted to know what you guys clean your screens with. Is it ok to use Windex? I've heard never to use it so I was curious, I don't want to mess up this $650 unit. If Windex is bad, what do you guys use?
