  1. If I'm with friends or family, then talking is great. It's probably one of the reason I will never tournament fish or join a club. I do not like forced conversation while fishing with someone I barely know. It seems kind of anti-social but I do enjoy people who I connect with well. My wife is always introducing me to her friend's husbands/boyfriends to take out fishing. Why do I want to be on the water with artsy fartsy type or the 40 year old guy who still dresses like a 17 year old gang member?
  2. I'm 15 miles from the start of the Cape and been saltwater fishing the area for 20 years. If you have any questions just ask.
  3. Check out the Lew's Speedspool SS1S 5:4-1 $89
  4. Anytime a cranking rod is brought up the first thing that come to mind is Lamiglas. Their blanks by design tend to be more moderate than other companies. If you buy a moderate Lami rod you better believe this thing will be moderate almost borderline slow. These actions tend to let the crank bait work at close to their best.
  5. For the most part I start hot summer days the same. Before sunrise till about 30min after I'll thrown various topwaters. Then i begin to throw fat ikas and other plastics to shallow cover Then I start working jigs and cranks when sun is high Then I'll drag a carolina rig in deep water when I'm hot and starting to lose concentration
  6. It seems like a decent starter combo but it appears that the reel is not very durable. I'm one of those guys who believe that while you can buy a good inexpensive spinning reel, you can not do that with a baitcaster. Check your local Dick's Sporting Goods and see if they have any Shimano Citicas left for $50
  7. I personally like the look and feel of eva but I will most definitely be using cork as soon as I make space for a lathe. I am looking forward to making some rods with cork and have a few guys who want rods with cork for next spring.
  8. Next to Tackle Warehouse, Northern Bass is one of my favorites and has great service.
  9. I have no hook preference and use Eagle Claw, Gamakatsu and Owner and have yet to have a problem with any of them.
  10. I am a believer now. I have seen the light. I finally tried out my Citica and Curado and they are both awesome. I own Abu Revo SX's and Lew's and both Shimanos feel much more solid. The sound they make when the spool is spinning after a cast is almost musical.
  11. I have been making saltwater rods for almost 20 years(36 years old), specifically offshore tuna rods. Since I've taken up bass fishing a few years ago I didn't want to put any effort into studying the nuances of freshwater rods. I figured if I can save money and still use top materials then it's all good. So here's my first crack at it. I am looking to build a series for my boat and have ordered some MHX blanks to the builds. This rod will be used for a heavy jig and carolina rod and is balanced to a Abu Revo Toro Winch. Blank: All-Star BAST846C 12-25lb 3/8-1oz Sorry for the grainy iphone pics. Guides: Fuji ICLNSG 10-8-7- ICLSG 6-6-6-6-6-6 @ concept spacing Seat: Fuji ACS16 trigger
  12. go to your local Dick's Sporting Goods and ask an associate to scan the price on the Curados and Citicas then proceed to save money.
  13. Gratz. It appears to be in really good shape. I just noticed you also got a 40hp because that 9.9 looks awful small on that rig.
  14. awesome, thanks for the review. I will come back to this when making a decision on a new rod.
  15. My Airrus co-matrix rod. I might be the only guy on here who owns one but it's my go to rod for a lot applications. My 2005 30hp 4stroke Merc EFI that has not had one single problem in 6 years of use. Just normal maintenance.
  16. I still have my Mitchell Copperhead combo from like 18 years ago. At the time I felt I had a great combo that gave me confidence and all for $39. My 6 year old uses it today and loves it. I don't post that much because I am a more diehard saltwater fisherman and any knowledge of freshwater I leave to those who know more. One of the reasons I do enjoy reading this site is it seems to be a hell of a lot less corrupted by internet arrogance than other hobbyist forums. We should try and keep it that way. For many people a hobby shouldnt be like a crack addict chasing a better high. Not everyone needs the best of the best of the best to enjoy themselves.
  17. As of right now, my fishing partner and I are in and will help supply some grub. The only thing that would stop me is if I'm offered overtime from work. I can't turn down money.
  18. Early fall with warm days and cool mornings I fish topwaters early then cranks/jigs later Late fall with cold mornings and cool days I fish jerkbaits/jigs/cranks/soft plastic grubs/ fast swim jigs
  19. I love early morning fishing. There is nothing like getting to a lake/pond before the sun. Plus it helps to beat the tourney guys there and join a 15 boat conga line. Your grainy pic says it all to me. A fun time before sun up
  20. what about that non-slip vinyl boat flooring? It comes in plenty of colors and all you have to do is stretch a piece nice and tight around the wood then staple it and cut off any excess.
  21. Shimano sells their products for the same price no matter how big the chain is or how much they buy, except places like bass pro, dicks and cabelas skip the middle man and buy direct from Shimano. If Big Rock Sports(wholesaler) sells the Curado 200E7 for $110 to small tackle shops, you can take roughly 20% off that price and that's what direct buyers pay from Shimano. Dick's is probably selling these at a slight loss but when you make 200-500% on underarmour and nike clothing it's easy to handle that.
  22. yeah thanks for the heads up. I went back and sure enough the Curado200E7 was 74.95 and the citica was 49.95 so I bought one of each. I got the last Curado and they had 2 left hand citicas left and one right hand.
  23. I visited a couple of DSG's near Cape Cod Mass and they had plenty of reels but all at full price
  24. it was one of the first things i tried and could hear my floor cracking and the post didnt move at all I swear Zeus himself couldnt move this thing
  25. I decided just to remove the whole flooring on my boat. I am actually very happy I did. It allowed me to clean all the accumulated crud and wet vac the pockets of water around the insulation and to see the condition of the wood. I just ordered a new Swivl-eze base from iboats and can't believe I waited all these months to do this
