  1. Are you surprised that it's a jet skier? :
  2. I installed my fishfinder a few weeks ago and it seems to be working fine. The problem I feel is when the ff goes over thermalcline areas. The depth reading starts going erratic and begins to mark dozens of fish. Is this normal? It always happen in the same parts of the lake/pond so I'm guessing something is going on below. Assuming those are fish below me, they seem impossible to catch--cranks/hard jerks/carolina rigs and ect.
  3. When I was primary a shore fisherman, I had a 8.5ft Steelhead blank (St. Croix 2C86MF2 ) custom made into a long casting shore rod for fishing larger lakes and reservoirs. It works great!!
  4. I just installed my new Humminbird 565 8-) First off, I just want to let anyone who thinks it's tough that it's not. I'm the type who feels incompetent when doing anything electrical. I found out that my local boat mechanic hurt his back and couldn't do the install for about a month. So I went ahead and did it my self. It took only 2 hours after making sure I had all the materials I needed. Now to my question. Should the transducer have accurate depth readings on dry land? With the boat on the trailer, it sits about 24inches off the ground but I'm getting a 6.7ft reading off the unit. Everything else seems to work great, accurate temp and so on. Aaron
  5. I have a 2005 Princecraft 16ft Starfish w/ 30hp 4stroke. I fish freshwater and saltwater rivers and bays.
  6. Make sure to check out the Shimano Crucial rods. I was very impressed when I finally got to handle one.
  7. Are you using any sort of weight?
  8. Hey guys..I've been interested in throwing some tubes into heavy cover and looking for weedless rigging ideas, specifically t-rigged tubes. I'd like to know what hooks go with say larger 4-5" tubes. Aaron
  9. Love seeing the pics of boats
  10. You say you caught three bass?!...My approach since i'm learning is to analyze why I caught every bass, structure, bait, time of day. I continually try those same techniques over and over until they don't work then figure out why after they don't. It sounds boring but after a while it becomes second nature.
  11. It would probably smell great in there on a 90degree day
  12. Lookin at my insurance policy, I don't see any coverage to the motor
  13. Last week struck a rock. I tested the prop shaft with no prop on and seemed to run smooth with no abnormal vibration. I purchased new prop and installed it this morning. When spinning the prop by hand it seems to get tight in one spot. Anyone have this problem before, if so was the prop shaft bent? Thanks Aaron
  14. We should have just pooled our money together and bought a private lake!! ;D
  15. I would think some Zoom super flukes and trick worms.
  16. Ok..I know we tend to over analyze with the thought of $$ flying away. ;D Just some more observations, I see. With the motor tilted all the way up and turned off, the throttle will not go back to neutral or reverse from foward. I don't know if that's normal. Now with motor tilted down i have to spin the prop shaft slowly until the throttle catches then I can work the throttle normally. There appears to be no metal shavings or pieces in the prop shaft area and the prop shaft seems to run smooth and straight with the throttle in neutral. This all done by hand with the motor off. Just two questions now. 1) Since I bought a spare prop, can I run the motor with ear muffs connected delivering water and put the motor in gear without any damage to see if the prop is running straight? 2) Now the dumb question, does the thick metal washer behind the prop sit flat side against the prop or facing the transom? Stupid me didn't pay attention to which way it came off. Incompitence at its finest
  17. If you can take a clear picture of the butt section..I promise you I will go by there(1.5 miles from my house) and get a quote for you. If you're satisfied I'll give you the phone number and you can give them a call. Just take into cosideration the shipping costs to and from and also they do alot of custom stuff and usually fall 4-6 weeks behind even for minor work. Low Budget Hookers has said that he has rods made there before and should know about their low labor rates. The name of the company is CMS Enterprise in New Bedford, Mass. I just found the receipt from them for a bass rod I had made last year when I was shore fishing. They made me a Batson ISB841 blank with 8 Fuji SVSG Sic guides, Fuji DPSD 16 reel seat, 9" rear cork, 3" fore cork with a fancy diamond wrap for $215.00
  18. I have a map of a local pond that I started fishing and marking rocks. I must have missed one :-[. Well anyways, my prop is totally destroyed yet the skeg was barely touched. The major problem is when i turn the prop by hand there is a clicking sound behind it and the throttle won't go back to neutral or reverse..kinda weird. So I'm figuring there is more damage done then appears. Any ideas?
  19. I wouldn't touch it for 3 times that labor price. A local custom rod manufacturer that does sub-contract work for Lamiglas and All-Star would charge about that plus parts. I guess it just depends on what you think your time is worth.
  20. If the situation drives you nuts you're better off going all the way. Replace the seat with a new one. Depending on the rod handle, it might be a job that could be done from rear end. A good rod builder should charge you for parts $5-7 for a standard Fuji seat and about $7-10 for a rear cork piece and about $15 labor. It's a small price to pay for a rod you love.
  21. Hey guys..ever since I got the fever a couple of months ago and as I learn more I've been spending more. I just logged off BPS with a total of $378.58 on all tackle. No rods..no reels. I have the shakes right now waiting for my package to come in next week.
  22. I'm still stocking the tacklebox and trying to get some goodies for the spinnerbaits. Anyone use them? If so what brands and styles? Aaron
