  1. What’s the heaviest trap you’d feel comfortable fishing on it?
  2. The Expride 610 m/mf is one of the most popular jerkbait rods, but I've never heard much about it for crankbaits. How would this Expride rod specifically, and some 10 or 12lb fluoro work as my main rod to throw DT6's, kvd 1.5s, 1/2oz traps, and other crankbaits 1/2oz or less? Its rated up to 3/4oz so even stuff as big as a DT10 or a 5XD would be in its range although that might be a stretch.
  3. That sounds good, I’ll try straight barbwire for my first few.
  4. So you just do the barbed wire and don’t use any of the plain colors? Sounds perfect for to go with a summer craw colored trailer. Definitely something I’ll try.
  5. Im going to buy my jigheads. The jigs that I'm going to tie skirts for are some arky and some flipping jigs. What 3 or 4 colors would you use for a green pumpkin and a craw?
  6. I'm looking to start tying some custom jig skirts. After looking on fishingskirts.com I was overwhelmed not only by all the colors, but by all of the different series of colors (barbwire, half wire, natural, etc.) What are the essential colors to pick up for tying a classic green pumpkin, and a classic brown craw pattern, as well as some variations of greens and browns? Im looking to pick up maybe 20-30 colors to start. If I'm going to tie a skirt, what ratio of solid colors to barbwire, half wire, or natural series is common practice. If I was going to make a basic green pumpkin color what series of green pumpkin should I use?
  7. Ive never made my own jig skirts and I don’t know if I want to make the full commitment to do so, but I was wondering about buying jigheads and rubber banded jig skirts separately and then wire tying the pre-made skirts on? This way I could match my favorite jigheads with my favorite colored skirts from different brands, save some money, and see if I want to make my own skirts from scratch in the future. What wire would you recommend to tie them?
  8. Congrats on that beast of a northern bass!
  9. Up here it’s different. We have a very short growing season. We typically have ice for somewhere around 6 months. The bass can’t grow much for half the year so they never get that big. The state record is under 9lbs and was caught in the south part of the state. They have a shorter growing season farther north so they get smaller.
  10. wow its hard to argue against those results!
  11. And you don’t think there will be an issue because the bass have never seen trout like those baits imitate?

  13. That’s my question, is it worth it for me to thrown big hard and soft swimbaits? Tthe biggest largemouth in the some of the lakes I fish is probably less than 6lbs. Fish over 6 are super rare up here. My bass eat bluegill, crawfish, and shinners and other small minnow for the most part. We don’t have gizzard shad or other big prey species. So is there even a point to throw big 6”+ baits if I want to target the biggest of the fish in my lakes? Will a bass that’s never seen a shad hit a 7” shad shaped glide bait? Or should I just stick to more traditional ways to target these fish?
  14. lots of times the old ones in those water bodies are small as well, they can get stunted from the lack of food.
  15. Yeah less than 10ft would freeze out every year for us I’d imagine, at least for bass. Pike on the other hand are tough, they live in some swamps and little lakes that are really shallow for as cold as it gets.
  16. I’m surprised by that. How long do your water bodies have ice on them for? Anything up here less then 15ft will almost certainly winterkill if there’s not flowing water.
  17. Same here, their videos and some others is the only bass fishing action I get from November through may. So your saying that if your not actually fishing through the grass then a slower action is nice, but if your ripping the jig through the grass then you get that “slingshot” effect with a slower tipped rod? Makes sense to me.
  18. Yeah I guess I am trying to compare apples to oranges. I’m just wondering if the action between the two blanks is similar.
  19. How does the Megabass p5 BMG compare to the Megabass Orochi XX Brallist? Apart from one being a heavy and the other being a medium heavy and the $200 price difference between them, how do they stack up against each other? From what I’ve seen both are a fast action with a bit softer tip, but is there a huge difference in the action between them? Would a BMG fish somewhat like a $500 Braillist?
  20. @softwateronly Yeah I was kind of concerned about that mod-fast being too slow for grass, I'm surprised tacticalbassin recommends it for their flipping and pitching jig rod. The Expride 7'4 looks a good bit slower than the poison adrena 7'4 from what I can tell. I also wonder about that BMG and if it will have the same problem as the Expride.
  21. yeah I also wonder how it compares to the poison adrena 7'4 regular. What do you use the 7'7 for?
  22. Im very curious about that Expride 7'4 heavy, I cant decide between that Expride or the p5 BMG for my 3/8-3/4oz pitching and short casting jig rod for something like a siebert grass jig or a dirty jigs flippin jig.
  23. That’s kind of what I want to avoid doing. I’d rather test it with my 7’4 and then but a nicer setup if I like it.
  24. Thanks everyone. I will hopefully end up buying a nice rod if I like fishing them, I just want to test it out a bit first.
