  1. Make sure you flush your reel very well with fresh water after your fishing trip. I learned the hard way. Old school basser...
  2. Years ago I felt the same way before I started to catch them with the mighty spinner bait. The best is 1/4 oz. in white or white/chartreuse to get strikes and hookups. Other than early in the morning, it's the first thing in my hand. Wind and windy conditions are ideal. If you don.t have that, practice with your bait caster to enter water with your spinner bait quietly is paramount. The manufacturer of the spinner bait does make a difference. But whatever floats your boat. Good fishing. Old school basser...
  3. It's official name is Horsepen Creek Park in Cypress, Tx. It's a flood retention basin, pond, lake or whatever you want to call it is no big deal to me. It's very big and you can almost walk around the entire lake from the bank. There's a dog park fenced off that keeps you from going all the way around. No boats are allowed. 8lbs. LMB have been caught. Good fishing. Old school basser...
  4. Hope those pads don't become too many...top water...ever tried to run a Zoom Trick Worm in Bubble Gum, Yellow or White over pads? Don't need a Frog. Good fishing... Old school basser...
  5. My neck of the woods, we have many retention ponds with some offering excellent bass fishing. My best: top waters at the crack of dawn, then lipless crank baits & spinner baits making lots of casts. Plastics: Zoom Trick Worm, Crème Scoundrel and Berkley Power Worm. I keep moving... too when I bank fish...good fishing. http://sciangler.com/fishing_retention_ponds.htm Old school basser...
  6. Summer: Rapala lipless crank baits It's A Humdinger Spinner Baits Skip Jack top water -- an oldie but goodie. still got a few. Spook, Jr., Zara Puppy & Little Chug Bait Baby Minus 1 & Cabela's Grave Digger Berkley Power Worm Zoom Trick Worm -- can work it all kinds of ways. Most of my Summer bassin' is done in water 10 ft. or less. Old school basser...
  7. Mann's Baby Minus 1 is the best I've ever used for ultra shallow crank baits. Cabela's Grave Digger goes to 2 ft., a little smaller but ain't far behind in fish catching. All my Baby Minus 1's are kept in separate compartment in my tackle. Never a problem. They just catch Bass. Old school basser...
  8. If you start using Tru Turn hooks, you will never have gut hooked fish or your problem. Hooks all of 'em on lip and corner of jaw. Promise. Old school basser...
  9. Right now, this time of year, I promise, Mann's Baby Minus 1. Old school basser...
  10. I live in the Bayou City, 4 million people. Office parks, apartment complexes, golf courses, residential neighborhoods, water retention ponds, utility districts releasing clean processed water into 20 acres of land, bayous all through the city with heavy traffic all around. Some of these places harbor LMB up to 8lbs. Great fishing all by foot. Good fishing. Old school basser...

  12. I formed a habit many moons ago to fish top waters at the break of dawn, slight drizzle of rain, cloudy conditions, right before a front and right before dusk. I always keep a rig ready to go usually a prop bait, Super Spook Jr. or Zara Puppy . Good fishing. Old school basser...
  13. Bought some Zorro short-armed Aggravator White single gold & Lucky Strike Rick Clunn Trickster White tandem spinner baits from Tackle Warehouse. Just gettin' started. Old school basser...
  14. We have had a longer prolonged Winter here than usual. Temps will be in the 70's to low 80's next couple of weeks. The big mama's will move and stage to spawn on their beds. I'll skip it and instead pick up my Crappie outfit and enjoy some of the finest Crappie fishing that can be found anywhere. The bite was strong yesterday with some nice slabs being caught. 15. At this juncture in my life, I rarely fish bodies of water over 300 acres. That's the way I like it. When I state Gary Klein keeps 'em on his boat, I think that covers some pretty big water. I like the Beetle Spin on occasion and thanks for the heads up on the 1/2oz size. I'll get some. Old school basser....
  16. If you fish small waters, I believe you should always have a few in your tackle box. They will catch anything. LMB will readily smack 'em. I use the 1/4ioz. Gary Klein always keeps some on his boat. Old school basser...
  17. I fished in 67 degrees weather today. Caught a 3lb & 1lb bass. the 1lb fought harder than the 3lb. Done right in the middle of a congested, but nice, area in an urban setting. Walked the bank and caught both on a Humdinger Spinner Bait, gold blades. Colorado & Indiana blades with white & chartreuse skirt. 75 degrees tomorrow & I'll be at a different location. 18. I respect private property and never fish a pond or body of water without permission. At work, meet folks find out they live in nice private communities get permission to fish no problem. Years back drove up to many a farm pond owner's home and asked permission to fish the water. Few told me to get off their property and don't come back. Most said no or yes politely. Always be neat and polite. Enough said yes to give me some of the best LMB fishing of my fishing life. Old school basser...
  19. I consider it unethical to fish for bass on their spawning beds. They are locked into their nests; they will not leave unless driven off by a larger predator (usually man or a drastic, sudden change in water temperature). A big bass is highly vulnerable while spawning. Often spawners are easily seen...and easily taken. I've seen fishermen throw heavy lines rigged with grab hooks to snag big females on their spawning beds. While most would never resort to a such a lowly method of gathering a trophy, many believe it's okay to catch bass on their beds with artificial lures or live bait. I'm a fisherman and a researcher, not a preacher. All I can say is that once you really get to know the bass, bed fishing simply becomes out of the question.
