  1. How big are the fish in your area? I use 15# Invisix for 5” and 20# for 6” Senkos. That way I can fish grass or wood or open water. They’re fished on Kistler 7’6” ZBones. 3LMH open water or 5H around cover for the 5/6 inch baits. I don’t have to worry when I hook a 7-10 pounder.
  2. I live in first city south of Austin (It’s in Hays County, not Travis County, has about 15,000 people, so it’s less expensive and has a Cabelas in town). There are 15 to 17 lakes within 2 hours. Plus you can get to all the major famous lakes in east, north, or south Texas in about 5 hours or so. It is really centrally located for fishing. I moved here from Murray, UT almost 14 years ago. Let me know if you need more information. Housing, business, schools, etc. I’d be happy to help. Plus, I’ll introduce you to the best fishing spots.
  3. I love Kistlers. American made. Sensitive and strong.
  4. Kistler makes a rod called Feel N Reel. After trying one, I bought 4 more of varying lengths and actions. My favorite is 7’2” medium heavy. They look different but are designed for baits with treble hooks. But, I use it for chatterbaits and swim jigs too. With moving baits, the rod tip needs to give a little so the bass can inhale the bait. (Hence, guys use glass rods, which can be a little heavy.) But you need backbone to set the hook. And, the softer tip keeps the fish hooked up during the fight.
  5. Ebay and Facebook lately
  6. I’ve bought a half dozen Daiwa reels or so from them. I especially like the JDM options they offer. All have arrived quickly considering they’re shipping from Florida. I’ve made 4 separate transactions using the recent 20 and 15 % eBay coupons. Their discount prices minus the additional eBay coupons have made the reels very reasonably priced.
  7. There’s 400 tournaments a year on Sam Rayburn. It’s inexpensive to live around the Rayburn / Toledo Bend area if you don’t care about having waterfront property.
  8. Mine came in but I haven’t used it yet. So far, it doesn’t feel as smooth as I would have expected just turning the handle on an empty spool. I’m a big fan of Daiwa but maybe I’m spoiled from using my Steez. I bought the lower gear ratio to put on my crankbait rod. lets see how it fishes before passing final judgement
  9. I know they’re just coming out, but has anyone bought one or tried one yet? I’m about to order one, but haven’t seen one in person.
  10. I had a bunch of Browning Boron rods. I wish I had kept them.

  12. There are several option in the Kistler line as you found and has been mentioned. The Helium 3 is one great rod. http://www.kistlerrods.com/store/fishing-rods/helium-3-fishing-rods/medium-light/helium-3-medium-light-7-0-fast-fishing-rod.html#.WrhIT1pOmf0
  13. Grew up outside a small town in NE Wisconsin. Lived in suburbs or cities since I was 18. (Funny, my first class on the first day of college had more people than my whole High School) Just bought a small parcel of land in the country for my retirement house next year.
  14. I have full confidence in ebay. I have a 100% rating, buying and selling.
  15. Last year they were hot. $15-20 ea. Now I’m seeing most at the old retail price, so the hot sales market cooled off. i bought a lifetime supply when they were discontinued because they work so well on a couple of area lakes.
  16. New Ultrex, 4 new Kistler Rods. New GoreTex bibs. Geez, that adds up in a hurry.
  17. Good reels that don’t receive proper respect.
  18. It’s still a great rod. I traded some of mine and wish I had them back.
  19. I’m turning 65 in 2 months. Will continue Club tournaments until I retire when I’ll have time for PRE-fishing and practice. I hope to fish team events with my son, but he’s a CPA so spring and fall are his busy times.
  20. I do have to say, I’ve lived in 3 other states. I like Texas a lot. I’m not leaving when I retire in 2 years. I love the heat, BTW. We got 4” of snow last week. The whole area shut down. It does get cold, but doesn’t last long. But the heat lasts 3 months. but the bass here like the heat too.
  21. Don’t come to Texas. Everybody else already has. I live near Austin, but not in it. The city/county is not for me, but once you’re away from that county, you’ll find it nice. (Unless you’re in to partying, then Austin is good) I rarely go into Austin. Very crowded and horrendous traffic. if you like variety of fishing spots for big bass, I’m within 5 hour drive in any direction to some great destinations. Amistad, Falcon, Fork, Rayburn, Toledo Bend, etc. 17 other Lakes within 2 hours. Any cast can equal a 10 pounder. Anytime of the year.
  22. 100 % Kistlers. I started to upgrade about 2008-9. Now, I have all the action, lengths, etc. I need. Added four more last week so I’m up to 56 Kistlers total. (I share with my adult sons) I really like the Feel-N-Reel series for moving baits. It’s trap season in Texas now that it’s gotten colder. I have 8 different rods just for traps. But if you use bottom contact rods a lot get at least one Zbone, you’ll love it.
  23. If Kistler is in the mix, you could go all out with the custom Zbone. Add a balancing kit. I have a couple of custom ZBones with select components. But there’s no discount on those.
  24. 10” Powerworm (4 out of 5 best) Strike King 6XD (#2 best) two over 10 pounds, the others almost 10
  25. I got email from Monster Tackle. Some items up to 50% off. Various offers now through Cyber Monday
