  1. Thanks guys, great info as always. @GetFishorDieTryin I will absolutely be trying the Zoom as a trailer as well!
  2. Hello Gents, Perusing TW and reloading on Jig stuff. I tend to get dragged into the rabbit hole which is YouTube Jig fishing, and I decided to try a couple packs of the River2Sea D Walker to pair up with my Dirty Jigs California swim jigs in accordance to the recommendations of TacticalBassin. Dunno how I'll feel about them, but I figure it's worth a shot. Outside of this experimental purchase on my part, I'm really just kinda thinking I'll pair the Dirty Jigs with a 4.75" Rage Swimmer. I know the Rage topic is discussed at length, so I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, but I don't really see a lot of guys talking about these being great swim jig trailers, relatively speaking. I think these will impart a great action on the bait and I can get a larger pack for a more reasonable price point... Again, I understand that these are standard jig trailers in most guys arsenal, but they never seem to be at the top of most guys lists. Thoughts on this? Seems strange to me.
  3. The bladed jig was a hit or miss for me until fishing the Mini Max in timber on Cedar Bluff last fall. I was definitely going to order the Baby Jack but might throw some of these in as well. Big Spunk Shad guy but I'm going to order some of those Ned Bombs @Bass Rutten . Sounds like a sweet combo to me.
  4. Hey there fellas, Was wondering if anyone had some experience rigging this particular fluke? Looking for a good hook that'll fit the small profile well. I am thinking a 1/0 Gamakatsu EWG would work well, basically just a smaller version of what I use on Zoom Super Flukes, but I haven't actually tried rigging those hooks on a Baby Shad myself... Thoughts? I'll be using them like any other fluke; TX Rig, weightless, etc. Just trying to avoid getting a hook that's the wrong size here.
  5. Hey there gents, I am curious as to what sort of success everyone has had in Colorado. I have caught some hogs, the Colorado version, 3-5lbs out of Quincy Reservoir, but I have relocated and am now closer to Horsetooth and Boyd... Any thoughts? I know that Horsetooth is a big Smallmouth lake, just wondering what everyone felt about both bodies of water. I am leaning towards frequenting Boyd on my Kayak, smaller and seems to be less busy. One other question here, anyone fished Milavec? CPW has it listed as only holding Perch, among other things, but I've found old posts about Smallmouth. Any recent experiences there? Thanks all.
  6. Honestly, I've been using a lot that I bought on Amazon for cheap - like a dozen for 8 bucks. I have been debating getting the Buzbe, but that's only because I'm buying a Yakima rod holder that leaves the rods exposed. I would say that if your purpose is purely to keep lines/rods separated, you're good to go on cheap covers from Amazon. One consideration to take into account - cheap nylon covers do have the potential to scratch rods/reels.
  7. I know everyone is recommending plastics, which makes sense for Florida, but a Squarebill is tough to beat for beginners. Easy to use, generally forgiving. I'd consider that option alongside a plastic of some sort, though, plastics can be a bit much for beginners, sometimes can turn them off. They require a certain amount of patience and confidence. Let us know what works.
  8. I would look into Temple Fork Outfitters, (TFO). I have been using their rods in various configurations for all of my techniques, extremely pleased.
  9. I have been happy using Sunline Shooter in 14lb for most of these techniques outside of topwater. I'll typically use straight braid for that unless I feel the water is too clear, but that's pretty rare at this point. I've found that it typically has to do with the size of the bait more than the clarity of the line. I'm using this line on a Lew's Pro-Ti, not sure how it'll perform with other reels, but I have been incredibly happy with it.
  10. Thanks for the advice, everyone. Much appreciated!
  11. Hey all - Was wondering about net storage on kayaks. I got myself a YakAttack Folding Leverage net, I was wondering if anyone had any great solutions for storing a net so that it's accessible and out of the way. I am considering getting a new piece of track, attaching that, and using another rod holder to store it. I like the YakAttack rod holders because I can angle them low enough to be completely out of the way when casting.
  12. Fished Cedar Bluff Reservoir over the last week, decent success but nothing crazy. Caught several very nice 3-4lb Largemouth on swimbaits and chatterbaits. Underspins were successful as well. Fish were blowing up on top all over, but topwater success was limited for me.
  13. 100 percent. I fish top water as often as I can and have great success, even on hot, clear, still days. Confidence is half the battle with any technique. I toss plastics on deep weed edges and can't pay for a bite. (I don't have the confidence or patience)
  14. Great info! Looking forward to putting this to good use during my Kansas trip in October.
  15. Hey all, I am currently looking to dig further into aquatic plant identification. I believe having a better understanding of the aquatic plant life in my area would benefit me as an angler. I am in CO, but would be fine with just about any publications that include illustrations for identification help. I find myself naming every aquatic weed I see as Hydrilla, and I am aware that this is just not the case. I am planning on contacting CPW, but wanted to get input from the community as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  16. I had a little pond in MO I fished for many years, caught some nice fish outta that place. I loved the peace, the quiet, and the fact that I could frog all day and smash them. That being said, the only other person I fished that place with was my Dad, and for me, that's just as good as having the place to myself. I now find myself in CO, and if I could, I would love to find another little pond like that. I fished Wateree for years and loved it as well, caught some huge fish, but I'll always miss the solitude of that little reservoir.
  17. Hey all, Have browsed this forum for quite some time and finally decided I should create an account. Happy to join the community and continue to learn from fellow members. Grew up in SC and have been Bass fishing since I was able. Currently residing in CO and doing what I can to be successful. Glad to be a part of the forum!
  18. Thanks fellas. Had some similar concerns about my own life vest.
  19. Hey all, I ordered a few Fat Papa Walkers in size 130 from TW. For five bucks, seemed like a steal. Any of you have thoughts on these? I think they'll make a nice large-size topwater presentation.
