  1. I just got a Tatula TW 100 XHL. Should I oil it before using? Is there anything I should do to it before using it? It’s my first bait casting reel.
  2. I just got an Argon rod from Kistler. If you sign up for their emails. You get % off. I think it is something like 15% off. As for the Helium. Yall might want to check the Kistler website. I think they have them on sale. Plus the % off.
  3. I went with Tatula TW 100 left hand. I think it is a decent price and good reel. Thanks for all yall help. Much appreciated.
  4. I’m thinking of a 4-5” senko watermelon. I am thinking 30-40 lb 832 probably hi viz. cause I am old and have a time picking up what the line is doing.
  5. I looked at some JDM reels. At least price wise. I could not find reel specs. Can anyone tell me or point me to specs on a Tatula TW 100? Like what braking system? Line capacity? Gear ratio? Thanks for any help you can provide.
  6. Ok. Stupid question of the decade. bare with me as I have not had my coffee yet. All my fishing has been done with spinning rigs. I get with casting rod setups. The rod is turned and reel sits on top. Being Right handed. The rod is in my right hand. The reel handle is on the left. Does that mean I need to get a left hand reel? “ let the comments begin “
  7. I’m looking a getting a Diawa Tatula CT. I was looking at Diawa website last night. Did I read right, the CR has 2 braking systems? A magnetic and another braking system. I don’t know if centrifugal or what. Maybe I misread it, wishful thinking. I have seen some talking about swapping the spools. Using a SV spool. What exactly does that do or don’t do? Lastly. I saw there’s a Tatula CT R type. How does that differ from the non R type CT? Is it better, worse, eh, or marketing between the two reels? Thanks in advance
  8. I wanna thank everyone for their comments and recommendations on my posts. Pardon all the questions, second guessing, overthinking I finally pulled the trigger. I ordered a Kistler Argon MH fast. They have a good deal on them now. Plus they give another 15% off if you sign up for their emails. Now to get a reel. Diawa Tatula CT. It seems like a good reel. From what I’ve seen so far. Plus it is good price point.
  9. I’m looking at a couple of casting rods. A Dobyns KD713C or Cashion Element EW7 MHF. I found the Dobyns on sale. Both rods are like 5 dollars difference in price. I’m looking to use the rod with a unweighted/ weighted Texas rig. Using a 4-5” senko. I’ll be bank fishing mainly rivers maybe some lakes. Any recommendations on which rod might be better fit for the mentioned use?
  10. My thinking. Who cares what someone else thinks or says. Did they pay for your rig? If you want to spend a little or a lot more money to get what you want. Go for it. You work for it. Spend it how you see fit. Enjoy the new rig. Well.. enjoy it when it warms up. lol.
  11. I subscribe to the old term.. KISS. Keep it simple stoop Many times the old ways are the best ways. Less things to go wrong. As for if reels will reach a point. I think they will get to a point. That the changes will be minute. If any real change mechanically. Then it’s up to the marketing department to sell the “ new and improved “ They will probably come up with a new marketing phrase. The Grand Poohbah braking system is a totally new concept. That will revolutionize the fishing industry. When in actuality it is the same old with a new spin on the name. Are we at that point yet? I don’t know. There may yet be new materials to use. But is it going to make it all that much better?
  12. If I can chime in. You’re looking for Torx bits. If you live near a Harbor Freight. They have bit sets with the driver for under 10. That should get you by.
  13. Isn’t TFO owned/ operated by Loomis himself? I thought Shimano bought Loomis company awhile ago. I’d expect TFO to have Loomis influence.
  14. I don’t know if you would be interested. Mega bass Orochi is on sale at ALF. It’s under the Cyber Monday tab. Like 100 bucks off. Might be worth a look if there’s a rod for you there.
  15. Does acetone or brake cleaner effect sealed bearings?
  16. If I can chime in. There’s not a backlash proof reel. The reel braking system can possibly lessen the chances/ frequency of a backlash. You can increase the braking while getting used to the reel. Then as you get more time on using the reel. You can lessen the braking. As for the difference between US and JDM. I don’t think the JDM’ are covered under warranty in the states. I think if you have a warranty issue. You have to send it back to the seller and they can forward it to warranty service in Japan. That or bite the bullet and pay for the work in the States.
  17. I saw a question about reel maintenance and the common mistakes people make doing maintenance. I didn’t want to hijack that thread. So…. For yall that do your own reel maintenance. What do you use to clean bearings? What do you use to clean the rest of the reel? I come from a more firearms background. You might be amazed at what some people use to clean and lube firearms. There was people that competed in handgun competitions. They said to use brake cleaner and motor oil. To clean and lube it. I’m f I remember correctly. Pretty sure I do. One well known optics manufacturer used to say to clean the lenses with acetone. I’m wondering what y’all use for reel maintenance? Tia
  18. AFL has the Black Friday sale going on. Mega Bass Orochi rods are 100 bucks off. That’s a good deal in my book. I am liking the specs on Daiwa CT reels. For 150 I think it is a good deal. You mentioned that you want a higher end reel. You might want to look into Daiwa SV series.
  19. You can always send it into DVT. Have him go through everything, order parts if needed, upgrade things inside. I think he does a bearing upgrade to corrosion resistant bearings. Something to consider.
  20. If you’re checking sales. You might want to check out Sportsman’s warehouse. They have a good sale going on right now. You might be able to find a higher end rod around the price you’re looking at.
  21. I know Amazon has JDM reels. I don’t know if they have JDM rods. At least the return policy is good.
  22. I was looking at their rods little while ago. I didn’t really like the colors I saw. I figured it was not a big deal to repaint the rod. Just scuff up the paint on the rod. Prime it then put whatever color you want on it. Heck even put a color changing paint on if you want
  23. Thanks for explaining that. Makes more sense now. The Falcon LowRiders I am looking at the Weightless worm and All Around Fast. To confuse things even more. lol. For a little more money. There’s the Shimano Intenza A. The 2 I’m looking at there. A 6’10 MH XF and a 7’2 MH F.
  24. I’m looking at the LowRider series of rods. I don’t see understand what they mean by power 4,5,6. I’m used to seeing M/F or MH/ F. How do the LowRider rods compare in flex to other rods? Like do the fast run true or does it run more x fast, or? tia
  25. I did some quick Polish math. 5” Senko 10 grams. 1/8 oz weight- 3.54 grams. I couldn’t find the weight of EWG hook. I’m thinking a rod rated up to 5/8 oz would be good to go.
