  3. Well I finally got a minute to post some pictures of the lures and book I have. Here they are.
  4. Does anyone remember handmade lures by Tommy Poe? He also wrote a book on live bait back in the 40's. He is my great-great uncle. I have three crankbaits and the book he wrote and will post some pictures when I can.
  5. Alright here is an elementary question.... ya'll say you use 50 lb line. Now my rod combo is rated for 10-20 lb capacity. I know the 17 lb line is comparable to 4 lb. There shouldn't be a problem putting 50 lb line on my rig should there be?
  6. New to the forum, serious fishin and not alot of time. Just wondering if there is a club in the area of KC.. I'm about 35 minutes north of KC and fish Smithville lake heavily. I also like to fish the Hartelll Conservation Ponds and a few farm ponds that I am permitted to fish on.
  7. Thanks for the welcome.. I just started heavily fishing last year and bought some decent quality fishing gear this year. When changing line next I'll try the 50 lb braid.
  8. Does anyone else use this line? I was skeptic about braid until someone recommended P-Line. Yesterday I hooked a jig on an underwater branch and thought the jig was gone forever. I pulled the line figuring it would break but I heard a series of breaks. Needless to say the wood broke and my jig came flying out. I think I'm going with P-Line 14 Lb. braid from now on.
  9. I bought the Rick Clunn baitcaster combo from Bass Pro a couple of weeks ago. This combo is $150. I have the 7 ft medium/heavy crankbait rod and the 7.1:1 speed reel filled with P-Line 14 Lb. braid. I love this set up.
  10. I bought a decent baitcaster a couple of weeks ago and finally got to fish from the shore with it yesterday. I really didn't have any problems casting side armed. I know its up to the individual whether or not it would work but I definitely suggest this technique.
  11. I'm gonna get the Rick Clunn signature rod and reel combo from Bass Pro its about $150. I've heard nothing but good things about this set up.
  12. Hey everyone I just bought a baitcaster rod and reel. I am brand new to this type of reel and am having NO luck. Is there a trick to casting without getting a bad nest with this reel? Is there a good online source for these reels? I'm sure there is something that I am missing. Some feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Howdy everyone new to the site. Has anyone had any luck at Smithville lately? Gonna go tomorrow. I went to the catch and release ponds up here in Lathrop (Hartell Conservation Area) last Saturday and didn't catch a thing. Must have been because of the storms coming in. Catch you all on the flip side.
