  1. I don't know about cleaning the vents. I guess it won't hurt.
  2. Those are the fuel vents. As you fill the tank, air comes out the vents. And yes, sometimes filling the tanks is problematic with several brands of boats. I look at the slope of the pavement by the pump and try to have the slope going away frm the nozzle. Sometimes, you can turn nozzle upside down and don't put it all the way in the fill hose. These tricks let more air vent out better.
  3. I had a '93 model 201 and I loved it. I wish I hadn't sold it. But I two boats at the same time and the 201 was easier to sell.
  4. If you are going to save up, get a Kistler Z-bone.
  5. My college roommate was engaged to her roommate. They set us up on a blind date. It took me several months to convince her she was the one for me and to dump the other guy she was dating. That was 37 years ago.
  6. We southern folks are not immune to the bait monkey, but we're fishing and losing stuff already so we have to restock. Texas BASS Nation state championship in 2 weeks. Gotta be ready for 6 days fishing. Plus I need OB oil, at least 4 gallons. Cash register is cha-chinging. OH, and the Mexico fishing license. Gas, lodging, etc. I'll blow my whole play money budget this month. I'd better win some back so I can go to Fork two weeks later.
  7. Maybe he needs more material, but he is a nice guy and works very hard. It's like the commentator on pro sports. Lots of study of anglers bios, etc.
  8. I have to stop reading posts about tackle sales. 150.00 in flukes this week, 100.00 in Senkos last week. Huddleston swim baits the week before that. And this is a slow month. Good news, I'm going to put them all to good use in a few hours. It's time for a big one, 80 degrees Friday and again Saturday. Time to get moving and load the boat.
  9. @basseditor
  10. I stored some late 70s Browning Boron rods, but I think of pulling them out. I have rods from the early 80s from Browning and Fenwick and custom rods made from Lamiglass blanks.
  11. I'm near Austin Texas. No property taxes on vehicles or boats. Registration is about 65-70/yr. My house is $4400/yr in property tax. 2200 sq. feet. 6 year old house. No state income tax. Sales tax is 8.25 %. Cost of living is reasonable. 4.5% unemployment rate. Lots of jobs right now but home prices are going to climb. So many people coming here. 5 hours north to Fork, 4-5 south to Amistad and Falcon, 6-7 hours east to Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend. 3-4 hours southeast to the Gulf Coast. And 17 other lakes in two hour radius. Several of which produce 10 pounders regularly. Five bass, 43 pound limit was first place in a 125 boat field Saturday at Lake Austin.
  12. I haven't caught any on deep diving Livingstons, but I have taken some real good ones on the floating stick bait. I was in a derby last November and my partner hung up behind us so when I turned the boat around, I left the lure sitting out there. All of a sudden I felt a hit. Landed a 7 pounder. So I fished it dead sticked from then on. With the sound and light, the bass came to it. I quit using it on that trip when the hooks bent. So if you get some, change out the hooks.
  13. Texas is as big as 5-6 states combined. No matter the time of year you can fish somewhere. But many lakes are suffering from drought. It goes in cycles. There are enough lakes that the variety is great. You never know when the next hook set could be 10lb.
  14. I guess mine is boring. I've been in the magazine business for a long time. Many positions have some type of editor in the title. I'm into bass fishing. It helps that I was the first editor at the magazine BassWest when it launched in the 90s.
  15. Good story. I'm a BYU grad.
  16. I have different reel brands for different rod actions. All my Lew's have 15# flouro, all STX have 20# flouro, all Pfluegers have 25# flouro. All braid is 65# etc. easy for even an old timer like me to remember
  17. Sorry on delayed response. Contrary to my wife's opinion I don't spend 24/7 on my iPad. Pflueger Patriarch gives you more precise adjustments. You need to be able to fine tune reels with every adjustment possible when casting light baits in windy conditions. Otherwise it doesn't matter all that much. I do like faster gear ratios for most applications so that determines what I'll buy from now on.
  18. Tubes or 3" grub sixteenth or eight ounce weight
  19. I have 1, 2, 4 and 5. Plus I have various Lews. Each one is dialed for a specific use on different rods. I use the Lews Team Golds for lighter baits and the others for mid to heavy baits. I like the Lews that's why they are used on the lighter baits. It took me several trips to get the STX dialed in. I bought my sons Tatula Rs as gifts. I might get some for myself. I have 10 Academy Mettles too. I'm surprised how much I like and use them.
  20. Is it a team event where your weights are combined or individual score? Strategy is different for one or the other. When I fished team/combined weight events, I fished for big fish and my partner used finesse tactics to fill the limit. We were very successful that way.
  21. They fish like typical smallmouth lakes. Traps, crank baits, etc at times and drop shot at other times. Top water occasionally. From my experience. Colors do vary because the forage is different at times. Try 3" grubs too. Smoke with copper flake.
  22. 5" Senko 6" Senko Super fluke Magnum fluke 10" PowerWorm No particular order
  23. I thought I solved the fishing in the cold dilemma by moving to Texas. Not true this year. This was last week. Not big bass of our club tournament but grouped with several like this, good for the win. The worst thing for me is my feet. I tried a thin layer of moisture wicking socks covered by heavy wool socks and sandals. It was the first time I did that and it was perfect. If it was colder, I would have worn three pair of layered socks.
  24. Texas riggged and wacky rigged. Either one. No weight if you have the patience. I won club tourney Saturday on a weightless Senko. Throw it next to a target and let fall. When it hits bottom, very carefully pull on the line — if anything feels funny or weird set the hook. Raely do I feel a "bite" but they are just there.
