  1. I took this advice and did some research on these techniques. Ive never fished a lipless before, and never was a fan of crank baits but turns out, I was fishing them wrong. I went and bought some lipless cranks, and mid depth crank baits and I can't wait to get out and try both of these techniques. They don't sell buzzbaits around here for some reason, never seen one in store so I might have to make a tackle warehouse order for one of those to give it a try but I appreciate your feedback man. Thanks again
  2. This is a great thought. This might be a good thing on days I'm just fishing from the bank where as the water shallows, you need to get the bait closer to the surface to avoid hang ups. I'm sure every set up has its advantages and disadvantages and we all just kind of have to play into what works the best in our bodies of water and the equipment we have available at the time
  3. Thanks a lot for your replies, I know preference plays pretty heavy into setups and how you fish them. I think slowing down will take some getting used to for me but it's nice to know where the strengths and weaknesses on an 8:1 reel lie. I don't tend to burn my bait back to the boat but this may slow me down a bit more. When the water is warm, sometimes they prefer a faster moving bait as well. I'll stick with the setup I have for now. If I end up not liking the reel on this rod i can replace it on this rod and throw the reel on a different rod meant for a different technique. I'm assuming I'll be able to adjust my fishing style to what the rod needs, though and I'll be very happy with it in the end
  4. Hey guys So I've got a new casting set up, it's my first mid range rod and reel and I have a few questions for you guys on whether or not you think it will work the way I'm hoping. I tried to post this several times in another thread, but I'm brand new here so my messages need to be approved by a mod. It makes it impossible for me to participate in my own conversation bc by the time my messages post, the chat has made it to the next page. So in an attempt to buy a rod that would excel at throwing chatterbaits, the setup I ended up with is: 7'2 MH Moderate Fast Fibreglass Shimano Poison Adrena Daiwa Tatula SV @ 8.1:1 I was intending to buy a 7.3:1 reel and didn't realize until yesterday when I took it out of the box that the ratio was higher. I'm wondering if you guys think this rod will work well as a chatterbait rod? I'm still pretty new to fishing, just a couple of years in so I still have a lot to learn and fishing season is a few months away so I can't just go fish the set up and see. Essentially what I'm asking is, is the rod tip too slow? Is the reel a bit too fast? What else would you guys throw on this setup, if anything? Thank you in advance to anyone who replies to this question
  5. Just wanted to push this post to the top of the list as I have a question I was hoping to have answered in here and where I'm new my posts need to be approved by a mod so all of my posts are delayed by an hour or more and will be getting skipped over I'd also welcome a recommendation on line choice for this set up, with my choice lure primarily being chatterbait and likely a little damiki rig/fluke experimentation to be expected
  6. Love this way of thinking Especially the last 2 sentences
  7. 😅 I think the worst part about it is, the rod and reel combo aren't even top end.. it gets way better than what I bought so it's not even worth getting jealous of really Mid range gear, but a big step in the right direction I think
  8. I'm assuming you want to see the rod and reel and not my actual tacklebox. It's definitely not the craziest rod in the world, but a massive step up from my 6' Medium Fast Ugly Stick Elite w/ abu garcia black max (which I still love for most things) Rod is a 7'2 MH Moderate fast action Fiberglass Shimano Poison Adrena Casting rod The reel is a DAIWA Tatula SV 8.1:1 which I've just realized when taking it out of the box, isn't what I intended to order. I wanted a 7.3:1 so I might have to send it back and get a lower gear ratio I'd welcome any of your opinions if you'd care to share your expertise on why this may or may not be the rod I want it to be for chatterbait fishing. I'm worried the tip may be a little too slow, and now very concerned that my reel may be too fast. I did my best research into the technique and this was the combo I came up with, and purchased based on the boxing day sales that were available to me Also apparently my pictures file sizes are too big to upload.. even 1 photo is over the limit 🤔
  9. My first thought when I looked at the specs were soft jerk baits or 3/8 oz chatters but you could throw almost anything on that if you wanted to. Probably make a nice damiki rig or senko rod
  10. I agree with this, I bought the rod for me, not other people and certainly not in an attempt to make anyone jealous. I was just surprised when the few guys I know that sport fish met me with the "that expensive gear won't make you a better fisherman" type of attitude. And its not like I needed the nice rod, I can catch fish. I just wanted a rod tailored to the types of bait I plan to throw this season. I would be happy to talk with someone about anything they were passionate about and at least pretend to share their enthusiasm or try and extract some information about something they've committed themselves to learning. That's the human experience in my eyes, when someone knows more than you about something.. shut up and listen if you can.. you might just learn something. And yes as a response to other people I did immediately see this as jealousy but with a kind of "gear shaming" attitude attached to it. Which was shocking to me. At least there are people here that share my interest, I'm thankful for that
  11. I just bought my first nice setup, and I don't think I've ever been so excited to wet a line. I live on the east coast of Canada, so our fishing season is over in spring (aside from ice fishing if you're set up for that, which I'm not) Anyways, I just got my gear in the mail, and everyone I talk about my new setup to seems to be hating on the fact that I spent some money on it. Has anyone else experienced this? I just want to be able to be proud of what I bought and not have someone throw it in my face that they can catch as many fish on their $80 ugly stick combo. It took a lot or research, and I put a lot of thought into the combo before I bought it and I'm just getting **** on for it
