  1. My nephew kept naggin me so I took him and my bro-n-law back to the pond, we were able to grab two more big bass, alittle smaller than the first one. the third one slipped off the hook. guess we will have to get him next time
  2. Last night I told my 5yr old nephew that tomorrow we would have fun, well this morning he came to me and jumped on my bed waking me up to go fishing. We drove down the road about 5 minutes to a small pond next to the grocery store. I have never caught anything in it big in it or even had a bite, I just take my nephew there so he can fish for som little crapi. I decided that after he snagged a small fish I would toss it out to see if anything big bites. Im not sure how long my bobber was under the water because my nephew caught himself a fish of his own, not real sure what it is yet. But when I looked up my bobber was gone, no ripples or anything so I set the hook and pulled a nice big bass, i estimate it to be around 2-2.5lbs. Heres the link to a few pictures http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n147/swprice114/PatrickPJfish.jpg http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n147/swprice114/PJsBass.jpg http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n147/swprice114/BigBass.jpg Heres the picture of my nephews fish, any ideas? http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n147/swprice114/Patricksfish.jpg He caught it on a #10 hook with a small piece of bread, when he pulled it in I was alittle shocked at the size of it, because he caught it all on his own.
  3. Ive been to a few courses to fish. Ive heard of a few monsters being pulled out but Ive only landed a couple small bass. Im not sure of the laws for florida, but my bro-n-law just moved back from california and he said that out there the golf courses are mandated by the law to stock their water with bass to eat the misiquitos larva. I figure its the same here.
  4. Nice to see such a warm welcoming! A few days ago I picked up a pack of lizards and a few frogs. So far I have landed one small bass with the lizards from the tampa canal, and I have had two bass get away from me when using the frogs. Hopefully I can figure out the trick to land the bass with frogs, and soon. I dont really live all that close to lakeland, I live in Wesley Chapel. Its just north of tampa.
  5. The wind has been the thing that concerns me the most, I dont believe there is an actual current in the canal, but the canal does go under Fowler Ave, so the wind gets channeled under it and pushes the water pretty good at times. Ill deffinately take a look at the senko. PJ
  6. First of all, Hi. Im new to this forum although I have been looking over the rest of the website gathering up some information. I was never really a big fisher of any sort until alittle while ago when I got my new truck. Now I carry a rod and reel with me everywhere for when I go "exploring" incase I find a new place to fish. I did find a spot to go fish just down the road from where I go to school at. Its a small canal bipass. My first time out there I noticed that there were alot of fish breaking water so I threw in a top water lure and was able to snag a small bass. But now I have tried everything from my rubber worms to plugs and a a few rattle traps and nothing is biting. I started noticing all the bugs that fly around this place at night, and how the bass are striking the surface everywhere in the water, even within a few feet of where im standing on the bank. The only thing that I can think of now is to try possibly fly fishing, but I've never heard of anyone fly fishing in florida. Has anyone tried this? Im thinking about trying it once the semester is over and I have alittle more free time. My dad said I would probably look like an idiot with a fly rod at this place but I really dont care as long as I get my hands on a few bass. Thnx, PJ
