  1. On a kayak, an 8 hour shift is good. If I'm fishing from the bank 2-5 hours depending if I get hot or bug bitten. Fishing the same angles that produce nothing can get tiresome. Beach shore fishing I can go all day even if I'm striking out completely.
  2. That's a good idea. I have braid all the way. What is generally best practice? About 8lb mono? Like you said I'm not totally convinced it was the line although fairly sure. It still could be the washers as you stated, but it appears to be working normally after I pulled the line out and rewound it.
  3. I think that was the issue. Yes braided line. All the gears looked good and the with the spool out, I took one of the gears and was able to spin the spool. If I held onto the outer edge of the spool I couldn't turn it, but when I held it from the center (the line) it would spin easily. My best guess is that half of the line wasn't wound tight.
  4. I purchased this baitcaster last season. I've used it maybe 15 times, and last weekend I went fishing with no issues. I picked it up today and was going to put a new hook on the line when I noticed I could freely pull the line from the reel with no resistance. I tried to reel back in the line that was pulling away and nothing happened. The line did not retrieve. I set the drag, brake, and tension knob fully tight and it didn't make a difference. I watched a video of a guy with a similar issue, and all he did was tighten the drag fully, then all the way loose and somehow it popped back in gear. This was not my case. I'm going to be taking it apart and was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to look for once it's disassembled. Thanks
  5. I took my brother in law kayak fishing yesterday. I lent him a 7ft Lews speed stick that he somehow snapped the tip off of, and an Ugly Stick Gx2 7ft medium fast action with a Penn Persuit reel IV series. Somehow that got sent overboard into the lake. I get a text message from him that he's out of the water and leaving to get something to eat. Trying to make amends before I even heard the news, he goes out and buys me a replacement for the Lews and then purchases a 7ft Gx2 medium heavy rod. The Gx2 was my snakehead and light inshore rod, and now I have no idea where a medium heavy rod will even play a role in my fishing life. What are you guys using a 7ft medium heavy rod for?
  6. Hi everyone. I'm from Maryland, and currently as of today not that great of an angler. I joined because I wanted to start my journey to become the world champion record holder. I am confident everyone here will have the knowledge to get me there. Looking forward to soaking in some knowledge. My interests are kayak fishing and surf fishing Cheers, fatfish
