  1. If you ever get a chance, read some of Babe Winkelman's writings about the Largemouth Bass. He will discuss some of the differences in the two. But basically, they are just alike with their predatory opportunistic killing patterns... Old school basser....
  2. Guido Hibdon used a Guido Bug to catch a few big bass...I remember those days...with spinning gear, too... Old school basser...
  3. Old school basser...
  4. I think I've read Gary Klein, another Pro, said the Beetle Spin is the best bait ever made and uses them to catch bass on a tough bite. Old school basser....
  5. Steve Howe Yes -- Jerry Reed
  6. I have bought my share from BPS and have no real complaints. Bought most rods and reels when they were on sale or a year end clear out or even a discontinued model significantly discounted. Good stuff. If you're willing to look at Cablela's, they have their flagship reel (Prodigy) on sale for 79.99, normally sells for for 99.99. I own one of 'em and love it. They also have their Pro Guide IM6 rods on sale for 29.99, normally sold for 49.99. I own one of those, too. Good rod. Old school basser...
  7. Learn how to use something like a Bass Assassin and you won't be tempted by something like this again. Old school basser...
  8. My man Hank Parker made a few nickels with the spinner bait. In the morning, I start with top water. After that, it's the versatile, for those who know how to use it, spinner bait, one of the most versatile lures in your tackle box. Old school basser...
  9. Walked a neighborhood pond this evening after work and caught a nice one on a Bill Lewis Mini-Trap. She hit it right at the bank with a fast retrieve. Old school basser...
  10. Gentleman George Cochran made a lot of money and won a few Bass Master's tournaments by staying in shallow water. He always caught fish shallow all day long and I'm sure he knew the saying 95 percent of the fish are behind you if you fish shallow. Old school basser...
  11. Lived in New Orleans, La for 10 years and traveled to towns like Lafayette, La and heard the term Green Trout used for the magnificent LMB many a time. In my time in Texas, never heard the term used. Good fishin...
  12. This clip is from downtown Houston in the Galleria area which is an upscale well to do area with intense urban business activity. Makes a point. I don't like the craze of taking pictures at all. I don't do it and they go back in the water as quick as I can get them there regardless of size. Good fishin...
  13. I remember the old days when you could buy a Curado for 120.00 dollars that would last you a lifetime. Shimano seems to have said goodbye to the average joe who could swing 120.00 but not today's price...Old school basser...
  14. You might be surprised the bass fishing that is done in big urban areas...good fishing...
  15. How good are you at casting a buzz with a baitcaster? Very important. I've been on a boat with guys who could cast a buzz with a baitcaster on water that looks like a mirror with very little break in the water with the buzz retrieval if at all. A pleasure to watch someone that good. To me, colors and the particular buzz mean little if the presentation isn't right. You can get away with average casts with chop on the water sometimes but otherwise ain't gonna happen. Good fishin...
  16. I use Cajun Red line and I am on board with the results they state...
  17. Walmart's Renegade Tequila Sunrise curl tailed worm...6 inches...classic...old school basser...
  18. Heddon's Dying Flutter put some nice bass in my boat. Very nice...they no longer make it...the ones on Ebay are not what I want...Old School basser...
  19. Heddon's Tiny Torpedo is one of the finest top water baits ever made and will surprise you from time to time by getting a strike from a bass that's much more than average...I'm down South and I assure you we use 'em down here, too.
  20. Ditto. A Yankee that's got it right. I prefer bull frog. http://www.another site/article52.htm
  21. Each to his own but I use neither. Instead, my favorite is The Rattling Chug Bug by Storm. Especially, the little one at 1/4 of an once. Kills big bass.
  22. Bass Pro or Cabela's sell their in house crankbait kits that ain't all bad for like 12 bucks. Bass Pro has its baitcaster Tourney reel on sale for 39.99 with an option to get a combo with a matched rod with the reel. I prefer a lower gear ratio for crankbaits. Something like 5:3 should be ok. Bass Pro product is good for the money and it's only a start for you. Good fishing.
  23. Always, caught a nice one this morning at the break of dawn with a Tiny Torpedo. Old School basser...
  24. Lipless cranks by Cotton Cordell and Bill Lewis. Wood, brush, stumps and other cover the spinner bait leads the way.
