  1. try a fluke with a tiny bit of weight 1-1/5 foot above the lure to keep it under.
  2. i go fishing everyday and most of the time it's just me and my two poles. of course some friendly competition with friend(s) is always fun, but hey, the chance to hook up with miss bucketmouth keeps me focused on the fights. then again you ever notice that alot of people say they like to go fishing, but don't for whatever reasons. as for me, i go everyday cause i like to fish for bass.
  3. boy you're not kidding about the wind, i fish here in west palm area too. the good side to this ( i think), the wind is helping churn the water columm and it seems the bass are more active. don't need to tell you how low the lakes are, so i've been wading knee to thigh deep for the last two mos. the last few days the waters are considerbly cooler and more than just dinks have been hitting really hard. just my observation. does anyone else thinks so??? also, top water has been awsome the last few days.
  4. i don't know how long your leader is, but i know exactly what you mean. i use a 3-4 foot 20lb flor. for my leader. the uni to uni has worked flawless for me. as for the knot against the guide, i have learned myself to cast with the 4'+inches hanging off the guide. i'm only 5'-2" but the the time invested in getting use to casting with the leader has paid off for the wanting to use a leader in the first place. trust me its just a matter of getting used to casting with the leader. i'm a short guy and i can do it
  5. i'm new to the sport so i really don't have much knowledge about the "tech" part of it. however what i find is that the lighter and stronger the better. stronger being that you trust the manufactured rod won't break when fighting a bucketmouth in the weeds. thank jesus for christmas cause i'm interested in the american rodsmith's new rod. besides reading about it. i have no idea what this $199. rod is about. but with the combination of graphite, titanium, and carbon fiber and of course the price tag, it sounds darn good. if anyone out there has any experience or knows anything and mostly, justify the price, please let me know. thanks a 2 hundred. :-?
  6. boy what a sore subject!! i'm new to the sport, one year to be exact. so obviously i still have a couple millions things to learn. however the things i concentrate on are the things i have control of. i do alot of research on products pertaining to the sport. when it comes to knots for flor. lines i have read that the palomar was not a good choice, but the reason is controlable by you. i use 30lb power pro with 20lb. berkely flor. leader. the uni to uni has proven to be flawless with me. but i'm mad at the r&d dept. at berkely. they recommended their knot for their flor. lines. two days ago, for the third time their knot slipped on me when the set was made. it was one heck of a thump and i'm still mad. anyways went back to the palomar knot and landed a 7. 5oz that evening on top water. its not the palomar thats not a good knot. its when the line crosses on the hook's eye that causes the line to break. so just a little patience to inspect your knot and the reward could be awsome.
  7. i have only kept 1 because i was begged to. i release because i'm out there for the fight and the chance for bragging rights with my buddies. (curretnly i do have the right) my personal opinion is to each their own. down here in so. florida water is more than plentiful. (compare to vegas where i moved from) the amount of bass is incredible. for those who fillet & release in public lakes, hope they like the taste cause most of the waters i would not swim in. i do have a real big complaint when it comes to private lakes. i'm thankful and is fortunate to be allowed to fish in a few private communities. shame on the ones that take from these lakes. one, you are disrespectful and two, it only takes one >@^&%*()&^% to ruin it for everyone. hope they get a hook up their @*(%^. >
  8. i have no idea who dick is, but i do own 2 saharas and that i use almost everyday with no complaints. of course you do get what you pay for. the reel that i use everyday is the symetry 2500 and for an extra $20.-25. the symetry is something you should take a look at. i also have the 4000 which both are great for inshore. for the money the symetry is definitely a better choice.
  9. i have had problems with the twists and still do sometimes. i find that new lines give me more problems than when it been cast a couple hondred times. i use 20-30lb braid and i find that the braids gives me much less twists. the up side if there is, i have become an expert at removing bird's nests. a little patience will save you alot of money on lines. :
  10. the way i do it is, after the slip knot around the spool. i put a knot 1/4 in from the slip knot tighten up the knots, wrap the line around the line clip on the spool. spool up 1/8in of the rim. the next part may not seem normal but what i do is i'll open the bail, walk the line completely out, then holding the line with a damp rag i reel the line back. guarantee no twists. because i do fish everyday after work. i walk my line out and reel it back every day. (i do this at work, because i can the damp rag not only save your skin but cleans the line as well.
  11. the choice of rods really depend on your style and choice of lures you choose. i use to own 2 ugly sticks. that was when i was using live bait. lately i've been using mostly worms, senkos to be exact and the ugly sticks gets a little heavy after a couple hours of casting. i fish everyday from the bank and cast up to 100 cast every day. not just casting but working the worm with my wrist on the ugly stick started to hurt. i now have a 6'-6" shimano clarus mh which is what i use 90% of the time. for 60. bucks its the best that i can afford right now. it's not the perfect rod of my choice ( thank jesus christmas will be here ) but the arm and wrist sores at the end of the day has decreased greatly.
  12. hi everyone, i'm new to fishing forntunately i have some friends and this forum to help ease all the aggravations of not catching. i live & fish in the west palm, fl. area and the fishing is pretty good. on the subject of private lakes, these are where my friends and me fish. like many of you, i use google earth to find holes as well. although there are only a handful of holes that are accessable. in communities that are not gated, we would drive through look for signs along the lake that people have been fishing there. generally there are. common sense tells you park legally inside somewhere. don't try to be sneaky, cause you're there to enjoy yourselves so just act normal. the resident are used to seeing people fishing in their lakes, so you're just another guy with a rod fishing. the two main things are to park legally and of course practicing catch & release. the residents sitting on their back porch can see this and so far we have not had any problems. ;)
