  1. It's been a long 2 years since I took up freshwater fishing and I've slowly built my arsenal of rods. I refused to be a fanboy so I purchased rods from multiple manufacturers...I have Dobyns, All-Star, St Croix, Airrus and a Rogue custom. So last but not least I ordered my 7'8" Carrot Stix Gold(here tomorrow) that I will be using for swimbaits but I'm having a problem finding a suitable bc reel with a slower retrieve. I would prefer a low profile reel in the 5.8-1 gear ratio or less. I will be filling the reel with 55lb Daiwa Samurai braid Any suggestions?
  2. Chauncy is one of my favorite places. You will be okay in a jon in anything less then 20mph. For such a small lake it will get very choppy in a stiff wind. Fish along the west shore all the way to the north/northwest shore..there are some nice drops for jigs and some shallow areas where topwaters work great. It's one of my most productive topwater lake.
  3. Every year I try to add a new pond/lake to fish and since my buddy moved a few miles from here I wanted to get some info on this place. I see it's pretty shallow so i was wondering if there is anything i should be worried about. I'm running a 16ft deep-v with a 30hp. thanks
  4. About 40% of the shoreline at Lake Chauncy can be fished.
  5. I totally agree. I fished there once and will never go again. It made me feel dirty ;D Try Lake Chauncy in Westboro..nice and small with healthy bass. Boat ramp can be tricky though.
  6. I fish a lot of clear smallie lakes so I use chart/white with either single or double gold or chart willow leaf blades.
  7. I use Aftcote on my rods because of the long work time. With that being said, it needs to spin for 5+ hours to make sure it doesn't sag.
  8. I keep a pair of waders in the boat and just put them on when it's time to load. I jump in the water and guide the boat on then winch it the last few feet. Then again my boat is aluminum and light. I have nothing against power loading but some the lakes I fish have tourneys and after watching 12-20 boats all power-load in under 15min cant be to healthy for the ramp.
  9. I bought a v-hull boat two years ago and have been having the hardest time keeping water from puddling and snow from building up and collapsing it. I've tried every single pole/support gimmick from basspro/cabelas and and been through 2 sub $130 covers. I'm afraid to invest in an expensive cover thinking it may not work either. So, I'm looking for ideas in keeping the cover up. A house down the street from me has a v-hull and his cover is always collapsed(lol). This is my exact boat from manfc. website
  10. I have the 565 and has worked great for 2 seasons. The only problem I have with it is it seems to run wacky over thermocline areas.
  11. That really sucks. I live outside a really lousy neighborhood and I wake up every morning expecting my boat or something out of it to be stolen. Three years ago I purchased a Coleman crawdad from someone with a new trolling motor. I borrowed a buddies pick-up and brought the boat to my father's house for temporary storage. It was out of sight in his driveway around back still in the bed of the pick-up. We went to Boat U.S. to get some accessories and when we got back the boat was stolen. All this happened in the same day after spending $700 on the boat. They stole the d**n thing right out of the pick-up. :'(
  12. Hey If you ever get a daytime tourney goin let me know. Ive been a 99% saltwater guy all my life so beating me in freshwater should be easy
  13. I have been using frogs lately and noticed that alot of the times they flip over on their back and even sometimes do 360's in the water. This includes hollow Spro frogs and Ragetail frogs rigged weightless. It's become annoying and makes me lose confidence in the lure. FWIW, I use an Airrus 457 7' med/heavy rod with an Abu Revo SX spooled with 15lb Seaguar invis-x line
  14. Hey My in-laws live in Shrewsbury and I fish there a half dozen times a year. Are you a boater or shore fisherman? Try Lake Chauncy in Westboro you'll have access to fish either from shore or from a boat there. If you have a small jon boat you can try A-1 site(stump pond) in Westboro. Good luck!!
  15. You can still buy Shikari at http://www.versitex.com/versitex/home.html
  16. I am a huuuuuuge fan of topwater fishing and sometimes do it when the conditions don't really call for it. I just came across an article on this line and want to know if any of you guys have yet to use it. The concept seems pretty good.
  17. I just got my Airrus casting rod today from UPS. It's the Co-Matrix 457 casting series. Now, I know a little bit about rod building and parts used on rods. According to write up on their website the rod was touted has having Fuji hardaloy and when I got it..it seemed to have some imported tich guides that look like the guides you see on $29 rods sometimes. I checked the major guide makers to see if they had anything close. I'm just ranting a little but I wish they'd make their rods according to their write up. I'm contemplating sending it back and just getting a Dobyns but paying $20 more makes the whole deal kinda a loss.
  18. I actually just canceled my ASR order from Cabelas. The order has been pushed all the way to May 15th now from April 2nd. I just went ahead and ordered fro Airrus Rods.
  19. Was the package damaged at all where the guide was crushed/broken? Contact TW and tell them the product was broken right out of the box. They may send you a return authorization and try to get their money from the shipping company. I had a $250 broken trolling motor from Bass Pro right out of the box and they sent me a replacement next day air and a return tag with it to send back the broken one. I'm assuming TW has friendly return/replace policy with all the good things I hear about them.
  20. You have to use registered mail for rebates...cost $10 but insures you get $40 in return
  21. Hey guys.. I just purchased an Abu Garcia Revo SX from Cabela's paired with an All-Star ASR casting rod and got a $50 rebate bringing the total for the combo to $209.99 not including shipping. 99.99 normal for rod and 159.99 normal for reel. Im sure you guys keep up with this stuff
  22. It's all about personal priorities. You gotta ask yourself: Do I want a very nice bass boat and a capable tow vehicle or a very nice vehicle and no bass boat? Most guys here I assume will take so-so vehicle and boat.
  23. Check into the Subaru Forester...2400lb towing and very reliable.
